Thanks for the Video. I lived in Salina from 2007 to July of 2023. I Loved Living in Salina, Hope to visit it One day Again My best friends are still there
About all I remember of Salina was staying with my grandparents, in a quonset hut on the old Schilling Air Force base, near where US 40 and 81 got together. No I-70 or 35W (as 135 was then known) yet.
Those are apt homes now lol

My parents lived there 1970-2005. I consider Salina home even though I grew up in Wichita.

Low key feel like living in a small town now as I get older haha
Admittedly, many people who live in big cities, would think of Salina as a "small town".
But I certainly don't think that a population of 46,000+ rates as a "small town".
Heck, the town where I attended school... and still think of as my "hometown", even though I grew up on a farm 10 miles from that town...has never had a population of over 300.
A fine tour of a fascinating town. I am surprised to see no numbered highway ever in this video. Not even K-140 or K-143 penetrate town at all, and there are no county highways. Yet Salina has plenty to offer especially on Iron Avenue and Santa Fe Street. Santa Fe has a number of pedestrian-bridge-like structures and I cannot figure out what they are or what their purpose is, since they don’t have any stairs for access. It also has some wonderful architecture and street art. My hunch is that Iron is the old US 40 and Santa Fe the old US 81 that has now been bypassed three times: by 9th Street, Broadway Boulevard, and now the I-135 route that is the modern concurrency of US 81.
Ninth Street is the original US-81...or so I have been told for the past 60 years.
As for the original route of US-40 through/or around Salina, I have heard many versions. So I don't know what is the correct route it originally took.
I found it amusing that the video starts with the words "Salina, Ks Downtown"...yet you are actually nearly 3 miles from downtown.
You are closer to the south city limit (2.5 miles) of Salina, than you are to downtown.
Which is more beautiful. Salina or witchita?

Spent a lot of time there, it doesn’t get much more boring or uglier, than Salina,KS. Unless it’s the Wichita area.
I have lived in several places that were much more boring and "ugly", than Salina.
