    Nebraska is a farmer's place. Its soil is tough to beat. Glad to know about the Ogallala Aquafier. It is a blessing.

    I can only imagine how worse off we could be right now if they figured out a way to access that water back in the western expansion days. Now those were some scary people.

    The northern Great Plains is such a harsh weather environment. Everything from crazy thunderstorms, drenching rain, tornados, massive blizzards that dump feet of snow, -50 degree wind chills etc. It’s a crazy place.

      And it is where I live. I love it here. I love the crazy cloud formations that yes cause the tornadoes. I love the mind boggling amazing sunrises and sunsets. I love the rocky, sandy, and red clay soil here in the Texas panhandle. My favorite place to live. I feel like it is a gem that most people don't recognize.

    when it comes to water loss it's not important until it affects you. some yrs ago my well went dry, not just mine but several neighbors. when your water stops so does your world. turns out a rich farmer decided he needed more water for grapes. . grapes???. anyway his well was deep and ran 24/7 . in essence he sucked all our wells dry. what he did was legal but rotten. cal and other states actually require farmers to use more water than needed or loose all water rights. in 20 yrs a water war is coming and water is going to change us all forever. grapes???

      @Gavin W Most water is Salt water, and although you can convert it to freshwater, it would cost an astronomical amount of money. Freshwater only makes up about 5% of the worlds water supply, and almost all major bodies of freshwater are occupied by people. This results in the water supply becoming contaminated. Water contamination is mainly what is causing a water crisis. Also, arid regions with little water have already had conflicts over water supply. There is no short term solution to this either, so I don’t know why you think some places can get stable water supplies instantly

      @Gavin W That’s only if they can actually make a breakthrough in making it more efficient. Regardless, using desalinated and cleaned water will always cost more than drinking cleaned freshwater

      A lot of states receive plenty of wanted from rain, especially the eastern ones, if there was going to be a war it would only be in the west.

      @Gavin-zp6nkactually the opposite is true; the higher the demand, the more a price is commanded by the supplier.
      A lot of things in life used to be *free,* because there was plenty to go around and supply everyone.
      But now there’s close to *10 Billion people* on this earth, and every single one wants some of that

      @@gumbyshrimp2606 Correct. The aquifer is deepest underneath Nebraska(1,000+ ft ) and Nebraska overlies 2/3 of the aquifer.

    The ogallala has some of the best tasting water in the world. I was half raised in the oklahoma and texas panhandles and southeast colorado. I have always been disappointed with water elsewhere. Sugarland claims to have the best tasting water in the US. That is not true. Well water from Baca or Randall or Cimmarron county tastes better.

    Shouldn't the high plains experience tremendous earthquakes in the far future as the fallaron plate plunges into the mantle causing the ground to drop about a mile?

    • @deannelson9565
      @deannelson9565 10 місяців тому

      Why would the North American Plate dropped a mile from the Fallaron plate is diving under it. The earthquakes are not felt in the Prairies from where the plate boundary is on the Cascadia subduction zone it's way way to far west.
