Yeah, I could have mentioned all the rivals and turned it into a 20-minute video - that nobody would watch until the end! The KTM though is the one that feels closest in terms of tech, the riding modes, and aids and the way they work.
@@visordown Ok. Just to mention, no need to elaborate, but I get your point on 20 min vid. So to resume KTM closer than MT09 taking all into account. Thanks
@@visordown I get that it's difficult to choose which bikes to compare, but honestly the 890r is in another class, it's only a few kilos heavier, has 25bhp more 32nm more and having ridden both there is no comparison. And to be fair it's a grand more.
Sweet bike with a touch of exotica that will hit the nail on the head for a lot of riders. I like the Trident and MT-07 as a more basic choice and the Duke for all out performance but the Tuono seems to combine much of the best of the competition and it looks the most awesome.
Great review in plain terms, no hype or shouting into the microphone, and not too long. I couldn't care less about comparisons with XYZ bike, I'd already done my own homework on the specs and just needed to hear about how you found the motor and handling and overall ride experience/engagement factor. Cheers, I've ordered one in Iridium grey!
Exactly I was very surprised how engaging the rs660 felt without heaps of power. Definitely is good for riders who want to have fun without hitting silly speeds.
Looks awesome! I tried the rs660 and it hits the seeet spot for me. It’s one of the best balanced bikes I’ve ridden. that parallel twin is a lot better than expected in terms of character and performance.
You mentioned the MT07 and Trident as comps yet both are £2500ish cheaper, surely MT09 and the Street Triples are more in the price range? Thanks for posting
Thanks Toad. Surely the comparison is the MT 09 rather than 07. It is closer in price and spec. Also the Street Triple RS? It would be great to see a comparison over twisties or canyons as the US call them. Usable power and handling...
The competition is the Monster 950, MT09SP, Duke 890, street triple. Duke is the best handling bike, MT09SP is the fastest and the Tuono is the best looking and a overall complete package and you will feel more special on that bike than any other in the competition. If the 1100 V4 did not exist I would have a 660.
Great video! I have been on the fence for a while between Tuono 660 Factory , KTM 890 R, MT09SP, Kawa F900SE, Monster SP and BMW M9T. Scratched off Ducati and BMW due to price. I really wanted the Tuono or KTM but I read to many horror stories about issues & Quality Control with both manufacturers. Unacceptable in 2023 and today’s technology. Leaning towards MT09SP due to performance, technology and reliability. It’s a shame, I really wanted the Tuono and KTM second.
Hi currently on a 20 plate mt-07 looking to upgrade to something more in tech & power in your opinion what do you think will be better tuono 660 an 890 Duke. The reason I ask is it really hard to find a dealer near me with a demo tuono
In Australia the Trident is Aud$12.7k OTR versus the KTM 890, Aprilia Tuono 660 and the MT09 SP being ~$20k OTR. So the dealers can't get enough Tridents. So sure if you want a bit more chops than the Trident then well you need to pay a lot more... ~+50% more. Trouble is our roads are only 100km/hr accept for the boring interstate truck channels which are 110km/hr. I didn't know you could legally drive at 80-90mph in the UK on public roads? Impressive.
I live in NZ. Triumph only brings in the learner model of the Trident, so off the list sadly. Same for the Honda and Kawasaki 650s. However the base MT09 is only $15,200 kiwi and SP $17,000. So hard to beat. The GSX S750 is great value at $14,000 kiwi. Also delivers over 100bhp a simple but well set up bike. Wind and probably better than the MT07?? At close to $20k the Aprilia has to beat the Street Triple.
Isn't the Trident LAMS (learner) only in Australia? I am considering the Tuono 660 as my second bike next year when I get full license, but only because there are no full power versions of the Honda CBR 650r or Trident 660. I felt the MT-07 is not a big enough increase after riding my learner bike for almost 2 years at that point. The rest of the competition have too much HP for me at this stage of learning.
Why does no one mention the fact that it has CRUISE CONTROL as a selling point? As someone who has owned many bikes but has always wished for CC, that alone makes this bike extremely appealing. Are there any other in this class other than the MT-09 SP ($500 more)?
Same situation 6ft 215 lbs and man I tell ya, I keep having to scroll through videos to find someone taller to compare and most of the reviews are done by tiny little people that make the bikes look bigger especially the Italian bikes. I found a 2018 Mv Agusta Brutale 800rr with 3k miles on it for 11k and was planning on buying it. I finally went to see it on the showroom floor and was crushed....The handle bars came to my waist standing next to it. It was literally like going to walmart and sitting on a kids 8v power wheel bike. Why make a machine so beautiful and powerful only to exclude anyone over 5ft 6 to look normal or feel comfortable on it?
Surely it would be better to buy a RS , And Change the Bars, I think Aprilia has made a big mistake. By the time you have added all the upgrades. It is Very expensive . If Only they had just Added High bars. And left the rest the same. That is why I purchased A MT 07
The MT is a simpler bike though with less top end and simple handling, no tech... and 34% cheaper where I live. Probs not 34% less fun, particularly for every day use where it has great torque.. Put another way the Tuono is 51% more expensive that the MT07. Hmmm value for money?
I thought we were past the days when manufacturers would detune the engines in naked bikes. Not cool Aprilia. This makes the high price even more outrageous. And they don’t include the IMU or quick shifter on a bike that’s priced as high as bikes that are 200cc larger or more? It’s insane. I have no idea why anybody would buy this bike.
Bikes are overpriced these days. I realise they need a load of crap on board to comply with the latest Euro specs but I think if you took my 1999 ZXRr and made it into a sit up and beg you’d have a much better bike. That cost a touch under 6 grand then so inflation seems crazy now. It had two more cylinders and more bhp. I’m an aprilia fan and love twins. I can’t see why Aprilia couldn’t have brought out a reduced Cc Shiver in this trim. Then we wouldn’t have had to pay for all the r&d necessary for this bike. It looks gorgeous but the price tag is obscene.
5'10" isn't "really tall" it's average! I'm 6'3" and my son is 6'5", he's really tall. Tiny roadtesters really do not help our buying choices. Love idea of this bike, but like so many, particularly Triumphs, they're simply not built for anyone over 5'8"....5'10" max.
Specs wise and price wise new MT09 is more than a contender, but not mentioned here, although you've put KTM 890.

Considering the price the mt09 is a direct competitor. Mt09 also has 6 axis imu. Tuono is overpriced plain and simple
Considering what it lacks compared to the stock RS, it should really be even cheaper

Fun, engaging bikes don't need masses of power, I used to think fun was proportional to power - absolutely not !
Exactly I was very surprised how engaging the rs660 felt without heaps of power. Definitely is good for riders who want to have fun without hitting silly speeds.
How does it compare to the new Ducati Monster?
What about the MT09SP I’d of thought for the money, that would be more comparable than the MT07 ?
This thing is a reluctant naked bike.

how is this a naked bike? I put bar risers on my GSXR, is it now a naked bike? ;-)
If you remove the Side fairings or turn them to bikini fairings like the tuono, it will be a naked , as per aprillia 😂😂😂😂
What is the biggest difference in ride quality between this one and RS660? Can't decide between them 😅
Basically nothing. Set up is adjustable so you can tweak it as you wish. Tuono comes without an IMU as standard - can be added as an option though'

I am 6‘5 and I don’t feel cramped at all on the bike it’s really comfortable for me
Heard any thing about the 660 motors throwing con rods?? It is a little stressed for a street focused twin?
I would buy it for $9k, but not for $10.5k, Duke 890 otherwise. MT-09 costs $9.4k here in US.
I’m not convinced. A lot of competition in this sector.
Better than the 890R? These days a 600cc bike is almost a small displacement.
Yeah aprilia fucked up in terms of pricing for the tuono and the RS. Its as expensive as 890r / striple RS which both have waaaay more performance.
How is it in comparison to BMW F 900R?
BMW sucks in this case, but it's $1.5k cheaper.
How was it finding neutral and shifting on this bike?
Would be good to see a comparison between this and a Street Triple R
