    How to play Cymbals 101, with counting beats!
    There are many different variations you can do. This is just how EJ plays it to our drum (3-star). VJ and other members will play cymbals differently as well.
    VJ - I may have missed some counts in the beats. EJ does soft hits in between for some sections. EJ made it hard to edit. Thanks EJ.

    How do you play the drum

      @5elementsld  5 років тому

      Here is a video of our style (ua-cam.com/video/WvsvkZ1d-ww/v-deo.html).
      There are many other styles of lion dance drumming. Ours is more Futsan 3-star. Another common one is Hoksan 7-star drumming.

      Hello Jayson!
      We use the very traditional 3-star drum with a mix of 7-star in our "chang gu" segment. Malaysia and competition lion dance nowadays is full 7-star style!

    how do you play the bloody cymbals? thats not the way to play it noob, wanna see how the right way to play? go watch Malaysian lion dance

    • @5elementsld
      @5elementsld  6 років тому +4

      There are different play styles for cymbals depending on the type of lion dance you do as well as your team's preference. Malaysian lion dance, mainly speaking about the Hoksan style, does have a distinct beat, compared to many other lion dance styles (7-star vs 3/5-star drums). Just because a team has a different style does not mean that it is incorrect. One can also say Hoksan is more "modern" as it developed later than other styles.
      Once you experience and open yourself to the different styles of lion dance, you will see not only their differences, but also the many similarities they have in terms of music, steps, and beliefs. In the end, we all have the same goal of promoting and continuing this art we are passionate about.
