I am 63 years old recently retired and my wife recently passed away so with all the spare time I have I decided to pick up the guitar again after not really playing for over 30 years so I picked up a Epiphone 50’s Les Paul standard gold top and honestly I am shocked at just how good it is the feel the fit and finish is shockingly good 😳 I see a ton of videos claiming the quality control could be better but I have zero complaints !!!

The Honey Burst "Classic" has a feature in addition to coil splitting that is not mentioned. Pull up on the tone pot for neck while you are in the middle position and you are now running "out of phase"
    So it has phase switching.
I own this one in the Heritage cherry burst finish. The phase switching is a cool feature. It is a unique tone.

These guitars are just awesome for the price you can't beat these new Epiphone guitars they are giving the working musician everything they need in a guitar great quality and payability I own three of them my self one of my Epiphone is all customized it a custom silver burst I put some Billy Gibbons custom shop pearly Gates on it and tone pros and 50s wiring I took out the push pull knobs and went with a 50s style and I put locking tuners and a new USA switch and input Jack my point is you can any thing you want to these guitars to personalize them the to your taste but it seems like these new ones already have everything done to them out of the box thanks for the awesome video.

I really think Gibson have people in place who are going to figure it out! I’ve now playing nearly 30 2020 Gibson’s all of which were incredible. The construction and work detail is perfect, the quality and sounds are what you should expect! But I’ve also been super impressed with the Epiphones in 2020.

Lovely stuff coming from Epiphone, and enjoying the line up really well. I really want to see what they do with the ES-line. Those Uptown Kats were absolutely stellar and seriously considering buying one to review.
    One small pick:
Is it just me or is that 'honeyburst' on the LP classic not really as subtle as a true honey could be? It looks like they've really slapped on the burst colour. Again, only nitpicking lol.
Great direction for the company moving forward!

The CTS pots in the Inspired by Gibson line have coarse (18) splined shafts. I have a new Inspired by Gibson SG and a 2019 Sheraton, both have the coarse splines. My USA Gibson LP has the fine (24) splines. So if ya wanna put different knobs on, order the knobs for imported pots.

I just received a Tuxedo Custom LP, Epiphone. I compared it to my 85 Custom LP, Gibson. Close inspection I find the Tuxedo fit and finish ;as well as initial setup as received, and very happy with the craftsmanship of the Epi. Great guitar and very happy with the purchase. The pickups are great, Probucker. Looks like Epiphone has picked up the slack of the horror years of Gibson, which they obviously have a long way to go.

Keith Fields did you get the new 2020 Epiphone Les Paul custom? How is the neck profile on it? Is it more 60s or 50s profile? I’ve been eyeing one myself. I like the changes Epiphone has made!

    • @keithfields1178
      @keithfields1178 4 роки тому +1

JP Huh . I believe it is a 2019 , th eneck is the slim taper D and seems fine. I like all neck thickness and profile styles and don’t mind playing any of them. I tried a guitar at a shop and found the sound was great. I wanted a pro model for the Peter Green hum bucker phase inversion option. Lately I’ve been adjusting he height of the Pickups for changes in tone. So far I’m liking the distance from strings to be furthered than closer. Still enjoying the purchase. Checked all measurements according to Stew Mak standards and all was well.

This is my first electric guitar with the intent of probably playing slow blues and honestly fingerstyle as well. It was beautiful to hold and play and has got so many tones to choose from. My old Bassist just got one of these for his son. He couldn't get over the quality. I told him, "Now you know what I know"!!!lol
I just ordered a '59 a few days ago. I got it from Zzounds because they have an exclusive finish option that no one else has..."Southern Fade".
"Southern Fade" seriously looks like an Iced-Tea Burst only with a different name and a Polyurethane instead of Nitrocellulose finish. It should be here on 5/8.
It's gonna look sweet keeping company with my HoneyBurst Les Paul Standard Plus Top PRO and my new Aged Yellow Tiger Prophecy Flying-V. 😁😁😁

I have been checking out these new Epiphones and considering to purchase one, I really like the new Custom model in alpine white but it does not have the Maple cap, it's just a solid Mahogany body (carved top) and my concern is that it will be too dark sounding and won't have the pop that the Maple cap gives it. Epiphone is really stepping their game up with these new editions and I just hope their QC meets all expectations. That being said, I did just watch a review of the new Gold Top model and well the QC department missed the boat on that one. 11 frets were too high and the reviewer had to actually dress the frets before he could play it and give his full review. After he did this, the guitar sounded great and he said he absolutely loved it. That was the YT channel, "Lucas Fowler" in case anyone is interested in watching that video.

Indian laurel and Pau Ferro were more common on boutique guitars...lol
But due to recent rosewood regulations as most folks are aware of, The Laurel and Pau Ferro are showing up on less expensive guitars around 500.00 and of course on up.
The winner is the consumer. Unless you just prefer the rosewood for whatever reason.
I love the looks of some of the Indian Laurel and Pau Ferro fretboards. I have 2 guitars with the Laurel and 1 with the Pau Ferro and several with Rosewood.
The Pau Ferro is more dense and less porous than Rosewood but not as dense as Ebony or certainly Maple. Indian Laurel is very similar to Rosewood in every way.

My mom accuses me of getting attitudes in text messages sometimes.
Unless it's a blatantly obvious F.U., I don't see how you can assign an attitude to written words. Hopefully they were just busy and giving short, concise answers to as many questions as possible.
But probably not because people suck... 😕
BTW, the answer I got from customer service was,
"Yes! There is indeed a CARVED MAPLE CAP under the veneer".
I interpreted the all caps as being definitive as this is a huge debate on LP forums.
Most people swear veneer means "veneer only".

Indian laurel is also known as Indian Rosewood.
There is absolutely zero evidence of any sonic differences between Indian laurel and plain old Rosewood..
The only certainty is personal preferences in looks. I've seen beautiful Indian Laurel fretboards and beautiful Rosewood as well as not so beautiful in both.
In fact, Indian Rosewood or Indian Laurel was more common on boutique guitars....The Rosewood has been heavily regulated in recent years prompting the Indian Laurel to used in its place.

I bought the purple classic worn. I have to say. The finish is shit, they really cheaped out on the worn series. It’s got some grain pitting that is really odd, because experts say that maple tops are a hard wood and never have grain pitting. Just really strange. Plus on mine it looks like they sprayed at an angle, because where the grain pitting marks are, some of the paint didnt cover it. Plus the tone pots are cheap Chinese smaller ones. I love purple, but also want quality!!
I am returning it and getting the classic one he shows here. Lovely finish and better hardware!

I'm probably the minority here, but I think this headstock shape is even worse on a Les Paul than the old Epiphone one.
This headstock shape is big and works better on bigger body guitars (335's and semiacoustics in general) or Les Paul Customs.

The big headstock that they're using on the hollowbodies as well as the new Vivian Campbell and Tommy Thayer signatures is different than what they're using on the Inspired by Gibson collection, which is the Kalamazoo headstock.

    • @azt3ca
      @azt3ca 4 роки тому +1

      Hey James, you’re absolutely right.
But what I meant is on the size of the headstocks. The new one is similar in footprint to the older, and my point is that in my opinion they fit better bigger guitars, sheratons, centurys, dots...
Even though I must say that on Les Paul customs I always felt that bigger headstocks go well, maybe because of the binding.
