How can you have a video like this without Robert Pollard?
this
exactly my thoughts! GBV!
Robert Pollard should be on your list.
Good shout out! He's got a prolific output for sure.
Everyone who considers themselves a music enthusiast or a music lover should absolute know and check out the music and story of Fela Kuti! He is legend
Robert Pollard has released 22 solo album & roughly 15 EP's, Plus 50 albums of collaborations, plus 40 albums, 19 EP's, & 2 live albums as Guided by Voices, plus many many unofficial releases. Nearly 150 official releases.
Then there is British electronic musician Bryn Jones who worked as Muslimgauze who released 128 albums and 39 EP's.
Another honorable mention could be Phyllomedusa, a frog-themed one-man band with easily over 300 releases on Bandcamp. Fair warning, it's mostly harsh noise / goregrind & possibly the loudest music ever published.
Had a listen, very interesting... thanks for the rec
When "scrobbling" was a thing, I used to have WinAmp running 24/7, constantly playing music... I'll be honest, I'd say it was like a 70/30 split on cataloguing/"internet cool points" where I was genuinely interested in numbers, and charts, and diagrams... _but, with a little bit of "look at how cool and obscure this guys music taste is"._
Which is why... from reading the above, you won't be surprised to find that Merzbow is my "most listened to" artist.
Wont lie to you, not a fan of tons of it, despite listening to a ton of it. Really genuinely like a lot of his collabs though.
I'm still a paying user of Last_fm
Steven Wilson has at least 60 albums (without mentionning EPs, Lives, etc.) through his various projects. Not bad for a 50 yo guy !
Omar Rodríguez-López of Mars Volta
R. Stevie Moore
Need to mention the residents. Wiki says 133 albums (including live and eps) but that’s not including the bootlegs.
how about john zorn? he has around 300 releases which explores every avenue of music you can think of, to avant jazz, grindcore, modern classical, surf rock, free improv, with multiple collabs including mike patton, yamantaka eye, fred frith and more. very prolific artist
Definitely John Zorn. Wikipedia lists him at around 400 albums, which I think includes albums he composed but did not perform on.
You're forgetting English singer/multi-instrumentalist Bill Nelson who, as a solo artist since 1971 (not counting his albums with the band Be-Bop Deluxe in the 70s) has almost 160 albums to his name to date!
Also notably absent is the German electronic music group Tangerine Dream, who since their first album recorded in 1969 have made over three hundred albums, including live albums with previously unreleased compositions and film soundtracks.
Thanks for mentioning these! Great additions
Bull of Heaven would make another great video. They probably have the the "longest" discography as they have songs on albums that are basically in infinite length. Their 310 album: ΩΣPx0(2^18×5^18)p*k*k*k is famously 3.343 quindecillion years long which is obviously a seriously impressive feat. They are more of an art experiment than a band but they have over 500 albums some of which have good more standard music compositions like 299: Self-Traitor, I Do Bring the Spider Love.
I Believe the largest in hip-hop is moka only.. I don’t know how many it is now but it hit 100 albums eight years ago
I'm half way through the video and I am enjoying it, but I have to say the "wow" sound effect is making me want to push a screwdriver into my ear.
3:01 This is the funniest shit I've heard all day 😏
Also, regarding Buckethead. The list is insane. A YT channel called Natternet has been uploading Buckethead's Pikes since #300 or so and it around 660. He also has 20 or 30 regular albums before that. He was on Chinese Democracy and released several LPs with Praxis, Travis Dickerson and Viggo Mortensen, 1 album with Les Claypool, and has featured on several movie and video game soundtracks. There are others that I can't recall at the moment. I would guess the total number of albums is around 750 - 800 or so, with at least 700 being albums on which is was the main guitarist.
You also mention that the Pikes are all well thought out compositions. Many of them are, but not all, especially the later ones. As they go into the 400s they definitely turn more into improv jams.
Todd Rundgren has something like 40 albums, be it under his own name or under the name of his band Utopia.
R. Stevie Moore has been a prolific writer with tons of albums since the seventies
charles hamilton makes like a album a week.
It's hard to keep track of his output, as most of it is just dumped into a googledrive... or now a days uploaded to his various youtube channels. But if you look into it he has a crazy amount. A lot of it very good too, just of very drastically varying quality due to mental illness.
I just had to click when I saw king gizz
It's not 1,000+ but I'd like to bring up Wesley Willis and his output of around 50 albums. Some people may not take his music seriously but he is one of the most important figures in outsider art. Most of his music was completely self published in the 80's and 90's and possibly would have been lost to time if it weren't for Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedys. Rock over London, rock on Chicago!
John Zorn?!
Guinness world records decides who get the record by whoever pays them for it. i wouldn't use anything from them as an authority on anything.
Sparks.
There's myself I have about 300 albums
Nice. Are they good?
You won't regret listening to Fela Kuti
Melvins, where are they?
Great vid really enjoyed it. Viper is a menace.
guten morgen guten morgen, guten morgen sonnenschein. diese nacht blieb dir verborgen, doch du darfst nicht traurig sein
Check out Muslimgauze as well, something like 128 albums including posthumous stuff. Also, can't believe you've never heard of Fela! One of the greatest of all time. Check out Expensive Shit, Zombie, Beasts of No Nation and Coffin For Head of State
I enjoy seeing discographies as well. Something about seeing their progression.
Buckethead
Grateful Dead
id say avg is somewhere around like 10, 15, something like that
an album roughly like every couple of years.
That must be David Murray. Or if you include session musicians, Steve Gadd.
Really!? at 15:18, i mean if you just focus on most of his poular songs then yes they do mostly consist on just long guitar solos, but i've listened to his whole catalogue and trust me his music has way more musical variety and a lot of genres and styles with a unique and interesting take on than just long solos, even more so if you include his collabs.
Buckethead, in my opinion, is the most important rock guitarist since Hendrix & EVH. His broad, exceptional compositional vision for the guitar and discography is unrivaled. For those newbies who are “lost without a map” when approaching his music, I have compiled many of his best melodic rock, mellow, and Gilmour influenced works in the following PLAYLISTS:

i feel like matt foley makes joke-y songs (ive seen his songs about countries) so i feel like similarly to noise music it would take less effort to make
Willie Nelson & Johnny Cash both have tons of albums also.
About the first 15 seconds, I'm doin just the same.
0:03
Wow
bro where’s gbv
Also Jandek.
DRU THE DRIFTER
RXkNephew and lil B
CASIOPEA i think has a lot of albums but idk
great and interesting video, but the WOW sound effect played when the album count comes on the screen is a little bit too much, mix it up next time or do not use at all
Thanks for the tip! Don't think I'll use it in future vids
coL has 49 Albums. Side-Note: Why are you so interested in rushing thru an artist's catalog? What happened to taking the time to let the work sink in?
Muslimgauze - he's been dead for a quarter of a century and he's still putting stuff out. Nuts.
Chur bo.
Frank zappa is a good one. He doesnt have 1000 but surely has good ones
Money Boy/MBeezy/YSL Know Plug
Take a look at Sun Ra...
He's in the thumbnail! Only found out about him after the vid... looks like he has a lot of albums too!
Quality is all that matter to me. Quantity is a statistic. Band So & So released a gazillion records? So what? What’s one of their songs? Is it memorable? Do I want to listen to it again? Unless something from these hours of material is going to stick in my memory somehow it seems wasteful and cheapens the artist’s brand. Buckethead might be a crazy skilled player but recording and releasing everything you do is wasteful. If the artist can’t even be bothered to curate their own work why should I take on that burden as a listener?
That "wow" is annoying
You'll cowards
tee hee
Good lord! You talk too much!!!! No wonder your camera ran out of memory.
