    I hate to say it, but some of these mechanics will tell you that they have changed these parts, but will not have done the work, they only clean up the area with parts cleaner spray and wipe it down with shop rags. Always ask for your old parts with the new part box, never trust the same shop that ripped you off before. As an experienced loser myself, your axle can get rounded out over time where the king pin bushing presses in and the only solution is to replace the axle and king pin assembly or weld the axle king pin hole and then drill out the weld to the king pin bushing size. You saw Bender move that wheel at least a quarter of an inch top to bottom but these guys are saying it is moving less than a finger nail thickness, do you believe your own eyes or a bunch of guys that do not sound confident in their explanation! As for the spring, the symbol on the spring was a flat spot symbol while the other was a round spot symbol, they sold you the wrong spring, that is why the replacement spring had a round spot like the passenger side!!!! Do not let your video evidence go to waste, tell them you got it on camera and you will take them to court, they owe you pain and suffering to because you had to rework that job because of their mistake!!!

      TLG definitely put the new ones on. I was there watching them take the old ones out and put the new ones in. TLG is big company and they definitely wouldn’t do something like that. I know some smaller shops would do that for sure but not TLG. I took it to two more shops and they all said that kingpins are good. Something looks like it’s moving there but it’s not kingpins.

    The way to check king pin bushings is jack up the truck close to the tire with the tire about an inch off the ground then take a tire iron and check for slack by lifting up and down for slack. My peterbilt truck has 677,000 miles on the highway and there is absolutely no slack in the king pins. I saw the slack in the beginning of the video. Sometimes a shop will only change the king pin bushings and not the pins and bushings?

  • @curtisswaim9337

    I used to work as a driver for a trucking company and we bought 5 international tractors and after about 100,-- miles all of them would want to dive for the ditch if you took your hands off the steering wheel. The shop aligned them several times and checked the front end components and they still did it. Finally i came in off the road and the head mechanic asked me if i would take one up to a big truck shop in Appleton Wisconsin that said they would fix it. I drove it up there and they test drove it and said that all the rear shackle bushings were bad. They told me to go take a long lunch and they would have it fixed in about 4 hours. When i got back they said they just took it out for a test drive to see how it drove. It came back and mechanic said it was ok now. I left to take it back to the yard and it drove like a dream. Let go of the steering wheel and it went straight down the road. Rear axel shackel bushing replacement fixed the problem.

    I was wondering what the outcome was after you changed the front springs. Problems like this are so frustrating, What is strange is after you the had the one shop do the old school alignment it was better for some time. I was an auto mechanic for 45 years, I think I would adjust the rear track on the axles like Bender said. easy way to check yourself is the measure from the from of the rim on the front drive axle to the front of the rim on the drive right behind it and see if it is the same or very close to it. You can also check the front to rear wheel base much the same from from driver side steer tire to the front drive tire on same side and see if any thing does not measure out right And look at the universal joints in the steering shaft to see if they are loose. I like your no B S way of thinking, Telling it like it is.

    Should put the camera on the steering shaft so you can see it while you turn the steering wheel. You can do the remote view with the cell phone. Need to get the two drive axles parallel and straight. The kingpins: truck needs to be lifted so wheel is just off the ground, crow bar under the tire and piece of 2x4 to pry up and down. Lots of king pins replaced on vintage buses on UA-cam bus grease monkey.

    A semi "crab walks" when its rear wheels are not properly aligned with the front wheels, causing the truck to move diagonally instead of straight forward, similar to how a crab moves sideways due to the unique joint structure in its legs; this misalignment can be caused by worn suspension components or damage to the rear axle, resulting in uneven tire wear and poor handling. maybe they should put you semi on a dynamometer to see if it would do that crab walk

    Oh you bobtailed to Houston. I'd have thought you'd get a load back down there and get paid for the trip, but what do I know ! Oh, is your trailer still at ThermoKing ? Maybe that's it ? I don't know how current your videos are. But anyway--remember me saying for the last month, that I felt rearend alignment ? And I asked about those torque and whatever you call the side to side ones, and as you said, you had replaced them already but are going to again. I hope you do one thing at a time so we know what it was. My money's still on the rearends being out of alignment, and the Houston guy confirmed that they are. And I was watching the fog line out the passenger window as you were sawing back and forth on the wheel, and the truck was moving left and right a little bit. Plus I've been paying attention to your wheel movements when you're on the camera over your left shoulder ever since you've been having this problem, and your wheel movement is very minimal when you're just driving on dry pavement. As I've said, shit like this drives me batshit crazy until I figure it out ! Oh, and you and I are alike in the wsy we get frustrated and ready to say "fuck it, I'm done with you" until we calm down and realize we really like what we have, and go back to fixing it. Same with women 😮! I'll be standing by for the answer to this problem !!

    I think the steering box is part of the problem and those king pins should not have play at all I think Bendin is right

    the front drive axle needs to be lined with the front steer axle before you line the two rear axles.

    • @OTRBandit
      @OTRBandit  4 дні тому

      Strangers thing about this program is that I’ve never had any tire wear. Not in front or rear. I don’t think it’s the kingpins. I had Freightliner check it out and they said that they are good. I’m thinking it’s my gearbox even though I replaced it this past summer.

    I work on my own vehicle i fooud out somtime these thives can over torque or under torque your nuts and bolts because they are to lazy to go for the torque wrench, they use the impact instead which can over tighten bolts and stretch them out Vibrations, wear and tear and other external factors will eventually take their toll and cause the screw to lose its grip on the materia.

      @ I worked a safety lane where I was frequently putting our company trucks out of service for play in king pins. They sent in a factory rep to watch me inspect king pins. I was instructed to jack up the wheel off the ground then grease it properly then check the king pins. Mysteriously I didn’t find play in our trucks again. Problem solved. I hope you find your issue soon.

      @ I think I would trade at this point as it sounds like you have done every possible thing to correct it. It is a beautiful truck. I’m sure it would be missed but the drifting may get you in trouble one day? I can imagine that it would be difficult to part with as you and this truck have seen a lot of highway together. Nothing is forever though, good luck with your next move.

They don’t make stuff like they used to as you are well aware of!…..the bastards! Hate to see you get rid of the blue beast but there comes a point where you have to stop throwing money at it.
