      Dude, if you wanna do it, read about the guy who fasted for one year and two weeks, the doctors supplemented him with vitamins and minerals, I think it would be wise NOT to go water ONLY for extended periods of time. It's a well-documented case, you might learn a lot from it.

    got hypoglycemia from alcohol, only drank for 1 year and had terrible withdrawls. i was only eating maybe once or twice a day, low cortisol from alcohol, and drinking soda on empty stomachs. went to the doctors and they recommend me nothing but carbs and suger and 5 meals a day, sure enough, it only got worst.
    now since watching your videos 2 months ago, i moved down from 5- 2 meals a day, i eat eggs in the morning with some cheese, and beef or chicken with a large salad for dinner. and i haven't felt better!
    my only issues now are when im trying to go to sleep or i go 12 hours without eating (it was like 3 before) and a couple hours after i eat i start to feel crappy (headache, fatigue/tired, light headed, throabing near temple, and heart rate increase) and
    before it was a battle everyday just to perform simple tasks. thank you!!!

      Boxah thanks man, I'll definitely look into it!!
      Before i rarely ate more then once a day myself, and withdrawls where the last straw on the camels back. Been doing great lately but 3 months ago it was an episode like 6 times a day (atleast), didn't really happen before the withdrawls though.
      Im clean, eating better, and cut out all caffeine and sugers.

      Boxah i fell you! I quit smoking cannabis (i live in a legal state) 3 months ago as it worsens hypoglycemia symptoms, quit alcohol 4 months ago, quit caffeine 3 months ago, and im working on ciggeretes right now (they are definitely the hardest!) i considerd vaping but i didn't think it was going to help, thanks for the tip though! I Cut back from 10 a day to 6 so far, 4 on a good and 8 on a very bad day.
      Just exercise, clean eating, and mental strength here on in. I may pick cannabis back up when im done with this hypoglycemia crap, but for now its all smooth sailing from a high/drunk.
      And again, thanks for the advice on magnesium. Seems like a thing i need more of!

    I have been unpurposely intermiddant fasting due to my work schedule and seem to be developing low blood sugar issues, mostly severe headaches if I wait to long to eat. This video confuses me because it states IF will help with low blood sugar, but it seems that it has caused me these issues. Any wisdom is greatly appreciated. BTW vegan and gluten free 4 years. Also, I take herbs daily for adrenals which were fatigued years ago but now seem fine.

    One meal a day healed my severe hypoglycemia. I was so bad I was fainting, waking up sweaty and shaking. I started intermittent fasting eating for eight hours then fasting for a few days, then six hours, then after a week took the plunge to one meal at 5pm and I feel amazing!!! I'm 43 and I have been suffering severely my entire life. No more blood sugar crashes for the first time. I also take supplements now potassium, magnesium, cod liver oil etc. ❤️ never have I had this much energy in my life. This works!!!!

      Baneful things I don't understand. I seem just the opposite. I just start keto and eat within 4-6 hours window. Prior to that I ate more sugar, and now less. I never have hypoglycemia and now I have hypoglycemia as oppose as 'heal from hypoglycemia'. Well, I cheat a little bit 'after' I have hypoglycemia, I ate a little bit of cookies, because I feel almost fainted.

    I have diagnosed myself with reactive hypoglycemia. My doctor advised eating every 3 hrs, hardly practical! I find that when I wake up in the morning I can go up until lunchtime without eating and will not feel any of the symptoms, it's only when I have my first meal is when the roller coaster ride starts! • @dragonchr15

    two of the biggest pro-sugar youtubers are durianrider and freelee the banana girl. durian rider once uploaded a video where he poured an ENTIRE bag of sugar (organic, of course) on a bowl of cereal and ate it on camera with blueberries and vegan milk. Freelee once ate a massive bowl of pasta (gluten free, of course) on camera.
    They are both athletic have decent physiques (if you're into that sort of thing....) and train a lot, but they look OLD as hell. Their faces are full of wrinkles and they look at least ten years older.
    dr. berg may not have an athletic physique, but just look at how youthful and vibrant he looks in this video. you can decide for yourself which method of eating is superior.

    • @axiomic
      @axiomic 5 років тому +3

      I'm not a huge fan of DurianRider or Freelea, but to be fair to them they are in their 40s and for years have ridden 100's of miles per week in the summer sun.. that will make anyone's faces a little wrinkly and burned. And I think they look ok.

      Freelee is so old looking. She just turned 40. She's going nuts. She's angry so much. She lost her period a few years ago. She looks like skin around bones. If you look at her shoulders, you can see the points on her shoulder bones. Her shoulders are not round they are pointy. I'm surprised she doesn't feel bad or if she does she's hiding it.

    This is so true! I am so glad I am now keto-adapted and am able to do IF with no problem. Not too long ago I was prediabetic, insulin resistant and hypoglycemic and would be an irritable mess if I didn't eat often. It is such a relief now to go hours and hours without the urgency of having to eat to feel well. I will never go back to eating sugar. Not worth it. I am convinced this is the best lifestyle. So many other issues like brain fog and migraines have also disappeared. Thanks for all you do Dr. Berg!

      How many meals are you having per day? Make sure to add enough healthy fats to your meals as that helps you feel full longer (satiated). I don't feel a need to snack anymore. I have 2 meals per day. First one usually consists of fried eggs in butter or bacon fat, bacon, spinach and/or avocado and the second one is usually a large salad with either romaine lettuce or kale, boiled eggs, avocado, cucumbers, black olives, banana peppers, bacon bits, hemp seeds and my own dressing with basically salt, pepper, olive oil and apple cider vinegar or lemon. The rest of the time I drink water, but only when I'm thirsty. Hope that helps!

    • @MorganaDevina
      @MorganaDevina 7 років тому +8

      You could try eating three times a day, or have boiled eggs or avocado with you. There is a big difference in eating real food as a snack and bad food! It can take time for your body and mind to get used to a keto diet. For some people intermittent fasting can be a bad thing if you have adrenal issues! Best of luck

    Dr Berg, I usually feel nauseous and fainty when I go hungry. I'm trying IF and drink a little Himalayan salt water on my fasting window and quickly feel better of the nausea and faintness, and it tastes good to me. I read it stops you from being salt and electrolytes depleted and makes you feel better. It's helping me stick to IF. What would you say about that?

    When ever I start getting my symptoms I always reach for carbs, either fries or chips and I instantly feel so much better. My husband doesn't believe I have hypoglycemia even though my doctor already said I did. I just had my first baby and I am having a really hard time losing the last 15 pounds. Everyone I have talked to says try intermittent fasting and that it would make me feel better, while giving me more energy. I am so nervous because fasting scares me. I have passed out before, I have had really bad sweats and shakiness from this. I really need to cut the carbs out of my diet and start repairing this.

    This thing called intermittent fasting should be called the right way of eating. I heard of these principles from my Yoga master in India. At that time the fad in the West was eat small portions throughout the day. My trainer in US, even today, swears by this technique. Yoga completely disagrees with eating small portions throughout the day and I guess that's "bad advise" as well. Thanks for these videos.

    I took myself off sugar 4 years ago. My only problem with it now is starburst. But after taking myself off of sugar, I am able to do IF on the 5/2 schedule. It seems to work best with my body. It takes some time, but you can do it. I was in denial and refused to listen to my body's signs that I was having TOO many carbs and WAY too much sugar. I my blood sugar always spiked tremendously, I never did get headaches. But I would get severe abdominal pains, confusion, shaking, fluctuating body temperature with hot and cold sweats. The ICU DR's. 'diagnosed' me with pre-type 2 diabetes. After two years of hell. I finally started paying attention, I also got sick of the ER in my town as, even being in a wheelchair, they treated me like a drug addict. I stopped having sugars, started cutting back on the carbs and obviously stopped consuming alcohol completely.
    I recently got my A1C taken, it is 5. I don't have pre-type 2. I don't even think I have hypoglycemia anymore. In fact, it's exactly like you said in this video. I don't feel hungry until the afternoon, then dinner. I still have problems snaking in between though.

    Dr. Berg you always seem to deliver and have a video for all our questions. Had a bit of a scare today, I'm doing intermittent fasting/OMAD (18-24 hours fasting daily) and last night I had a good nutrient dense salad and total carbs was around 23 and total calories for the day around 1000, I am on a weight loss / healing journey and started IF about 3 weeks ago.
    I walk for 30 min at work daily and check my blood sugar after exercising (I'm not diabetic but use the meter as a tool to obtain knowledge about the food I eat). Today after exercising my blood sugar dropped to 66, then 59, then I forced my self to eat because I got scared. I even ate a Jolly Rancher chewy candy after my small meal because it only got up to 73, I haven't had sugar like that for over a month! The lowest I've seen it go was 70 and that was after shoveling snow for 15 or 20 minutes, I was wondering why all this happens. Is it just due to exercising too hard for too long? I'm assuming my glycogen stores were used up. Your videos are priceless and I appreciate all your knowledge and contributions.

    how long does one have to fast to get rid of the sugar that is in the body. I mean, to correct hypoglycemia..

    • @ChrisCastrejon
      @ChrisCastrejon 6 років тому +14

      it takes about 6-8 hours (depending on your body and diet of course) for the body to start metabolizing your glycogen (the energy (glucose storage) so i'd say about 10 hours for your body to get rid of all sugar but you will probably experience signs of hypoglycemia, since your body is finishing the last of its energy, you need to gradually increase fast time to lower symptoms and eventually rid your body of hypoglycemia (im not an expert this is just what i've gathered from researching the topic for a few days)

    Fantastic advice ! My dips of sugar used to happen when I was 19 and I would always feel better after quickly stuffing my face with something. Never thought anything of it as there were periods that it didn't happen so much. I also have PCOS which I've been reading that over time it can give you insulin resistance (I'm 38 now). Anyway it all got a bit confusing and I was tested for diabetes which came up negative. Back to searching Google and was quickly directed to having Hypoglycemia with putting in my symptoms. There is a lot of pages that are very vague and like you said they say you should have a sugary drink or tablet at hand if you feel a low. This I felt was not curing the problem and I also got a fear of leaving the house unless I had a croissant in my bag or at least being near a food shop incase of passing out (I had a real bad one recently that did scare me) ! Long story short I've been having them a lot lately but I thought it was strange that I didn't crave sugar it's always the cheese, chicken or tuna I'd reach for as my quick snack to get me back to normal. So glad I have found your vids..from someone that was going completely mad ! I will update to tell you how I get on. THANK YOU !

What I am trying to do is reduce the amount of stored sugars in the liver as I am type 2. What occurs when I fast, sleep for 8 hours and even exercise, is my liver releases too much glucose and my blood sugars rise until I eat, then and only then does my pancreas kick in and lower blood sugars plus, if I eat in an 8 hour window then reduce it to 4 hours, i will not be able to eat 2000 kCal daily simply because I cannot eat my normal 7 - 10 cups raw green veggie daily as there is simply not enough space in my stomach to eat that much. I don't know ur age, but im 51, prediabetic, but since following Dr. B advice, I work out 1 time a week, walk an have recovery time. My blood sugars are getting better because I used to do sugar 100% all day everyday. Now its down to 5%, the cravings for sweets are gone. I too get the things you mentioned. I had menopusal symptoms, they are diminishing. I am the adrenal body type, and take the adrenal night formula. Take the body type quiz. Good Luck! 😊

I've been building up the intermittent fasting and little or no sugar for months now , but recently tried to make it till 4.00pm . I wasn't hungry but I felt dreadful.
    I've gone back to breakfast at 11.00am for the moment and lunch , salad, protein and my homemade grain less crackers . I eat my evening meal between 7.00pm and 8.00pm . I hope I can fast a bit longer in time without messing up my blood sugar. K

    Was diagnosed w/ PCOS 20+ years ago and have suffered with weight gain, painful periods AND severe hypoglycemia since. I had to eat every 2-3 hours while I was awake. I'd wake up most mornings already feeling like I had low blood sugar. Happy to share that I'm 3 weeks into keto and already down a pant size! I also for the first time in years was able to go 16 hours IF one day and 18 hours IF the next! UNBELIEVABLE! I had zero negative side effects. I had coffee with a splash of cream only in the mornings, but found when I woke I wasn't hungry. I waited until I felt hungry as a test and was able to do just 2 meals the last couple days. Definitely a Keto fan and I'm so happy to have found a way of eating that will help put my body into healthy homeostasis. Yay!

Every doctor has said that I can’t be this way if I’m not diabetic and taking insulin. Ummmm, it’s my body, I’m pretty sure I know what it is doing…. I have been a big carb eater because that is the one thing that holds my sugar. I even have to wake up during the middle of the night to eat so I don’t crash. I’ve been wanting to do this for years but didn’t know how and you just nailed it. Thank you soooooo much you have just given me so much hope.

      I personally haven't tried keto however what you just described I have experienced. Doing 16:8 fasting helped me. I naturally started gravitating towards a healthier eating habit. My personal opinion is some folks aren't meant to be totally carb free. I try not to indulge in cookies, cakes, pies, and drinks. But bread and other just natural carbs is something i refuse to get rid of. The first day or so I had the headaches and feeling weak, but your body will literally kick on its own energy source which is stored fat. An average day for me is fasting from 7pm to 11Am the next day. Now for me personally i go to the gym and do 40 min workouts. 20 min weights or strength and 20 min cardio. Nothing drastic at all. You dont have to workout if you can't but this is what i do. So i usually dont get to eat until 12. But sticking to the basic 16:8 with no workouts and eating at 11am will work. But for me when i workout even for a short time it benefits my overall mood and also helps burn extra fat since i'm in that fasted stated already. I'm no expert but I lost 16lbs between November of 2019 and March/April 2020. Slow progress but it still worked. For lunch i typically ate a salad. A full salad at that and a yogurt parfait. But what i have found lately is that you dont have to restrict yourself to only salads. Just incorporate more veggies and fruits and less cakes, sodas, and junk. Your body will naturally crave good food. Also you will pay more attention to how you feel after eating certain things. That alone will make you choose better. You can still have a snack every now and then but eating ice cream and junk every single day is bound to make you feel like crap. It's a process tbh.

    This explains exactly how i got to easily fast and lose weight. I didn't know about dr berg at the time and just happened to try keto by first getting rid of sugar, then most of the carbs, then got rid of all carbs at about 1 month, and on second month i just eat a good meal (like a steak with veggies and good amount of fat) about 1hr before bed (so i can sleep). thats it 24 hrs between meals and I lost 40 lbs in two months and i DO NOT FEEL HUNGRY OR CRAVE SNACKS AT ALL. I go to work in a busy steak restaurant and work a 10hr shift jamming like a rockstar but on a completely empty stomach and I feel great---I never ever would have thought that was possible, but i do it every day now. when i get down to target weight of 175 or 180, i may have to adjust my intake but I will see when i see.

    I've never had much knowledge on why I had all those symptoms and a doctor told me if I ever feel that way eat chocolate drink a coca-cola. Protein is like the most opposite of what I have heard, it's very interesting that if I go to long without eating I'd run to something sweet and yes feel better but I still have it. Now I eat healthy I don't do any junk food, processed food, shelf food unless it's grains and beans. I started intermittent fasting and all of a sudden I started feeling the anxiousness and the jittery shakynes. It's an awful feeling. Could you give sum more examples on fats and better proteins please and would having a spoonful of cold organic coconut oil be one of the good fats? Thank you I just watched three of your videos on glycemia.

Once I woke up it nornalized above 4mmol/L. This hapened 3 times during the night. It didn't even show into the daily graph. Ketons are within 1.5-4 range or go a bit higher. Is this ok or the fast should be broken?

    Yikes, so this is happening to me. Today is my first day trying intermittent fasting. I waited until 11:30am to eat my first meal, after exercising. By 3:50p I was feeling shaky. Tested by blood sugar and it was at 100 mg/dL, which is supposed to be normal, yet I feel hypoglycemic. The first and only meal so far was clean (baked salmon, kale and broccoli, plus 4-5 cashew nuts). BTW, today is the first time I also tested my blood sugar, and it was ~117 mg/dL in the morning, which was a bit alarming.
