I really recommend to use netherrack or sandstone for the chess board pattern, because you can mine them with pickaxe so you dont have to be afraid of breaking the soulsand
For all the people who dont know how to mine all the obsidian: go to the end. Mine the obsidian towers. Need more? Build end crystalls, defeat the dragon and mine the obsidian again.

For everyone building this farm in 1.19, you’ve probably noticed 2 problems. 1. The farms grinds skeletons way more than it does ghasts. 2. Endermen are removing your wither roses. There’s fixes for this in 1.19. 1. As @whitehack 247 mentioned, you can skeleton proof the farm by replacing the middle layer of the 3 wide platforms with a light block. Any frog light block, sea lanterns, glowstone or shroomlight should work. What’s important is to brighten up the farm because the skeletons are spawning because it’s too dark. 2. I figured out how to endermen proof the farm. What you do is instead of soul sand and wither roses, use mud and sweet berries to kill the ghasts. In addition to that, place water on top of the exposed hoppers. Endermen can pick up mud, but not while sweet berries are planted on them and they’ll take damage from the sweet berries, and they can’t pick up the sweet berries themselves. They’ll also take damage from the water and instantly teleport away.
I did that and the skeletons don't spawn anymore thanks for that! But with the berries the ghasts don't die in the 4 corners do you know how to fix this?
Noted elsewhere, but as Mumbo Jumbo just demonstrated, you can build a ghast farm without wither roses, just use a smaller kill chamber (I tested with 8x7) so the ghasts "suffocate" in the smaller space. Drop rates seemed normal with a 10 min. AFK test

Saw this concept a while ago, been working on my own design, this simplifies alot of things I was over looking. Thanks! Also, with some minor modifications to the overworld side, should be easy enough to have a looting mode for more drops, or ghast heads, if you have the data pack.. (obviously a looting mode would require 2 players, but would be worth it) great video.
Farm works in 1.19.4, but it should be borne in mind that ghasts do not spawn on light blocks. Below is the history of my farm changes: 614 gunpowder + 305 tears/h -> 2 layers with line of light block on center of platform 832 gunpowder + 428 tears/h -> 5 layers, but 3 last with light block platform(froglight) -> ghast can spawn only on portal blocks 904 gunpowder + 462 tears/h -> replaced light blocks on 1 platform with build blocks, except for the center line 1368 gunpowder + 679 tears/h -> did the same for 2 froglight layers and replaced the light blocks for the upper layer, as in the scheme below 1482 gunpowder + 786 tears/h -> fix all 5 layers, as in the scheme below ▧ - portal block (blocks of obsidian match corner light blocks) ▩ - light block (froglight) ▢ - build block (iron) ▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧▧ ▩▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▩ ▩▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▩▢▢▢▢▢▢▩▢▢▢▢▢▢▩ ▩▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▩ I think the light block can be reduced to 1 per platform, but I'm too lazy to test
I built this and was wondering why it wasn’t working and then today 3 months after building it I realize a portal for the ghasts spawned somewhere else and I was met with a big surprise of over 100 hundred ghasts in the overworld
To those trying to make it in 1.21: I've done it and it works for me, the problem you get with the boat going through the portal is easy to fix, you just do it the other way around, instead of placing the boat with the chickens in the overworld, you do it in the nether! I'll tell ya what I did: 1. Deactivated one portal in the nether 2. Placed the boat and got the chickens in 3. Activated it again and went through it to check it's on the right place 4. Do the rest normally Hope it helps! If you need help comment about it and I'll see if I can help :)
For those who want to build a ghast farm for a server, there’s a design which works. I’ll briefly summarize how to build it. 1) Make a large platform. It can be however large you want, but 40x70 blocks is good. It can be any block. 2) Make a hopper minecart rail going all through this platform. It’s good to have 2 hopper minecarts since just 1 might be too slow. Make sure this rail loops, as it doesn’t require a fancy drop off system. Put some hoppers under the rails where you would like the drops to go, anywhere on the edges preferably. 4) Place soul sand on top of the rails, and make it the same size as your hopper minecart platform. The soul sand should be right above your minecart rail. 5) Place torches on the soul sand platform in a checker pattern. Start in one of the corners and place another torch 4 blocks to the left and right of it, Repeat this until there are torches everywhere, each one 4 blocks away from the other. (don’t spam them.) 6) Place a wither rose next to each torch. Don’t spam these either, otherwise ghosts will not spawn. 7) Place a glass ring around the soul sand. Start by going out from the edge 3 blocks and going up 2 blocks. Now build a glass ring going around the soul sand platform, staying 3 blocks away and 2 blocks up. This is to prevent the ghast a flying away. 8) Now put lines of glass above the soul sand. From your glass ring, go up 3 blocks. Place glass over each line of torches/wither roses. Repeat this for every row of torches/wither roses. The glass lines should be 4 blocks apart. (note: if you don’t care about your glass usage, you can make a giant glass box as well. This is just more efficient) 9) You’re done! You can build whatever storage you’d like. If you’ve built it correctly, the ghast should spawn and start immediately taking damage to the roses. If you want a complete visual for this, go to Tango Tek’s hermitcraft video and it will show what this farm should look like. These instructions are a good help. Leave any questions for me if you have them. EDIT: Go up 100 or so blocks on roof for best spawns!!!! Forgot about that pretty crucial part.
@@greatdanelegend7001 when you kill the ender dragon again, a new portal to the end cities spawn. If you kill it 20 times, your end island will be surrounded by a huge circle of end cities portals. It looks awesome but without a ghast farm it takes like 2 hours to get all the ghast tears you need. Still easier than building the farm, but the farm looks cool and you can flex with it lol
I build this on our survival server with some modifications: 1) Using Magma instead of stone will make sure only the ghasts will spawn. 2) I only used 6 dirt blocks with wither roses on it and the rest of that floor open air to cover the area, since ghasts have a hitbox of 4*4*4, this drastically reduces the need for iron and ensures there are way fewer dirt blocks for drops to get stuck on. 3) I made a waterflow floor below to gather the drops to my 2 hoppers (1 would have been enough with properly directed waterflow) and chest. 4) Instead of a full glass box, I just used 2 rings of half slabs 2 blocks apart, as I like to be able to get into my farms and it also made the Achievement "Uneasy Alliance" extremely easy to complete. None of them escaped sofar they either die from the rose or suffocation.
If anyone is wondering, it works in 1.18.2! If it's not working for you, here are some fixes to try: - Make sure your portals are linked together correctly. You can test this by going through various portals in the ghast farm. I recommend going in the farthest corners from the middle, and as close as you can get to your personal portal. You may have to move your personal portal a bit farther away in the overworld so ghasts don't end up coming out of it. - Make sure your portals are 4 blocks high (6 blocks if you include the obsidian). - Check to see if you're in the right biome. - Look around and see if you have any other farms in the area. - If ghasts aren't going through the portals, (first fly/run 128 blocks away and back to despawn the ghasts) go through one of the farm portals to make sure they're properly linked and loaded. It should then work as normal. If it still isn't working, refer to fix 1. If you don't have any wither roses, you can make the kill chamber smaller and out of solid blocks just as Mumbo Jumbo did! Very good farm, works quite well for me. And it gives eggs at the same time :) Sadly I had to mess around with the portals since I think I went in a portal on accident at the wrong time or smth but I did get it working perfectly now. Thanks!
This farm needs some tweaks for 1.19.2. If you build as in the video you will not only have ghast spawns but also skeleton ones. I fixed by replacing the middle line in the floors of three rows with froglight blocks, so the area is well lit and only ghasts will spawn in there.
I love the fact, that this is producing gun powder as well as ghast tears, both very useful items for brewing potions and rockets for elytra. Farms that produce several useful items are very sweet in general imo.
I love how all of us have built every farm and no one complains about the resources. We have infinite iron, infinite stone, infinite wood, infinite glass, etc. I only dont have the eggs lol.
I watched every video in this channel , my world is full of automatic farms ! Thanks ! I also got a place in nether and overworld to build the farms Mean - In my nether , I had soul sand valley , crimson_forest , warped_forest , basalt deltas together ! And in overworld taiga biome 11 blocks away , Savanah - main biome , Jungle biome 342 blocks away , and I was so lucky that I got mushroom biome just near my sea 788 blocks away ! And plains biome 290 blocks away , dark_oak_biome 65 blocks away !!!! I was so lucky , !!!Also Mushroom biome - 902 blocks away
Works extremely good, I can only recommend making over 10 layers, it doesn't take too much time and ressources. Its just gonna be hard to get that much obsidian.
I almost lost my day 184 hardcore world while building this! If i wasn't building this farm or something like it i would have. I forgot obsidian to make a portal on the nether roof, but this farm requiring just over 10 stacks of obi saved me!
I spent 3 hours building this farm on a realm when the only time that any one is offline is like 2am-8am and my PC is loud so I wont be able to get to sleep overnight. I can't use the farm unless I buy another Minecraft account and use that one at the place where the Ghasts die or I get someone else to AFK at the place that the Ghasts die. SMH
@@tanksfordyinglol1616 if you switch tabs from your game in singleplayer then the game will pause, but if you do Open To LAN (in the escape menu) the world will enter a "server mode" and the game will run if ur in a different tab. (if u close ur laptop or switch off monitor it may stop)
I built this farm on fourteen floors but it only brought skeletons after reading the comments I found out that it was necessary to light the middle and after I lit everything there the farm began to bring only 16 eggs per hour
if your farm isnt working, make sure the portal in the kill chamber is lit, it sounds stupid but i was really frusterated tryna find out why it wasnt working then i realized that i never lit the portal with the chickens in it

LETS PLAY You can make a dirt farm pretty easily actually, though you do need a hoe. I think ilmango has a scicraft video on it. Basically you use 2 dirt to make 4 coarse dirt, and then just use a hoe on it, and repeat
Built the farm looks good and all - then i realize zombie piglins spawning and that i have built in the wrong biome ... gotta go all over again! Stick to the first instruction guys don't get to cocky - stick with the Soulsand Valleys!! Saves you the hassle to rebuild everything 😉 Cheers
zombified piglins naturally spawn from portals. any farm that uses portals has to deal with them somehow, or just let them be part of it. a little gold as a bonus.

Just like ImFrostbitten said, the ghasts exit the nether quicker so new ones can spawn faster. The rate would be much lower if you killed the ghasts in the nether.
If you don't have any wither roses, there is no problem just make the glass chamber smaller and give it double coating so that the ghast suffocates and can't escape through glitch due to the double coating. This method was used by mumbo jumbo as well.
AHA! Mumbo Jumbo recently showed his "pacifist" ghast farm that just had a smaller chamber, and the ghasts are crammed in too tightly and die. Tested this morning with an 8x7 killbox with just glass walls (removed the soul sand and wither roses), and 10 min later still had a ton of item drops. Good to know!
If you would like to, the wither roses are optional and you can make the ghasts die of suffocation or lava instead, with hopper minecarts in the obsidian blocks on the overworld side.

Hello, so i attempted to make this farm and lately its mainly been producing bones and less gunpowder and ghast tears, is there anything i can do to make it stop producing all these skeleton drops?
Will this work when there are multiple people in either nether/overworld but one account is at the afk spot and one is waiting next to the killing chamber? (but some people are still somewhere else)
if ur watching this at this time u will just need alot of lava and glow lichen (its because you can place glow lichens and it will spawn water in it and useful if you have a pickaxe lower than diamond)

Okay, update I found out why it won't work, so the chunks in the overworld are loaded so they spawn but when they go through the portal they go to the area then despawn any help? Update 2 I fixed it by putting a chunk loader in the world. Update it stopped work the same problem happened, any help?
Mine would not work until I went thru the overworld chicken portal to sync it with the nether farm. As soon as I did that, all was well. It does not work to go thru one of the nether farm portals, it just creates another distant portal in the overworld. I don't think this step is mentioned in the tutorial.
@@Daudt_vnm The farm is built on top of the bedrock, so no possible spawning spaces except in the farm. And I checked with miniHUD it's completely in a soulsand valley
@@tyz_sam I did, and when I am looking at the farm with FreeCam I can only see ghasts spawning, and getting teleported instantaneously, but in the overworld chests are still arrows and bones Edit: Lowest light level in the Farm is 11, idk if that's to low

I think you could set up two hopper minecart tracks instead, one to collect tears on the soul sand, and one to collect tears that fell on the first minecart track. Then it would take a bit of time to get the hopper minecarts to unload into chests but it's been done.
These farms weren’t built for bedrock anyway but you could do it below the roof, the rates would just be not that good. Also it might not work with bedrock game mechanics idk

9) You’re done! You can build whatever storage you’d like. If you’ve built it correctly, the ghast should spawn and start immediately taking damage to the roses. @@greatdanelegend7001 when you kill the ender dragon again, a new portal to the end cities spawn. If you kill it 20 times, your end island will be surrounded by a huge circle of end cities portals. It looks awesome but without a ghast farm it takes like 2 hours to get all the ghast tears you need. Still easier than building the farm, but the farm looks cool and you can flex with it lol

I build this on our survival server with some modifications:
1) Using Magma instead of stone will make sure only the ghasts will spawn.
2) I only used 6 dirt blocks with wither roses on it and the rest of that floor open air to cover the area, since ghasts have a hitbox of 4*4*4, this drastically reduces the need for iron and ensures there are way fewer dirt blocks for drops to get stuck on.
3) I made a waterflow floor below to gather the drops to my 2 hoppers (1 would have been enough with properly directed waterflow) and chest.
4) Instead of a full glass box, I just used 2 rings of half slabs 2 blocks apart, as I like to be able to get into my farms and it also made the Achievement "Uneasy Alliance" extremely easy to complete.
None of them escaped sofar they either die from the rose or suffocation.

If it's not working for you, here are some fixes to try:
- Make sure your portals are linked together correctly. You can test this by going through various portals in the ghast farm. I recommend going in the farthest corners from the middle, and as close as you can get to your personal portal. You may have to move your personal portal a bit farther away in the overworld so ghasts don't end up coming out of it.
- Make sure your portals are 4 blocks high (6 blocks if you include the obsidian).
- Check to see if you're in the right biome.
- Look around and see if you have any other farms in the area.
- If ghasts aren't going through the portals, (first fly/run 128 blocks away and back to despawn the ghasts) go through one of the farm portals to make sure they're properly linked and loaded. It should then work as normal. If it still isn't working, refer to fix 1.
If you don't have any wither roses, you can make the kill chamber smaller and out of solid blocks just as Mumbo Jumbo did! (ua-cam.com/video/jVbC-gXLrDU/v-deo.html if you don't know what I'm talking about)

This farm needs some tweaks for 1.19.2. If you build as in the video you will not only have ghast spawns but also skeleton ones. I fixed by replacing the middle line in the floors of three rows with froglight blocks, so the area is well lit and only ghasts will spawn in there.

I love the fact, that this is producing gun powder as well as ghast tears, both very useful items for brewing potions and rockets for elytra. Farms that produce several useful items are very sweet in general imo.

Works extremely good, I can only recommend making over 10 layers, it doesn't take too much time and ressources. Its just gonna be hard to get that much obsidian.

I almost lost my day 184 hardcore world while building this! If i wasn't building this farm or something like it i would have. I forgot obsidian to make a portal on the nether roof, but this farm requiring just over 10 stacks of obi saved me!
I spent 3 hours building this farm on a realm when the only time that any one is offline is like 2am-8am and my PC is loud so I wont be able to get to sleep overnight. I can't use the farm unless I buy another Minecraft account and use that one at the place where the Ghasts die or I get someone else to AFK at the place that the Ghasts die. SMH

@@tanksfordyinglol1616 if you switch tabs from your game in singleplayer then the game will pause, but if you do Open To LAN (in the escape menu) the world will enter a "server mode" and the game will run if ur in a different tab. (if u close ur laptop or switch off monitor it may stop)

I built this farm on fourteen floors but it only brought skeletons after reading the comments I found out that it was necessary to light the middle and after I lit everything there the farm began to bring only 16 eggs per hour
if your farm isnt working, make sure the portal in the kill chamber is lit, it sounds stupid but i was really frusterated tryna find out why it wasnt working then i realized that i never lit the portal with the chickens in it

LETS PLAY You can make a dirt farm pretty easily actually, though you do need a hoe. I think ilmango has a scicraft video on it. Basically you use 2 dirt to make 4 coarse dirt, and then just use a hoe on it, and repeat

Built the farm looks good and all - then i realize zombie piglins spawning and that i have built in the wrong biome ... gotta go all over again! Stick to the first instruction guys don't get to cocky - stick with the Soulsand Valleys!! Saves you the hassle to rebuild everything 😉

zombified piglins naturally spawn from portals. any farm that uses portals has to deal with them somehow, or just let them be part of it. a little gold as a bonus.

Just like ImFrostbitten said, the ghasts exit the nether quicker so new ones can spawn faster. The rate would be much lower if you killed the ghasts in the nether.

If you don't have any wither roses, there is no problem just make the glass chamber smaller and give it double coating so that the ghast suffocates and can't escape through glitch due to the double coating. This method was used by mumbo jumbo as well.

AHA! Mumbo Jumbo recently showed his "pacifist" ghast farm that just had a smaller chamber, and the ghasts are crammed in too tightly and die. Tested this morning with an 8x7 killbox with just glass walls (removed the soul sand and wither roses), and 10 min later still had a ton of item drops. Good to know!

Okay, update I found out why it won't work, so the chunks in the overworld are loaded so they spawn but when they go through the portal they go to the area then despawn any help?
Update 2 I fixed it by putting a chunk loader in the world.

Mine would not work until I went thru the overworld chicken portal to sync it with the nether farm. As soon as I did that, all was well. It does not work to go thru one of the nether farm portals, it just creates another distant portal in the overworld. I don't think this step is mentioned in the tutorial.

did you build it in a soulsand biome? Skeletons might me spawing on top of the soulsand.
@@Daudt_vnm The farm is built on top of the bedrock, so no possible spawning spaces except in the farm.
And I checked with miniHUD it's completely in a soulsand valley
place torches to stop skeletons from spawning on the spawning platforms
@@tyz_sam I did, and when I am looking at the farm with FreeCam I can only see ghasts spawning, and getting teleported instantaneously, but in the overworld chests are still arrows and bones

I think you could set up two hopper minecart tracks instead, one to collect tears on the soul sand, and one to collect tears that fell on the first minecart track. Then it would take a bit of time to get the hopper minecarts to unload into chests but it's been done.
Manually killing them with a looting sword.
Maybe spread them out more? Pufferfish? I have tested any of these methods. At this point I'm just some rando spitting ideas.

i know this is a bit late, but if you build a cage about 2 blocks away from the exit portal, they actually just suffocate in the walls of the portal.

It is possible (I’m almost done with mine no one asked anyway), but you have to do a “little” bit of spawn proofing.
These farms weren’t built for bedrock anyway but you could do it below the roof, the rates would just be not that good. Also it might not work with bedrock game mechanics idk
I don't have a wither rose farm yet so I used camp fires instead. Works fine but may be laggy on a server.
