  • A short discussion with Katja Kolenc (Celje Youth Center, Slovenia) in Gent. The purpose of this interview is to delve into the role of media literacy and critical thinking within the sphere of youth work. Our guest, an experienced professional in this field, will help us understand the integration of these vital skills into youth programs. Through practical examples, they will illuminate the direct benefits these skills have had on the youth they've worked with, while also addressing the challenges they've encountered in imparting these skills.
The conversation will then turn to the future, exploring the potential shifts in the importance of media literacy and critical thinking within youth work, and how emerging trends or new technologies might shape the way these skills are taught and applied. This interview offers a comprehensive perspective on the importance of cultivating media-literate and critically thinking young individuals in a digitally-saturated world.
    Questions from the interview:
    1) Could you define what media literacy and critical thinking mean in the context of youth work, and explain how these skills are integrated into your programs?
    2) Can you share some examples of how media literacy and critical thinking skills have been beneficial to the youth you've worked with? What challenges have you encountered in teaching these skills, and how have you overcome them?
    3) Looking to the future, how do you see the importance of media literacy and critical thinking evolving in youth work? Are there any emerging trends or new technologies that might influence how these skills are taught and applied?
