@@NiTroSg Your statements seem to associate democracy with inefficiency - are you implying that we should give up on the opposition, resign to a future that we would forever be controlled by PAP and effectively become China for the sake of productivity? This is ‘inefficiency’ a trait of democracy: politicians scratch your back when you scratch theirs. Bills get stuck in congress due to the US’s bicameral system, with politicians in each chamber blocking them from passing, especially if the chambers are controlled by different parties. Singapore does avoid some issues by having a unicameral system, but the idea still stands. PAP has promoted the idea that if you don’t vote for them, your estate would be relegated in HDB upgrade priority (i.e. you vote for them, they work for you and vice versa). In return for this, it is expected for democratic governments to be accountable and transparent, aspects which are not so clearly defined in the current system, hence diminishing public opinion and trust on the government. The current optics of the system drifts away from that; personally, all I’m asking for is more accountability - I believe that the authority that CPIB answers should be seen as more impartial and trustworthy to the public, especially since the notion of "ownself check ownself" is negatively regarded in our society; these authorities could be the judiciary or independent commissions. More checks should never be treated as unusual, as it demands more accountability and transparency on the part of the government, which all governments, especially ours, could use more of.
