The hidden chest at the beginning of the game no longer missable. If you fail to get it by riding on Toad's head, you can still get it later after a couple of Toad gaurds are placed in that room. Just wait for one of them to get close to the ledge and jump on top of him and then into the ledge.
When you get the star egg you can equip a character with the quartz accessory that Culex drops and the egg will do 150 damage instead of 100 when used by that character. I like to use this setup with Lazy Shell Peach since her attack is trash. When she's not healing she can do an automatic 150 damage to all enemies. Very useful.

I was sincerely planning to hunt the flags down with our help, but I'm glad I've seen them in this video because it's made me want to pick the game back up 🎉
I would always equip the lazy shell armor with the jynx belt without fail; their attack power wouldn't be normal but it would be high enough to make the character useful for inflicting damage again.

The original was one of my favorite SNES games. I skipped the part of the video where the flag locations were said because I knew it'd be easy enough to find them, which it was, but I'm really glad for the fertilizer and casino tips because I never would have found those on my own. Although after playing Grate guy the prize doesn't seem worth it trying to win 100 times. I played probably 15 times and only won maybe 5 times.

@@sny_guy I just bought the switch remake recently off Facebook market place for $30. But I was born in 2001 but I’ve seen old let’s players play thru the original SMRPG. The cutscenes and the triple attack are blowing my mind.
The full potential of the Lazy Shell weapon can be maxed out by doing the Super Jump Challenge. Said challenge awards two items. Doing 30 of them lands the Mario-exclusive accessory known as the Attack Scarf while 100 Super Jumps lands the Super Suit. Both these items can push Mario's speed so high that he always gets the first strike against pretty much everything except the Culex post-game rematch. Not to mention the stat boosts are so insane that Mario barely takes any damage.

You can still get the chest by jumping on another toads head who walks near that part of the hall as soon as the town goes back to normal. I remember all these when I was a kid. I found them all myself due the countless times I played it and rented it from Block Buster. Trying to remember them all now as an adult is a bit overwhelming. Thanks for the memories.
Nice bit of nostalgia there… although I no longer have the original or my SNES, I do have an emulator and I should probably play this for old times sake. It was interesting though that the mystery egg is now rainbow colored versus pinkish white in the original.
There's a secondary secret with the Mystery Egg/Lamb's Lure: if you use it 48 times, it gets upgraded to a weapon that takes out all minor monsters on the screen. Also, sign of the times with them modifying Grate Guy's Casino from the original: you don't have to pay for the slots or card games, and the card game used to be Blackjack. Now the only real "at risk" gambling is the Yoshi races
@@sny_guy Well Grate Guy, while better than some, isn't the most mentally perfect out there I'm sure. I mean look at the crap shrooms you get from him and Knife Guy. 2 secrets I think are very helpful. 1. In Seaside town you can buy a hammer; that's more than like weaker than you current gear when you get there with the description, the Standard for all hammers; that's that Lucky Hammer. Pull off a timed hit with it and you'll trigger Lucky every time letting you double your coin or exp whenever you want. 2. You can loop buying the shiny stone. Get the fireworks Trade it at the Pur Tend Store Go the item shop and traded to the girl in the corner for a carbo cookie Give the carbo cookie to the girl in the bucket Wash rinse repeat Why do it, I'm not sure if it's the same now but back on SNES the amount of fireworks you bought from the mole determined what fireworks display you get at the end of the game
@@sny_guy I bought fireworks twice in the Switch version. Haven't tried more than that, but it seems to be doable. Have you actually tried? You have to do the trade swap event with the girl mole in the bucket for a cookie or something. Then you can buy fireworks again.
You just have to have purchased a total of 5 fireworks. You go thru the loop process of buying them, you don't have to actually have 5 in your inventory because it's not possible to have more than 1 at a time in your hands. Fireworks to shiny stone to carbo cookie to frog coins from the girl in the bucket. Do that five times minimum and you get the star firework during the parade at the end of the game. Also once you give the girl in the bucket enough carbo cookies, she leaves the bucket and you can jump on it and go inside it like a pipe to instantly get teleported to the Midas river mini game.
The resolution in this game almost looks like 4K- it's a gorgeous little game. In fact, I'm gonna start buying only Nintendo IP for switch. And buy third-party for other systems.
I wanted to point out that for the Grate Guy Casino secret platform you don't have to jump randomly, just jump a few times in left upper corner from where the gold chain chomp was. After three or so tries it will show up. I was jumping like a fool for a long time around that area and it never showed up until I jumped in that spot.
Hey bud good video! You just brought me way down memory lane, I was one of of OG players of the 96' SNES version and I remember pretty much everything you just covered haha. One question about the remake version I had though that I'm curious about, that new Star attack gauge they added, do they give you a way to turn it off if you wanna go through the game like the original style or is it a permanent battle feature they added that you have to have?
The Lazy Shell armor doesn't just tank your speed and attack. It also cuts your Magic stat by 150 points, which will turn Peach next to useless since Magic is her best stat and she is dependent on that for healing. I've found a much more effective setup is to put it on Mario with the Attack Scarf. That accessory prevents instant death and the stat boosts mostly cancel out the penalties inflicted by the armor (and only Mario can wear it). Then by putting the Super Suit and Quartz Charm on Geno to max out his speed and causing him to act before any enemy in the game at the start of battle, you can begin each fight by using Geno Boost on Mario to double his attack. This gives you a a Mario that takes only a single point of damage from virtually any physical attack, is immune to elemental damage and status effects due to the armor, immune to instant death from the accessory, and still hits with physical attacks with roughly the same strength as he would be were he wearing any other armor. In addition, the penalty to Mario's Magic stat can be mostly negated due to Super and Ultra Jump damage being multiplied by the number of successful jumps you make.
0:12 - The Infamous Coin: In the original game, you are locked out of this coin if you don't immediately hop onto Toad's head and jump off at the door. In the remake, the hallway ends up with several Toads wandering the hallway, allowing you to hop up there without problems. It is accessible immediately after the first star is acquired if you don't get it before then. 5:00 - Path to Grate Guy's Casino: Why are you 'jumping all over the place' when it is strictly three jumps in the corner, against the wall, where the Chomp is? It does not require you to defeat it at all. 8:00 - Lazy Shell Armor: Peach gets her speed reduced by 30, but Bowser gets his speed reduced by only 20. If you equip the Feather you acquire for avoiding being pecked by Dodo during your time as a statue, you can see this inconsistency in Speed. Also, the remake gets rid of the absolute immunity to elemental attacks that existed in the original game, making some fights actually require careful consideration again.
@@sny_guySadly that is not going to happen as the only Streaming I do is over Discord or Steam when I am wanting to share my gameplay with others. As I am running an HP Omen gaming Laptop I also can't stream the Switch anywhere. I tried recently with the Switch, but not even I could make anything out on the Switch's screen while I was looking at my own live feed. The only way I can stream it 'properly' will be if I had my laptop in my lap and I streamed it while the switch was Docked.
For the great guy casino trick, There’s no need to defeat the chomp either jumping randomly, just jump in the corner three times once you have the bright card. Voila.
just finished my replay as a 36 year old. While it was for sure nostalgic, It seemed MUCH easier this time through. Didnt finish all the secrets but beat it in roughly 11 hours.
This may be a less expected question, but I gotta know now lol. I always loved the sound of Mario kicking the lazy shell. I got him the lazy shell in the remake, and it has the same sound effect as a dinky little noknok shell. I noticed in a clip you included, your lazy shell sounded right! Did you edit that in? Or is my lazy shell bugged? I mean it has no effect on gameplay whatsoever, but I miss that sound so much. Probably a stupid thing to miss 😅
They have placed a new toad in the end of the hall in the castle in case you missed toad, I was able to get up there late game to check that I gotten that chest.
@@sny_guy Sorry for the duplicate - the second time time toad is met (after getting Peach) it plays as a cut scene not as the original "second chance" from the SNES version. I think that why the guard was added to that end of the hall. I had to replay the original game twice because I didn't know about that chest til late (signal ring was a late game item). BTW: Have you noticed there seems to be fewer items for purchase with frog coins in seaside?

I still need to do the Mystery Egg, thanks
Let’s gooooo!!
I still remember the flag locations and the code to get to the giant squid, completed all the puzzle s too after all these years 😂
I love to hear this!!!
Great video. Sub earned
Appreciate it!!! 🙏🏾
The resolution in this game almost looks like 4K- it's a gorgeous little game. In fact, I'm gonna start buying only Nintendo IP for switch. And buy third-party for other systems.
I agree with you 100%.
I am not yet near any of these side quests but definitely remembering this video. Super helpful, thank you!
No problem!! I hope you are enjoying the game!
Mario be selling fireworks to miner minors for some 'shiny rock'.... Shrooms aint the only goodies on this trip!
Yoooooo 🤣🤣🤣
I wanted to point out that for the Grate Guy Casino secret platform you don't have to jump randomly, just jump a few times in left upper corner from where the gold chain chomp was. After three or so tries it will show up. I was jumping like a fool for a long time around that area and it never showed up until I jumped in that spot.
Yeah I still think my way sounds better in theory lol.
LOL I guess... let the ppl jump around for a while! 😜
@@VideoStalker00 get some more mileage out of the short game. Btw I know I’m an idiot 🤡
LOL, btw thanks for the video and the useful hints and secrets. 🙂@@sny_guy
Shiny stone>monstro town>pocketmonsters>monstro is monster in english>shiny stone is a pokemon item>wish there was a pokemon reference in mario
No sadly they don’t with the triple attack system. They made that and the buffs permanent! Really appreciate you checking out the video!!! 🙏🏾
You just don't use it. I only used it the first time they make you.
- my favorite is calling the rental store to hold the game and call me when it comes back in. - no seriously back in 96 this game was like perma out.
3:40 You forgot to mention that the Lamb's Lure becomes the Sheep Attack after 48 uses.
Sure did!
I agree. There are def some better setups for sure!
Great video thank you
Thank you for checking it out!!
BRO! the lambs lure becomes the lamb attack after you add 100 lambs to your flock.
Well yeah but her speed is lower than 30 so it’s gonna take it to 0 that’s most likely why he said that
This is intense! You seem very invested and need to make a video yourself!!!

You didn't mention upgrading Lamb's Lure into the Sheep Attack. ; ;
You are correct!
lamb's lure used enough times becomes sheep attack. in the original snes game the great guy casino card game was black jack.
@@serphenhell13 Yurp!
For the great guy casino trick, There’s no need to defeat the chomp either jumping randomly, just jump in the corner three times once you have the bright card. Voila.
My way is WAYYYYY better

@sny_guy Man that lazy shell is night and day for Mario. The accessory one not so much lol
Use the lambs lure enough upgrades it to sheep attack
I forgot about this!!! Thank you!
I know if you complete the Sky Troopas challenge in a really short time you get an item. I forgot what it was called. I think a Troopa Badge?
The troopa pin I believe! Increases speed and doubles your attack power as well!!
the first one actually is achievable easier than in the original. some time later in the game the toad just stands there
I heard this!!! I pinned the comment of the first guy to tell me that!
@@sny_guy aaaah nice
I remember riding my bike to funcoland to ask the store clerk about how to get access to the casino :p
just finished my replay as a 36 year old. While it was for sure nostalgic, It seemed MUCH easier this time through. Didnt finish all the secrets but beat it in roughly 11 hours.
I’m also 36 which makes you a legend. I agree it was a little easier. I knew it the moment I fought the hammer bros.
No edit! It’s the sound of the lazy shell. That weird that yours is like that!!
@@sny_guy Whaaat? I wonder why mine sounds so whimpy then. I miss the big thonks. 😢😢😢
In settings, change to classic sound rather than remake sounds.

There’s also post game content as well for what that’s worth that’s unique to the remake.
Yes!!!!
2:07 - I found that secret on my second try and I thought I was stuck. I spent hours looking for the key... until I realize that is just a secret...
😅😅😅
Already knew all these secrets but I wanted to check if anything new was added.
There is some new stuff post game but I don’t want to ruin that for the peeps that have played the game before in 1996
They have placed a new toad in the end of the hall in the castle in case you missed toad, I was able to get up there late game to check that I gotten that chest.
See pinned comment!!

So many secrets in this game.
I need a sequel 😩
I wish there was trick or strategy to make it easier to beat Grate Guy's minigame.
I just looked the same way until i eventually got it done haha.
I love this game soooooo much!!! I'm also a '96 Mario RPG kid. This was the first ever RPG I played and beat 100%!! The... secret... in Monstro town... was responsible for my love of Squaresoft RPG's going forward, lmao.
They really did knock this game out the park. Sequel!!!???
All of these are awesome secrets. None of them compare to having a super suit. Learn to jump 100 times in a row and talk to Chow.
You're awesome
I used to be unsure of how to pronounce Belome until I saw the Japanese pronunciation. It's ベローム Beromu. A syllable ending in the oo sound in Japanese normally means a silent vowel in English. So the e is silent. Bell-oh-m.
So I have heard. I'm not sure if my 26 year old habit of calling him lunch meat is going to change at this point!
5:08 “Once you defeat him, start jumping for your life”.
No, you don’t. You just need to jump 3 times in the far left corner to make the hidden platform appear.
My way sounds so much better 😅
@@sny_guy As a matter of fact, you’re absolutely right! 🤣🤣🤣
Do the flags only show up when you talk to the musty fears or can you get them before that?
For this one you have to talk to the fears first!!
im 35 years old, honestly felt like a kid again playing this.
Me too!!! I couldn’t put the game down 😅
Is that really the map interface..? Wow, this remake looks too neat for me. No soul.
It was still super fun!
@@sny_guy True, that's the game itself!
the only thing i wish they wouldve added to this game was the ability to level all the way to 99 or 100. i maxed my levels before i beat it :(
I love this idea.
Super suit is much better than lazy shell armor, baka~
Thank you for the engagement to help push the video! Hope that comment made you feel better. Happy holidays 💪🏽
The memory card game was originally Blackjack, it should be kept as is challenging compared to the memory game
I liked the memory game!! It is too easy though 😅
you can get that first coin later in the game. after you beat it toads are walking around and you can get to it

Also, the Star Egg does 0 damage in the Punchinello rematch
Yeah he’s got that wild armor.
I totally sold the shiny stone for a carbo cookie… is there any way for me to get it again or am I locked out of that for the rest of my save file??
You can buy another set of fireworks and exchange them again!!!
What was the Nurture ring called in the original version?
B’Tub ring I believe!!!
What about the extra shiny stone?
I left out post game stuff!!
For look the other way, do you need to do all 100 in a row? Or can you do some and come back? Ive already done 30 and i accidentally left the room and came back
Correct look the other way and the juggling does NOT have to be in a row.

Why did they change Shyaway's name to Beezo?
Or Mack’s name to Claymorton???

I have not played this game at all this is why I'm probably having a hard time getting a hundred jumps but I got so close it's not even funny
It takes time and patience, but one trick that may help is, if you're using the Pro Controller, having it plugged in (and make sure you set the wired transfer in settings). There is a very slight delay with wireless, so this may make the timing even easier.
Just keep trying. I was able to get it after about 3 hours of practice, but I was also using joy cons
