Wise choice in the stopping short! Why risk a violation? My trucking days were 2-3 paper log books, and seldom running out of hours. How I wish I would've been Blessed with ability to run legally. Not bragging, but it was a day of 'outlaw trucking', with sometimes days and nights with no sleep, and people back in the office who never wanted to hear any excuses. I think if I could have trucked 'legally', I would have never left it. I miss trucking alot.
Regarding over night parking, I always prefer to play it safe and park where I know I can, instead of risking it. Although it is ideal to ask the customer if parking is possible nearby, often I had spent the night right in front of the gate, to ensure and early (un)load and get back on the road asap. With my current intermodal job here in Spain (Europe) though I am lucky enough to be home almost every night.
Hi Jack 1st view for me LOVED IT!! My son's a TRUCKER to he's been driving OTR for 6 months and he absolutely loves it.His favorite hwy to drive is the 64 turnpike in Virgina. He video taped it for me to see OMG!! it was AWSOME !! He plans his trips so that he's always at a SAFE SPOT when he stops for the nite .And he doesn't like to drive more than 9 hrs a day.GREAT job on the vlog I'll be watching more be SAFE AND TAKE CARE OUT THERE
New Subscriber here! Jack, Your videos are so well done, love the editing. I'm not a trucker but have found your video interesting and you certainly have shown us some of the states. Very nice and look forward to many more. Back to watching some of your older videos.. Happy Trucking Jack and be safe out there..
Hey jack...you asked the question do you play it safe on stopping...well I look at the cities and try to avoid traffic congestion times...also as you know some areas of the country trucks top parking is hard to come by after 3pm so I decide if I need a truck stop that particular night...awesome video man keep them comin.
I travel a lot so I learned to use PILOT OR FLYING J as most LOVE'S I been to were dirty and bath rooms in need of service. You stay safe and good TRUCKING.
the noise is under your seat oil or tighten it. I drove your brand of trk in 2005 that was 3 yrs old the leaf springs of the front would make a crunchy noise, new bushing couldn't be pressed in so they replace both leaf springs. I was told if they didn't replace then the spring leaf would break.
for me mr jack i would not risk it. being a new driver i worked hard to get my cdl and would not risk losing it. thanks for the video they are always full of good information. be safe out there.
Hi Jack, I just finished training at American Institute of Trucking. I start my externship soon. Hopefully I will meet you in person, You renewed my interest in driving a big rig.
Some Van Boondockers have said that when they ask the Walmart Manager, they say they do allow overnight parking. Local cops have asked WalMart to put those signs up to keep crime down.
I know now ! I am addicted to American truck stops ! Hahhahaaaa....... I have spend at least 3 hours to day just watching trucker Jack . Tomorrow I plan to drive to Johannesburg , about 375 miles from where I stay , so I guess there wouldn't be time for me to watch Indiana Jack tomorrow again (sad smile) ; but I shall catch up later in the week !
Hi Jack great video I like your song (Jack the Trucker) I like how you tell how trucking life is you have to really like living on the road, How often to you get to go home ??, Thanks regards Tom
Hi Jack, Please share with me as to how many years you have driving over the road? I really enjoy viewing your videos and your very interesting Trucker who makes good use of his time sharing with other people.Keep up the good work and God be with you...from Kamara the Trucker
Speaking as a "4-wheeler" driver i 've always been amazed at how you guy manage to thread those big tractor trailers into the tightest parking spots.I have a leaf sweeper i pull behind my garden tractor and i have a hell of a time backing up with that tiny thing, and it is only 3 feet long! lol
Believe it or not the longer the trailer the easy it is. I'm a retired truck driver from UK, using 20 30 and 40 ft trailers 240 foot so much easier to reverse then the 20 ad 30. Hard to believe but it's a fact.
you may not like to hear this but i like it better when you run into problems its funny and makes it more interesting like the squeaky door... i enjoy your videos also!
Nice spot for that Budget rental to park at the exit at the Love's in Palestine...does that happen often? Four-wheelers in the way? Thanks for the ride-along. Drive safely.
Jack, I have stopped up to two hours short just to make sure I had a safe place to park. Here on the east coast, especially, if you try to drive your clock out, you risk (as you mentioned) going into violation if the truckstops or rest areas are full. Personally, I will not sleep on a get on ramp unless it's an absolute emergency.
indianajacktrucker Yes. I remembered your advice about using a name that was more in line with what my channel was about, and I came up with Trucker 316.
indianajacktrucker What company you work for now? in other video i watched you was driving a Red Knight Transportation Truck you still with that company? Love your video logs showing video of you and the road ahead of you also showing video of behind you excellent job
In my day when you ran out of hrs you just grabbed another log book.. That is if you wanted your dispatcher to keep you moving.. Things sure have changed!!
+Robert Vandenberg Yea, I told Jack (in those days) about my co-driver nodding off after 12 hrs. (He thought he could do it) we almost jack knifed going downhill before I woke him, Thank God he hit the box breaks... so I'm thinking eh, not no more might be better. (Think I might do a tune about it sometime.) Blizzard of 78 MAN!
I enjoy your Multi videos. Can you say what you are using. I slip seat and hard to install camera. I am lucking just to hook up my Cobra dash cam. I t sure would be nice to get a back up cam. I tried a Peak and the wireless range was not enough to reach but only 30 feet. Any info would be nice. Thank You.
Great one Jack I always love your films. I like how you're just easy going. I would like ask how long you've been trucking ? Did you go to school to drive? My dad was trucker he was local and he hauled coal. He never went to school to drive but there were no schools when he started. Thanks Jack
When you have your truck running first thing am at a truck stop and go into the store, do you lock your door with a spare key? I assume you do not leave it unlocked.
Hey Jack, nice video and great job you've got there. I'd ride on ol'Red at any given time with you :) What is that great song at 3:50 though? I'd love to get my hands on that! Thanks and have a safe ride. I already subscribed :D
I like your videos and wonder how you get the camera into some of these strange possessions and how to keep the camera on the side of the truck? Also what software are you using to edit the shots?
At work I always try to drive within the perimeters of the law, cause I value my licence, respect my boss, the gear and the contract that feeds us.But on my motor cycle in my own time, well thats a different story.Your living my dream Mr Jack
The wife and I have over nighted with the rv for a number of years at the Wal-Mart in Woodland, Oregon up Untill four years ago when two people came around and informed all the rv's and semi's that we were no longer allowed to stay the night. Now,, no Wal-Marts allow overnight parking. We stay at Casinos now and one Casino in Washington State ( exit 16) used to allow semi's to park there up Untill late 2022 when I heard some rv folks grumbled and gripped because those trucks made too much noise at night. But,,, there are still some casinos that still let them semi folks park in their parking lots. So,, all is not lost.
When you were talking about that sewage treatment plant that you were passing there on the left down that dirt road, I used to have a prison, well actually it's closed down now, and would you believe right across from it is our sewage treatment plant, and boy howdee I'll tell ya right now, if the wind just blew a certain direction, the smell was totally rancid, I dont know which came first, the prison or the treatment plant, but man I really felt sorry for all of those inmates when they had Yard time, and like I said, when that wind blew the right way, if I was one of them, I wuld tell the guard, PLEASE put me back in my cell.....LOL
Get truckers path app on your phone.its free and shows you where all parking is and if kept updated by other drivers it tell you how much parking is left.i never minded staying on a on or off ramp if needed.
Sorry Jack. Off (Subject) I'm Tom from Thayer Mo. The other Day I Bought a FLD120 at auction. Been working repairing issues each day. Freightliner is only 5 miles down the road in Kansas City where I'm parked at. (I'm not a truck driver) Could you or someone help me? Where do Folks buy mattress's for their Bunks? The Truck manufacturer? Mine shows to have about 15% diesel in the stitching. lol
Hopefully the owner of that " scummy " truck stop isn't one of your subscribers or it'll be " NO soup for you " or in your case no parking for you. Ha Ha
Joe...Did you write this song or sing it? Please explain your involvement. People are really liking it. If you write more please write one about Old Red not IJ. For most of us, it's all about the trucks.
+Mike Thomas Hey Mike! Glad to see ya on "the tube". Thanks for the comment. Got a first draft of "Old Red". I wanna get the recorders rolling soon trying to free up scheduling, I'll keep ya in the loop. :)
+indianajacktrucker Jack, sorry the last comments got deleted here. I wanted to make sure people knew you got an answer. I'll have to slap hands that touch my computer. People here use my computer so I got to p/w protect it sometimes... but Just to answer you on you tube here, Originally Mike's idea of a "Jack the Trucker", Mike, Joe & I did some of the Lyric and they sent them from "across the Pond" to me. I compressed the lyric put it into the story, added some music vehicle to it. Then took it in the studio, added some trucker magic ( I hoped) and recorded it. It was a fun collaboration, Hope to do that again on Sound cloud. Hope you hear the new "Old Red" tune. Before I do a final release I just posted a remix for now. I will send you the final ... do with as you may enjoy :)
Hi Jack, would independent drivers still use paper logs?. Although your vids are some of the longest, they always seem to go bye so fast, great adventure Jack. take care

Jack you seem to be a very cautious driver, how long have you been driving truck ???
Does the rain ever get really loud and keep you awake at night?
I learned a new jargon word for slow/right lane. "Schneider lane" ;-)
Don't they have rest stops in those states where you can sleep for the night?
how does the electronic log work on your tablet is it acceptable?
Ha! Schneider lane, callin Schnieder slow ?
You were 30 miles from me when you were in Union City Tn. and I was on your way. I had 200 acres and a good meal you could have had.
