I came over from Adler Farms and have been binge watching your videos. Love the channel. Glad you did a tour video . Even after watching a lot of the old videos, it put things into place and now I have a better sense of how the farm is set up . Keep up the good work !

Hey John, did I see the windows for the greenhouse back there? If so when will you get that put back up? I've been binging some playlists and thought the greenhouse was so adorable with the yellow doors and lights. 💜

The old greenhouse stayed behind at our old house. These are new windows we have been collecting, a new greenhouse is in the future ! Just trying to figure out where that should go exactly.

You should check out Whispering Willow farms. She has above ground planters that she grows not only Vegetables, but Flowers that they sell per stem at the local markets where they are. Their Farm, they bought from Jessica and Miah of Roots and Refuge Farms. That may be an option for you on your farm. .💥💯✌

New subscriber here -- hi!! okay - this is not advice or telling you. This is just sharing my experiences. I am 67 and have done a variety of things in life. Back in the 70s my husband and I bought and moved onto a lot that had been allowed to run wild for over a decade. We moved a mobile on, so housing was fine but I wanted a large garden to provide for my family as I was a stay-at-home mom - but the back of the lot had gravel, oil-stained ground, weeds, and a ton of poplar, willow and other brushes with very little soil. My backdoor neighbor (who was in her 60's at the time) had grown up in Germany and had a wonderful garden. It did look strange as it was what is now called a raised garden but back in the 70's very few people in northern Alberta had seen one and the internet did not yet exist. I figured she knew what she was talking about so I listened to her. My husband and hired a guy to blade and clear the back half of the lot. We then used a combination of scrap lumber, old railway ties, and bricks ( we scavenged everything we could to save money) to build beds about 10" to 12" deep and between 24" and 40" wide in rows over the entire back part. We rolled out tar paper on the 'paths' and covered it with gravel. Our neighbor recommended filling the bottom of the planting beds with straw to a depth of 2 or 3 inches and then filling them with good dirt and peat moss. We ran out of straw, but then I used newspaper, which was often referred to as good mulching material and since we had just moved, I had a ton of cardboard, so I figured what the heck! We lived there for 8 years and my gardens were great. The weeds and such were slowed and stalled enough so I could handle them. At 10" or more I could still use my little garden tiller and I had no issues with drainage as the raised beds did not allow swamp to build up. I imagine there is a ton of recommendations out there about this type of gardening and I know they recommend all sorts of expensive material now, but those cheap scavenged beds worked very well. The raw scrap lumber we used did start to break down about 7 years in but was easy to repair with better material. Just wanted to share my own experiences and tell you I am really enjoying getting to know you.

Loved the tour. You guys have done so much it’s rather incredible just how much you have done. It’s a shame about the flower farm. Hopefully you can sort it. Gee the emus grow fast. That’s some pretty cool looking chickens. I so miss the peacocks. It makes sense to localise all the wood and tracker and things. Another great video. Totally enjoyed it.

When you plant your flowers, make sure to cover the dirt with fabric or my parents used black plastic to help control the weeds. Then cut in some Xs and plant either the seeds or the plants themselves. You will save yourself a huge amount of time weeding. Raised beds will make it a lot easier and you won't have to try to fix the soil in that area. OMG, the black plastic my parents used would absorb the heat and we would get some of the best veggies. Tomatoes that were huge and juicy and lots of beans and watermelons that were out of this world. My dad had a waiting list each week for watermelons at the local farmer's market. They were sold out before we even arrived at the market. Our "garden" was five acres.

I watched an earlier video where you showed the garden all laid out and it looked so nice. Sorry it didn't work out this year but don't give up on it. I started gardening after I retired last year. Didn't get much but this year I adapted my approach based on what I learned and it was better. Hopefully next year will be even better. You have accomplished a lot in 1 year on your property.

I watched Chads video last night and two of the eggs you sent him he has a Brooding hen laying on them and she does not like her to mess with her. The other ones he has in the incubator, he hasn't shown them in a while. I loved the Alpaca Prince I believe you called him, he gave you that look that said hey dad I am eating here not photo's. LOL You have a wonderful set up, and I love the Emu's also. Marycarl's Nugget is just awesome too you should check him out. On Cog Hill 40. Thanks for sharing, God Bless

With that soil you would be better off doing raised gardens until you can get your soil up to par so it grows things . The raised gardens will help the bees

Another thing you can to keep animals out of your bird pens is put a chicken wire fence up for a roof . It also keeps the flying predators away. Did you know that you can get your emus sexed?
