So all he could have done was check, "No" and he would have gotten one? This is ridiculous. Shouldn't an authority be screening instead of this stupid self evaluation system? It's like at the DMV where they ask for your height. I could be 5'5 and put 5'11 and that would be on my drivers license. This is what I mean when I always say how broken our systems are and how easily it is to fix them with "no duh" solutions that is transparent to the general public but they never get addressed. In other countries, once something is ID'd as broken it is almost immediately fixed like in most things in Germany and Switzerland.

If the never-ending rise in mass shootings isn't alarming enough, what's even more concerning is the rise in military and police background shooters. I can't imagine the news decades from now given the rate at which these senseless shootings have multiplied over the years. Just can't understand what it is that compels these people to do these shootings.
Many ppl harbor a lot of hate in their hearts. Many not able to handle rejection. Still a lot grow up with a sense of entitlement. It’s their feelings of rejection, suppressed anger and hate causes to be led by demonic forces to carry out such acts. At the same time, many ppl struggle with undiagnosed mental illness as children. The parents claims that they don’t desire their child to be labeled. So they ignore the warning signs n not get help for their child who is suffering. Hey I’ve seen it now a retired teacher. I taught special education for most of my career. But have had the opportunity to teach general education as well. Yes I saw a few students struggling with mental issues. Bring it to the parents attention, most times nothing gets done. By the time it’s checked, it’s too late. Once the child reaches 18 years old there in really nothing a parent can do now. One has to leave it to the Lord n allow Him to intervene. If you not a praying parent, then I don’t know what else to say to you. Cuz alot of these future mass shooters can be prevented as much as possible, if parents pay attention to their children n don’t ignore the warning signs that something is wrong with your child. We got to train our children right. Don’t think alot of the things they do which you know is wrong, don’t condone it or laugh at it, correct it! We can prevent so much of this happening. Remember children are the product of their environment. It’s where they begin that determines the outcome of their lives. If as a parent you’ve done your job n your child acts a fool in society, don’t blame yourself, they can also be influenced by the environment. At the same time, the values n prayers instilled in them will make a difference. My condolences to the families of the tragic loss of lives.

Our military is failing. They're supposed to train soldiers to love and defend their country. We have soldiers not getting the help they need and others shooting up civilians.

A suppressed rifle is still loud enough to damage hearing. It’s absolutely nothing like a “silencer” shown in the movies, and does nothing to alter it’s accuracy or effectiveness.
I’m all for common sense reform. However, if someone is pushing for bills to be passed, I’d expect them to at least be knowledgeable on the subject of the bill. The “assault weapon bans” that have been proposed in recent years classify weapons based on cosmetic characteristics rather than function. That’s not common sense. A bill not based on facts will never get enough votes to be passed.
Or, like I said, maybe they could enforce the laws we already have in place that could have stopped this shooting from happening. The authorities had the warnings and enough evidence to lawfully confiscate Card’s firearms two months ago… but they didn’t even start the process because he wasn’t home when they knocked and they gave up. If the current laws designed to prevent this weren’t followed, what makes you think new ones will be?

The unenforced gun laws we already have could reduce nearly all of these incidents as well as the gang violence that makes up most of the homicides in this country. The narrative seems to be ignoring the laws we already have in favor of new, less effective laws with no viable enforcement strategy.

That is why in this very news report, it is stated that because the suspect did not meet VERY strict, federally enforced, regulatory criteria, he was denied the purchase of one. Honestly idk why it was reported this way. The headline should have read, "law that helps prevent violent, suspicious people from getting upgraded weapons works"

@@major3477 I think the issue was he already had it. No one has said he recently purchased any firearms. The real problem is that a Federal Military Hospital knew he was admitted for mental observation. His unit commanders knew as well. I am sure paperwork had to be filled out for pay or withholding pay becasue he got "transferred" to a mental facility.
And again, what about the NY State Troopers. A supposed top flight law enforcement agency in NY, entrusted with issuing and re-certifying pistol permits, and administering the background checks for all firearms and ammunition sales in NY under the "vastly improved" Concealed Carry Improvement Act. Why didn't they do some reciprocal law enforcement? Shades of 9/11!

This is a pre-screen application. Basically because he answered honestly, the gun store owner told him he wouldn’t be approved and saved him the background check fee. If the guy had lied, then it would have gone to an FBI background check and it would have gotten rejected that way. Either way, he wasn’t eligible.

It's not so much the Dems vs Reps but rather rich vs poor. That is the real issue. A lot of younger people don't associate with parties at all. It's an outdated system. Our economy is crashing (by design). People are unhealthy, unhappy and looking for a for-profit "health care" system to help them. If they can even afford it. And weapons of war and the NRA are not helping. But they aren't the only issues. It's systemic.

Adding a supressor can make a gun less deadly too. You don't know and I'm not 100% sure, but the ammunition needs to be less velocity and the component adds weight to the end of the barrel (that's where the bullets come out). So this makes the weapon more cumbersome, easier to see, and less energy potential. Just know that handguns also shoot bullets, rifles aren't special.

not exactly, inside the supressor theres less air resistance so there is potental to gain a little velocity but the difference is negligable, also depends on what kind of ammo is being used, subsonic rounds arent as effective but i doubt thats what he was using
as if the silencer would have had any impact on the outcome... get real. A silencer/suppressor on a 308 would have knocked the 170 decibels down to maybe 150 which will still cause hearing damage if w/o ear protection... and still as loud as a 9mm.

the suppressors arrive at the shop always. that form is not enough. you still have to wait a few months AFTER the ATF form is submitted, sometimes one full year before YOU can take it from the shop! its like a lay away. he could NOT leave with it right away. and suppressors dont magically just work perfect. he had a few failures which means the suppressor would've probably caused more failures on his rifle. you have to do some modifications on you host firearm for it to run perfectly smooth. in this actual case his negligence on the AR he used, if he had a suppressor more people would've probably NOT have died. @@mad-mullah3117

In America, we've had 250 years' worth of having guns, why doesn't everyone carry them for their own protection. Also protect their family, friends, and strangers? If you can go into a common store and purchase something even with an application than it is nonchalant. You can’t just buy pharmaceuticals. You can’t even just buy a car. Let alone a weapon enhancement designed to better help a civilian kill. Silencers have no other purpose in civilian life. PS a tax stamp is inconsequential here. You can't. I've been trying to get 30 cal can for a while and I have a 1000% clean record.. There are so many hoops, much more than what they say here. You cannot just lie on the application and get one handed to you. You fill out the app, the app will then get sent off to the FBI/ATF and they will check you for lies. Then you need an expensive tax stamp on top of that. Than your whole process will take about a year..even if that guy lied on the app you wouldnt get one that very day and the FBI/ATF would have caught his lie anyways..You'd want a suppressor if you do a lot of target shooting or hunting where noise is a concern. In NC we can hunt with one! Makes a big difference on your ears, trust me. lol.
