- During our early days, we’d post a “state of the state” of ScaleTrains video each New Year’s. We’d share the major highlights from the year that was ending and give a preview of the coming year including new models. With so much happening at ScaleTrains, we’ve decided to bring back this annual tradition.

The hobby has been "dying" since I started nearly 50 years ago. I believe it's all about perspective and adapting. The hobby is healthy and we're investing heavily in the future.
In regards to fantasy units, I think the idea of GP60Ms and/or B40-8Ws in Conrail colors would be neat. They had a high-priority coast-to-coast intermodal service they operated in conjunction with the Santa Fe (the QNYLA train), and my reasoning is them doing it for marketing, pushing the idea that common equipment is being used all the way across the country to attract additional shippers. In addition, the split of Conrail may have been delayed to the mid-2000s in this scenario, enabling them to purchase equipment they may not otherwise have.
This is all great news! Scale Trains keeps the hobby exciting!
I'd love to see you guys make the Progress Rail (EMD) SD70ACe-T4 units in HO Scale!

Congratulatons Shane, on your new grandchild. The "Road Trip" promotion is way cool and demonstrates a lot of "out of the box" thinking by the Scale Trains team! I noticed there was no mention in your video of your release of the S Scale "S-Helper Service" rolling stock, so wonder if this was overlooked in your 2023 recap remarks? Hoping we will see more S Scale rolling stock and either re-issues of S Scale locomotives or possibly some new models. Best wishes for a safe and prosperous 2024 for the Scale Trains team!

Please do an N Scale run of the Rio Grande SD40T-2's. The HO models are absolutely incredible, and I know a few modelers who would buy N versions of that particular locomotive. I myself would purchase every single road number with DCC/Sound in a heartbeat. You guys are absolutely fantastic, and I hope you guys have plans in the future for N scale versions of Steam as well. Thank You for making such awesome models.

I am an O-Scale modeler. At the same time, I find it great that companies like ScaleTrains are doing well and furthering the hobby. This hobby only becomes better when companies reinvest and build great models.

I got an HO scale BNSF AC4400CW for Christmas and I'm definitely looking forward to the Iowa Interstate ES44AC locomotive coming in a few months.
I'd love to see Scale Trains do the GP9 and GP35 in Rivet Counter detail level. Offerings from other manufacturers just aren't getting it done.

BNSF is the only class 1 that doesn't have complete heritage locomotives. A Blue Great Northern, Silver Burlington and Green BN Gevo's would be fantastic. Warren Buffett could do it.

I'd love to see some c30-7s in n scale. Not many manufacturers make classic ge power, and the c39-8 is my favorite model of yours I have purchased. I would purchase a few units (especially in conrail livery;) if that ever came to the table, granted I do understand if you all have other releases planned. @@jimmyseaver3647There’s a guy on Etsy who 3D prints shells for them in both 4 and 6 variants but that’s as close as we’ve gotten to the US and Canadian ones. Bachmann has put the schemes for the Mexican ones on C40-8 carbodies but I’m not sure how accurate they are.
With detail like scaletrains we could see most of the u-boats and dash 7s. I haven’t seen any produced with the details that scaletrains puts on their models and I would definitely add one to my roster to keep things consistent. N scale SD50s in csx yn2 and ns high hood locos would also be great.

Looking forward to the new N units, love the idea of the Hypotypical, understandably its hard to produce all the add ons or changes of modern shortline and regional railroads but to maybe take a minor change or two to get the top level otherwise, I will take it. Also the idea of the so called fantasy schemes, there are plenty of those out there who do a modern what if and this could be great.
True, very true. I am glad they said they would not just paint over shells, so I hope they include road specific details, like Shawn said if ET44s had been developed earlier earlier for CSX [Y3 scheme] and BNSF [heritage 1 paint scheme].
- Heck, maybe get could consulate the heads of the railroads, to see how they would do it, so it has some sense officialness.
The fantasy/what if schemes is a fantastic idea! I also like the idea of HypoTypical locomotives as it’s like a gap between rivet counter and operator! And a big thanks on announcing those soon to be reality Steam locomotives and CSX HUs! I hope to see those in action on layouts and in real life very soon!

Tunnel Motors and ex-MTH passenger cars are returning in 2024. At this point, we have no plans for "F" units. The Genesis Highliner version is a great model. Shane

Fantasy paint schemes from Scale Trains will be well received. I could see schemes like Burlington red/white, BN's "white face", ATSF freight bonnet, SP speed letters or black widow, & Northern Pacific (several scheme options) on a future run of ES44s.
Congrats on the upcoming grandchild, you don't look old enough for grandkids but I am happy for you.

I’m hoping whatever you guys have coming up in your N-Scale announcement will be “Steam locomotive” related though I’m hoping it’s something different!! Also the freight car that you mentioned that’s never been done in N-Scale before sounds intriguing. However 1 car that would be awesome to make in N-Scale a modern day center beam flat bed car with/without loads because there’s not that many in N-Scale and lately I’m in desperate need of those for a mixed freight train I’m working on!!

How long has it been since y’all acquired Fox Valley Models for the N scale ES44AHs? Those keep getting pushed back for release. First for December 2023, January 2024, now December 2024. I really want those CSX Pride in Service locomotives.
Great news all around! You didn't mention anything about “Kit Classics.” Will you be offering any new transition era road names in these? Or restocking the existing ones? I have all 3 C&NW and MILW boxcars and love them, but many of the others (NYC, C&O) are sold out.

Unsold inventory would sell eventually. A lot of people are still buying new in box locomotives that are 10+ years old.

Yeah, in retail shops and on eBay from private collections. The manufacturers got their money 10+ years ago.
We could have upwards of $1,000,000 tied up in unsold inventory hoping someone will buy it someday or we could turn that inventory into cash to pay our operating expenses and invest in our future (i.e. new tooling, hiring more people, etc.). We prefer the latter. Shane
Your locomotives are powerful and very detailed. I have no problem with recommending to anyone. One suggestion, the ESU decoders are a pain to program especially us Apple Mac users. Again, you make some wonderful products.

Great things happening in '24. That fantastic. I would like to see more modern. Plastic pellet covered hoppers are like grain hoppers when it come to colors and types. Trinity's 6421 capacity cars are popular the most popular. Tank cars like UTLX Panda bear and 30,000 gallon general funnel flows would be nice. Even the more specialized cars with two valves covers are interesting. Keep them coming. How about the SD70ACE T-4 in NS colors?

Please make BNSF warbonett dash 9’s in the future and also make BNSF gp39e 2931 in the BN green scheme. It’s one of the first engines BNSF created. Also gp30’s patched in BN green paint patched to BNSF would be cool.

A quick question after I viewed your video on how trains are made, is all of the engineering and design work performed in China with subcontractors , or does scale trains actually do the 3D design and detail engineering domestically leaving the tooling design etc to the factory?
Our trains are designed both in the USA and in China. It depends on what stage the project is in. We have a team in China that primarily handles the CAD, tooling, and manufacturing. -Drayton

Now that the DASH-9 and AC4400CW tooling are complete, the rebuilds would be a natural extension. Do you know this old model railroad proverb? As soon as you start creating your own custom AC44C6M, someone will announce a mass-produced model. Shane

I understand that HO is your bread and butter but a mention of “S” scale would have been an appropriate acknowledgement to your S scale clients. You should consider the development in S of one of your fine scale HO locomotives.

Interesting suggestion. The Southern Appalachia Railway Museum (SARM) has the four Man O War passenger cars and is a short drive from us. Shane
The SD70MAC in all variations (MAC, MAC-T1 and MACH) would be amazing, Athearn seems uninterested in doing them and a ST model would blow them out of the water.
With the N&W class J, how friendly will a DCC ready version be to a non ESU decoder?
I’ll be happy with just headlight and markers or headlight and cab light. The answer depends on how much I have to dismantle and rewire the engine.

We'll announce the second run of HO BNSF Reefers in 2024. We would anticipate some preorder cancellations from the first run so it's likely some will become available. Shane

Just got my c39-8. Pretty nice model however the radiator screens on the conductor side were loose and fell off as soon as I took it out of the packing. Your factory sucks at glueing stuff but still a nice model.
Thanks for your purchase. We're sorry the transition between hot and cold temperatures caused the etched metal part to expand and contract thus popping off the screen. When it comes to fine grilles, we've instructed our factory to place a small amount of glue on these fine see-through parts. Using too much glue would cause the glue to ooze and be visible through the screens which would be unsightly. Grilles can easily be reattached with tiny amount of canopy glue applied with a needle, straight pin, or toothpick.
Also, I’d pay “good money” for you guys to do a b32-8. Make those PLEASE! NOT the crappy NS version but the BN model with the rounded cab.

@@Scaletrains not even joking. Make the old BN version with the rounded cab. Put me down for 2 of em. Believe the BN was the only class 1 with the rounded cab. There was 3 or 4 of them. I’ve got pics and got to ride on these in the 90’s before they disappeared.

Man if any steam engine is done you’d need to consider L&N M-1s everyone I know who models L&N wishes a company would pick up the task of doing an M-1 aside from brass that needs huge curve radiuses and other modifications to even make it run.

Didn't Scaletrains acquire MTH's HO scale division?
Yes they did. Some of the former MTH rolling stock is starting to trickle out in the Kit Classics line (I believe there are 4 pieces as this writing). I have 2 of the steel cupola cabeese that are ex MTH tooled models, very nice solid models!
Are you going to produce a SD70ACe, so that you can do the rest of the NS Heritage Fleet?

BUT.....Not One Word, Whisper or Mention of your well received "S" scale line of RTR rolling stock, or Anything else in 1:64th scale. A BIG disappointment after your recent delivery of 40ft. Box Cars in "S" scale.
