June Carter Cash was already country music royalty before she even met Johhny.... As a daughter of Maybelle Carter, she was a member of the iconic Carter Family, who DOMINATED the entire genre in the early days... Many of these later generations may have no knowledge of the Carters, but the legacy of "The First Family of Country Music" is impossible to ignore, even to this day...

She was more then his wife. She was the love of his life.
From a Rolling stone article about Johnny.
"On September 12th, 2003, the world bid a sad farewell to the Man in Black, Johnny Cash. The 71-year-old American icon was still grieving the loss four months earlier of his wife of 35 years, June Carter Cash, when he died from complications from diabetes in the early-morning hours at Nashville’s Baptist Hospital."
"During his last live performance he stopped the show to say to the audience. “The spirit of June Carter overshadows me tonight,” he said. “With the love she had for me and the love I have for her, we connect somewhere between here and Heaven. She came down for a short visit tonight, I guess, from Heaven, to visit with me tonight and give me courage and inspiration, like she always has.” A short time latter he followed June."

Johnny Cash's guitar playing is unique. He often plays on the neck of the guitar. When a Johnny Cash song comes on, you can tell it by the guitar. I have seen Johnny live twice. He always starts his shows with, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash".

June Carter was the daughter of Mother Maybelle Carter, who with her brother in law and sister in law performed as the Carter Family and are considered pioneers of Country Music. Maybelle continued performing with her daughters June, Helen and Anita after her in laws broke up and divorced. Maybelle was highly respected and revered for her unique guitar playing and talent. You should check out both the Original Carter Family (A.P. and Sara Carter) as well as Mother Maybelle with her daughters.

They were with the Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest of the country world Ralph Emery, who introduced them here. Carl Smith was her first husband and she and Carl had recorded this song together and Johnny was married to his first wife Vivian and Johnny was in love with June who was a much bigger star than he was having come from the legendary Carter Family of singers, although June was often the comedic element to their performances because she felt her sisters especially Anita were better singers. June struggled with the thought of divorce even though her marriage was rocky with Carl. They did eventually marry after divorcing their spouses and brought their kids together along with having one child together, John Carter Cash, and they remained married until their deaths, just a few months apart. June wrote Johnny's hit, Ring of Fire.

The story of Johnny and June is epic. They belong together. It was a rocky road to get there. And I would have to go back and search but I think you maybe already reacted to him as an elderly man right before death singing that song Hurt? It was a cover of Trent Reznor Nine Inch Nails it was originally about teens that cut themselves because they are suffering so much. And he first heard it and related to it heavily. And once he recorded that iconic version of it, even Trent was like hey, it's Johnny Cash's song now. But when he talks about his disenfranchisement and alienation, they even show pictures of June there on top of that piano that he's at. They had grown old together and he had recently lost the love of his life. A huge burning love of his life.

When I was in high school I skipped. A bunch of friends and I went to the airport. This was before 911. This was a late 70s. And as we were riding back-and-forth on the monorail. One of the trips we were accompanied by two men in black. When I turned around, I realized one was Johnny Cash and the other was Waylon Jennings. We didn’t speak to each other we were at one end and they were the other. However, Johnny knew that I knew who he was. He and I looked at each other and we acknowledged each other pretty much. When we reached our destination. The airport was pretty crowded but when Johnny and Waylon walked out of the monorail the crowd split like the Red Sea. Nobody approached him or Waylon. They just smiled and moved out of his way.

June Carter was an absolute hoot. You got a glimpse here of her famous on-stage character. Not that you need to do reactions to them, but check out some of the videos of her with the Carter Family, her mother Maybelle and her sisters. She generally comes roaring out with some hysterical story, in the personification of a ditzy country girl. She was anything but ditzy, of course, but her stage character was so convincing that she always had the show hosts and audience on the floor laughing. The clips I reference are from the 1950s and 60s, before she met, or at least, married Johnny. Great reaction, and you sure didn't miss the chemistry between Johnny and June.

It was Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and finally (always saving the best for last) Elvis Presley. I believe the only time they sang together was an impromptu jam session at Sun. Jackson was probably their biggest hit as a duet, but I always preferred their cover of If I Were a Carpenter

Great song from this married duet. Loved Johnny Cash and all his songs. June was a great influence on Johnny and was famous in her own right. I love this song and it always brings a smile to my face. Great reaction Britt!

June Carter's family was like country music royalty long before Johnny Cash came on to the scene.. They were known as the Carter Family.
Johnny Cash loved listening to them on the radio when he was a kid. And he said that he would eventually marry June Carter, and he eventually did.

Cool song and Johnny in particular is so good in general. A very fun version of this song was done by The Hillbilly Moon Explosion. Since you mentioned footwork you should really check out the video of Elvis Costello doing the song "Pump It Up". Talk about some crazy footwork.

June Carter Cash was already Country Music Royalty before meeting Johnny Cash. Her mother Maybelle along with cousin Sarah and Sarah’s husband AP Carter formed the original Carter Family the first family of Country. After the breakup,Maybelle and her daughters continued performing.

June was a member of what many considered the first family of country music The Carter Family, June was much more famous than Johnny at this time, but he was one of country music's bad boys and she was one of country music's good girls, see how opposites attract...

A great reaction. I remember reading him saying that while some thought he hurt his career by becoming tied to the Carter family, that he'd have not become the artist he did without the ties to the Carter family.

June Carter Cash, was a part of the Carter Family of singers with her Mother Mabel Carter and June’s sisters. Mother Mabel could play the guitar and she had a unique style of strumming the guitar. Listen to wildwood flower with Mabel on the lead guitar and singing. Great old time music
