This video talks about how to think a little outside the box for land planning and paddock placement and layout. It's not an easy task when you really get into it, especially on odd shaped land. Sometimes you have to figure out how to make the best of what you have and that will change over time based on the needs of the horses and people.

Love this!
Nice to allow them to roam around, but not feel they need to fight for food.
The barn where I keep my horse is the only one in the area that keeps its horses in a herd environment.
There are 2 large pastures/paddocks that keep about 14 horses.
The owner has just cleared another area and started an expansion to make another pasture/paddock.
I had never heard of keeping horses in a herd like this before, but it makes sense.
They are happier together, as long as there is ample food available so there is little fighting.
Always interesting to watch the herd dynamics and the behaviour. You don’t see this when they’re keep in a 12X12 stall.
Sounds like you are at a great place. It's true, horses kept alone and locked off from others become complete social misfits, in many cases uncontrollable and dangerous. There's real peace and tranquility once they get themselves worked out and also get along well with the humans around them. We're always searching for the best version of that within the space we have.

They're there to heal up her pasterns from the way she has been getting up on the footing. The downside of crusher dust.. Not muddy, but it's not soft.

This was great! I actually love Jaime Jackson's writings and theories. I started a non profit horse/equine rescue in July (New Paths Horse Sanctuary) and want to apply his set up for keeping the horses off the grass and moving through mazes rather than standing in paddocks... much healthier all the way around. Your land is better being uneven is more natural and flat pasture is not the way to go as he discovered that's a big issues causer with their hooves and health. Great subject THANKS *:D

I think so too. It's coming along well and we're making changes as we go, switching horses, they all get time together somehow

Whats the ground in the paddocks? I have plain ground (Dirt!) and the winter rain turned it to straight muck. I feel so bad for them! This whole paddock paradise is a new concept for me. I really like it. Would this prevent the horses from being "buddy sour"? Looks like easy clean up, and possibly less worms?

OK first of all… You don’t have enough space For those horses. I don’t like the fact that you’re putting them in such a small place you could just make a huge one it seems like you don’t have enough land
Fair enough, I wish we could do better for them but if you could see what the majority of horses live in, it may seem like a good compromise. We're working at it and we have to take a bit of the good with the bad. I hope you'll be able to see the positivity we bring to the horses that come here. They are fed well, clean water, regular exercise and kind training with lots of access to getting out and about. We have well rounded and peaceful horses if that means anything 😊

Ya it's me again, the commenter. @8:33 what you where talking about with adding more obstacles. I am thinking that you should fill that place with water, add a pond and a mini rock waterfall section, and make it so the horse can go over a bridge. A flat bridge, but nice and large enough for a golf-cart too. Also adding some lilly pads would be cool, fish, idk. Might spook the horses. hehe. Want to drive a golf cart so badly on a beautiful property. So fun!
That sounds amazing! I wish... Hard to do, costs lots but a great idea! I have no use for a golf cart here as a I have a gator (all terrain farm vehicle)
@@StableHorseTraining got ya. I'd also been looking at the different trail paddock systems and love those ideas though. It's like watching the zoo animals at Philadelphia. Well, the Tiger of course. of course, the Cat gets its own unique layout. And the monkeys too 😁 Or just about any of them, but don't know because the last time we went to the zoo it was filled with food trucks. :( I missed it when I was little. :( Also I haven't seen you actually having any paddock system like paddock paradise. So I'm wondering what happened to that idea? thx

Yup, it's pretty interesting to see but they just seem happy to herd up in one spot for some reason or another.

It's your horse. I talk a lot on this channel about what's good for a horse mentally, and as you can see I don't keep my horses locked up in small rooms for a reason. Lots of people do it and lots of horses settle for it. Not the end of the world.

I really like your plan. I only have 3 and my one mare is the lead, she's extremely protective, sometimes good some times not so good. She insistes on eating first so I have a fenced area to feet my seinor , witch is normal, but, our lead mare also has freeked out about the neighbor making noise and then breaks the fence and herds the other 2 through 😏 usually at 5:30 in the morning. * I'm pretty sure the neighbor does it on purpose, he's that guy, if you have an animal he hates you. You know the perfectly manicured lawn,log house, brand new Escalade.
One day he rid his dirt Bike up and down the tree line, pop a wheely's and burn outs spinning in circles trying to get a rise out of them. If they see him they don't care lol. It's when they don't see him they get excited, he must have done his home work 😏
So I get up at 5 and feed them away from his house in the winter area.
Sounds like a jerk of a neighbor...

Great ideas. I love seeing how others built their equestrian areas. I get so many ideas for ours. We built a forest area as well, but the path to it needs to be wider like yours. Funny how our plans change as time passes and we learn what works and what doesn’t.
Yup, it's constantly adjusting but yet staying on a particular course. It's the details that adjust.
