June Carter Cash was already country music royalty before she even met Johhny.... As a daughter of Maybelle Carter, she was a member of the iconic Carter Family, who DOMINATED the entire genre in the early days... Many of these later generations may have no knowledge of the Carters, but the legacy of "The First Family of Country Music" is impossible to ignore, even to this day...
💯
Yes!!!! Mother Maybelle is really the one and only, undisputed first lady of country music.
Greats like Loretta, Tammy, Patsy, all have Mother Maybelle to thank.
she is his wife
I knew about the Carter family. Wildwood flower was one I remember hearing since I was 2 years old. Though I never thought she was from THE Carter family. I should’ve put that together lmao
I was born in 1943. Listened to The Carter Family as a kid. Seems like yesterday at times and like a century ago at others.
They were married from 1968 till 2003 when June died. Johnny died 4 months later.
She was more then his wife. She was the love of his life.
From a Rolling stone article about Johnny.
"On September 12th, 2003, the world bid a sad farewell to the Man in Black, Johnny Cash. The 71-year-old American icon was still grieving the loss four months earlier of his wife of 35 years, June Carter Cash, when he died from complications from diabetes in the early-morning hours at Nashville’s Baptist Hospital."
"During his last live performance he stopped the show to say to the audience. “The spirit of June Carter overshadows me tonight,” he said. “With the love she had for me and the love I have for her, we connect somewhere between here and Heaven. She came down for a short visit tonight, I guess, from Heaven, to visit with me tonight and give me courage and inspiration, like she always has.” A short time latter he followed June."
She was a bigger star (with her family group) than he was. His “pursuit” of her was pretty legendary. Movie Ring of Fire does an okay job of showing their backstory
She was never a bigger star then Johnny Cash
@@donaldstewart8342 Her family was. The Carter Family was very famous when Johnny was coming up.
@@donaldstewart8342 she was on the radio and performing for at least 2 decades before his career took off as a member of the 2edition of the carter family
Walk the line was a better story of their story.
The movie Walk The Line with Juaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon can give you their story. She was a member of The Carter family, with Mother Maybell Carter. They were more famous than Johnny when they met.
Great movie!
My cousins were legendary
Johnny Cash's guitar playing is unique. He often plays on the neck of the guitar. When a Johnny Cash song comes on, you can tell it by the guitar. I have seen Johnny live twice. He always starts his shows with, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash".
Absolutely. Is going to jackson❤
I'm gonna go to jackson jackson i'm going i'm gonna go I'm gonna go to Jackson.
❤❤ W e we we're going we're going to jackson😊
I also love the version done by Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix in the movie Walk the Line. 😁👏
June Carter was the daughter of Mother Maybelle Carter, who with her brother in law and sister in law performed as the Carter Family and are considered pioneers of Country Music. Maybelle continued performing with her daughters June, Helen and Anita after her in laws broke up and divorced. Maybelle was highly respected and revered for her unique guitar playing and talent. You should check out both the Original Carter Family (A.P. and Sara Carter) as well as Mother Maybelle with her daughters.
They were with the Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest of the country world Ralph Emery, who introduced them here. Carl Smith was her first husband and she and Carl had recorded this song together and Johnny was married to his first wife Vivian and Johnny was in love with June who was a much bigger star than he was having come from the legendary Carter Family of singers, although June was often the comedic element to their performances because she felt her sisters especially Anita were better singers. June struggled with the thought of divorce even though her marriage was rocky with Carl. They did eventually marry after divorcing their spouses and brought their kids together along with having one child together, John Carter Cash, and they remained married until their deaths, just a few months apart. June wrote Johnny's hit, Ring of Fire.
She was never married to Carl Perkins,She was married to Carl Smith
@@donaldstewart8342 Yes you are right, I knew it was Smith and still was stuck on Perkins in my head. I edited to correct it!
The story of Johnny and June is epic. They belong together. It was a rocky road to get there. And I would have to go back and search but I think you maybe already reacted to him as an elderly man right before death singing that song Hurt? It was a cover of Trent Reznor Nine Inch Nails it was originally about teens that cut themselves because they are suffering so much. And he first heard it and related to it heavily. And once he recorded that iconic version of it, even Trent was like hey, it's Johnny Cash's song now. But when he talks about his disenfranchisement and alienation, they even show pictures of June there on top of that piano that he's at. They had grown old together and he had recently lost the love of his life. A huge burning love of his life.
She was in the "Hurt" music video with Johnny.
And sadly passed 2 months after the music video was released, during heart surgery.
I do believe they are talking about Jackson, Tn.....Carl Perkins was from Tennessee....I saw him sing several times.
I haven't heard anyone using the word cheeky, pretty much since my youth in Ireland. You made cheeky charming!
June Carter Cash could flat out sing country
One of their best songs. A real classic. Some Johnny Cash songs you could try: Ring of Fire, Cocaine Blues, and his number one hit - Folsom Prison Blues
I Got Stripes is one of my favorites. I always have to be the oddball LOL
This was from 1967 as well as the record. It was the prime of the Tennessee Three.
When I was in high school I skipped. A bunch of friends and I went to the airport. This was before 911. This was a late 70s. And as we were riding back-and-forth on the monorail. One of the trips we were accompanied by two men in black. When I turned around, I realized one was Johnny Cash and the other was Waylon Jennings. We didn’t speak to each other we were at one end and they were the other. However, Johnny knew that I knew who he was. He and I looked at each other and we acknowledged each other pretty much. When we reached our destination. The airport was pretty crowded but when Johnny and Waylon walked out of the monorail the crowd split like the Red Sea. Nobody approached him or Waylon. They just smiled and moved out of his way.
Yes Johnny and June were married. I believe they're referring to Jackson, TN 🤷♀️
They mentioned going to Jackson to see Carl Perkins, who is from my hometown of Jackson, Tennessee. Great reaction!
I would drive by his house sometimes. My parents said they drove by once and he was out mowing his lawn.
When they started singing this song, Johnny was pursuing June; they sang this before and after they got married
No one today remembers the Carter Family much, but they were pretty big before Johnny. Of course, Johhny Cash became one of the biggest names ever in Country Music. June sounds so good here with Johhny. I had actually forgotten about her singing. Thanks for this memory.
These two became an item of course . They were both married tp other partners but did get married . I think leaving their partners weighed heavy on their minds . Ring of Fire was written by June i think , it was about the fire of their relationship having both left their partners . June was from the famous CARTER family , famous for country music . Great Duo ,thankd Britt .
They do have great chemistry together. Another husband and wife duo is Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter. They sing "Suspicious Minds" together and it is really good. Please check it out.
They sing Storms Never Last is their ULTIMATE song.
Consider watching Finding Your Roots with Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. where he researches the roots of Roseanne Cash on both her father’s (Johnny Cash) and mother’s (Vivian Liberto) side. It was a great episode.
When June was younger and a member of the Carter Family, she was often called on to provide comic relief like she started in the video. She finally put her foot down and insisted on simply be a straight singer and had her own solo career.
I met them both when Johnny Cash was making a commercial at my job at Nissan. He was in poor health at that time. He loved June more than life it self.
Listen to the Carter Family.. June was famous in her own right...
Jackson was a big hit for them and crossed over into the pop charts.
Your observations of detail are what make your reaction channel so great, don't ever say it don't matter. That's why I watch them
All I know this subject has been said so I’ll just say thanks for yet another insightful reaction
Her voice is phenomenal. That growl is …. wow.
The style was so great back then a great period in this country!
When in the Army, I was the announcer for all the ceremonies for a couple years. My CSM nicknamed me golden throat. I got a lot of ish for that.
Johnny and Elvis started out together at Sun studio in Memphis Tennessee. Friends and toured together in the 50's along with Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins
I live in Jackson, Mississippi, and love these two and that amazing song.
My first concert of any kind, Johnny, June, Carter Family, Statler Brothers, Little Jimmy Dickens, Roy Acuff...late sixties fun day in Indy.
June used to put Elvis up for weeks at a time when they were young. Her children said they knew something was going on. I love that. She was a hot number back then.
Johnny & June were great together.
Johnny Cash And June Carter what an awesome song together love it thank you so much for sharing this video with us love your cute laugh too Britt.🌹❤️👍
Heal on men must be a boot. They were a hoot together.
Another note...
This was a time in our history where women didn't go to bars alone, much less talk back to their husbands in public.
In a way, it was very much pushing the boundaries.
June Carter was an absolute hoot. You got a glimpse here of her famous on-stage character. Not that you need to do reactions to them, but check out some of the videos of her with the Carter Family, her mother Maybelle and her sisters. She generally comes roaring out with some hysterical story, in the personification of a ditzy country girl. She was anything but ditzy, of course, but her stage character was so convincing that she always had the show hosts and audience on the floor laughing. The clips I reference are from the 1950s and 60s, before she met, or at least, married Johnny. Great reaction, and you sure didn't miss the chemistry between Johnny and June.
Glad you found this song! I get the feeling this song is a pretty accurate representation of their marriage. Johnny Cash was wild in his younger days, and June was determined to help him straighten his life out - whether he wanted to or not! Two icons of country music, though June's time with the Carter Family was a bit before most television.
A must movie on Johnny cash then u will know and enjoy his music even more walk the line top 20 movies all time
Love this duo! June Carter Cash was also the godmother of Hank Williams Jr.
June was hilarious.
June can be seen standing on the stairs in the Jonny Cash Hurt video.
Carl Perkins lived in Jackson, Tennessee, about 3 hours from Nashville. That's where they're goin'
Yes, she was his wife. She was the woman in the “Hurt” video standing on the stairs, looking down at him.
This may the best for the two together
Carl Perkins lived in Jackson TN. Would drive by his house and he would be mowing his lawn.
I think the song was referring to Jackson, Tennessee. A city about half way between Nashville and Memphis.
Great little BBQ shack there in Jackson TN. Been through there several times with my husband (truck driver)
Check out the Carter family. That's where she got her singing from, then enter John in her life, aka the man in black. Probably the best love story every in country music. Not without hardships but they made it work
The Carter family rose from poverty to become country music royalty. The story is incredible.
yes June is his wife, they also appeared on a couple Little House On The Prairie episodes
They were both amazing artist and together they are outstanding.
Oh I would love to see you react to them two singing LONG LEGGED GUITAR MAN ❤
Watch Johnny Cash HURT, it will make you cry.
Great duo
In 1975, I was 9 years old, a corporal in the Kiss Army, knew the lyrics to Alice Cooper songs, also a closet Johnny Cash fan. My parents always walked in on me listening to Johnny with the big puffy 1970's headphones on. Johnny and June came to town and my parents took me and my twin sister and my brother to our first concert. 47 years later, I still watch live music at least 100 times a year. I've been hooked since Johnny's first song. Dang! Thanks for the great video! Peace
You'd love the movie about them. "Walk the line". ❤
If I'm not mistaken, Johnny Cash was one quarter of the 'Million Dollar Quartet' at Sun Records in the early/mid 50's. It was Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and finally (always saving the best for last) Elvis Presley. I believe the only time they sang together was an impromptu jam session at Sun. Just a little trivia to add to your 'fan girl' love for Elvis.
Yeah. They made a stage play about it. The title escapes me at the moment.
He her and her family were amazing and then Johnny Cash got involved and then they became amazing and she saved his life he was addicted to pills
June was also known for being very funny
Just awesome absolutely awesome 🌺🌺🌺
I absolutely going to jackson❤
I’ve always liked this tune. Johnny was the king.
Jackson was probably their biggest hit as a duet, but I always preferred their cover of If I Were a Carpenter
Hotter than a pepper sprout. Yes, they were. A pair of firecracker
Another of their duets was If I Was Carpenter .
This is one of my favourite duets because of that interaction between them - one speaking while the other is singing.
Saw them and all the regulars from their weekly TV show around 70/71
Your so cute! My missy!💋😍💕
I used to sing this with a lady in a country music stage show when I lived in Florida. We had so much fun doing the song.
Hi Britt. Be sure to check out Nancy Sinatra and her husband, Lee Hazelwood's remake of "Jackson". It's really cool.
George Strait and Martia Mcbride done a duet of this also. A must watch too.
Before she met Johnny she was s also known for her comedy. She usually played a man crazy country girl
A real Love story for all time they were something Poor John didnt last a year after losing his Miss June
Love this song! These two were so wonderful together. RIP
I LOVE THIS...best June and John song...oh, the footwork is from clogging...the traditional dancing from Appalachia...wanna see something cool check out Hillary Klug do Cotton Eyed Joe triple threat...she is one hell of a fiddle player and dancer.
❤️❤️❤️
Please! Please! look at the older Grand Ole Opry hour! Before Johnny came along, June Carter was a star. She was a very funny being a comedian. Check it out.
Love the channel and your enthusiasm of talent
Her and her family saved his life date literally got him off the drugs and made him a normal person
Great song from this married duet. Loved Johnny Cash and all his songs. June was a great influence on Johnny and was famous in her own right. I love this song and it always brings a smile to my face. Great reaction Britt!
You have to watch Walk The Line, it’s the story of their relationship
June Carter's family was like country music royalty long before Johnny Cash came on to the scene.. They were known as the Carter Family.
Johnny Cash loved listening to them on the radio when he was a kid. And he said that he would eventually marry June Carter, and he eventually did.
Ugh. So good. She was always waitin behind her Ja-pan fan. Great team.
Cool song and Johnny in particular is so good in general. A very fun version of this song was done by The Hillbilly Moon Explosion. Since you mentioned footwork you should really check out the video of Elvis Costello doing the song "Pump It Up". Talk about some crazy footwork.
Two country giants that were married for a lifetime
If you liked this you will love their "Long-Legged Guitar Pickin' Man"
June Carter Cash was already Country Music Royalty before meeting Johnny Cash. Her mother Maybelle along with cousin Sarah and Sarah’s husband AP Carter formed the original Carter Family the first family of Country. After the breakup,Maybelle and her daughters continued performing.
June was a member of what many considered the first family of country music The Carter Family, June was much more famous than Johnny at this time, but he was one of country music's bad boys and she was one of country music's good girls, see how opposites attract...
A great reaction. I remember reading him saying that while some thought he hurt his career by becoming tied to the Carter family, that he'd have not become the artist he did without the ties to the Carter family.
Classic Americana
I recall when June passed, I knew Johnny wouldn’t stay…
June Carter Cash, was a part of the Carter Family of singers with her Mother Mabel Carter and June’s sisters. Mother Mabel could play the guitar and she had a unique style of strumming the guitar. Listen to wildwood flower with Mabel on the lead guitar and singing. Great old time music
I like how he takes the higher part, even though his voice is typically so low.
She also wrote Ring Of Fire
