How to Build a Paddock in an Hour and a Half!

We only needed two hours to get a job done here and we planned an all out work party to get it complete. This ended up falling on the one day of the biggest downpour in recent memory with thunder and lightning and we all got soaked for it. Thanks a lot weatherman! You said we we had at least another hour before it poured on us.
This is a quick timelapse of us putting in new footing in our largest paddock in less than an hour and a half. Sped up over 3000 times it's original speed to about 2 minutes. I genuinely can't stop laughing watching this thing as it looks so funny.
One of the most important things of all when building a new paddock and laying footing is to make sure to put in filter cloth or landscape fabric to separate the dirt and mud from the footing layer. Otherwise it will be no time at all before they mix together and you just have more mud and a complete waste of time and money.
This particular paddock, while large, was under utilized for the horses as they tried their hardest to walk around the mud that was in there. It was always a pain to clean up and in general just wasn't in the horse's best interests for their health and well being.
We flattened out the mud to remove as much water as possible, as there is a grade to this paddock, and then let it sit to drain out. Then filter cloth was laid down from bottom to top so that the overlap of about a foot is from the top down. Then there is about 3 inches of crusher dust on top.
Anyways, hopefully this is at least amusing and at most educational as we worked from the top down laying footing with the gator and using the gator to help pack it down. As the material underneath was really mushy still, we tried really hard not to make divots and potholes in it so the material would go the farthest. Learned this best when building the arena.
When it was all done we went over it with a heavy roller to pack it and inhibit water from permeating and then left it for a week to settle and dry out. This is one of the most effective ways to build paddocks that will last through the seasons.

5/8 size gravel is best. Smaller and it can work it's way into any imperfections in the foot. Larger can cause bruising, especially on a horse with thin soles.

What is the white fencing line used attached to the posts

It's called bayco finish line. Essentially a stretchy plastic wire that is super strong but doesn't cut people or horses

What kind of filter fabric do you use?

It's called filter cloth here. Or drainage cloth. It's thick, much stronger than landscape fabric you buy in small rolls. This stuff is sold in 15 foot width by about 200 feet
