    that was the same case with the a7s III and A7 IV (both the same sensors). the special feature of the a7s III/ZV-E1 is the second native iso with 12800 and almost no loss of dynamic range. And of course the noise appears finer on a 33mp sensor.

    I was doing similar tests with my A7C II and I totally agree with you, it seems there is no 2nd base ISO at ISO 3200 on SLog3 (despite what other sources say). I did multiple low light tests and I always got more noise at ISO 3200 than all the ISOs that were less than 3200. Thank you for sharing!

      @RelaxingJourneys4u I tried several times the other day, and I found if I increase the exposure in post processing to make the noise more obvious, I can tell a7cii does have the dual base ISO at 800 and 3200. At ISO 3200 it looks cleaner than 2500. I'll make another video to show this

    Gorgeous @ 0:08 what settings do you use for this this type of walking footage? (ISO, F-Stop, Focus settings). I find that when filming walking footage in low light, the camera has a tendency to pull focus to the people walking by, ruining the video. How did you prevent this?

      A7c i am pretty sure beat the a7cII in low light. Cine1 with custom settings give excellent result. A7cII is better in grip, stabilization and evf, but you can put the a7c on a gimbal and get better result with a7c without any cropping. The grip can be improved with a custom handle. The price is affordable now. The sensor has better low light performance. At the current price a7c is a very good option.

      @@ConstantineSPhotography in slog 3 , the a7cII will be better as it is 10 bit 4:2:2 but in sun light only. Cine1 will beat it with less color noise and accurate color. But my point is a7cII has definitely improved some of the specs but a7c is still a very good option for the price today. PP standard is very good. Its 1080p60 and 120 are very high quality and can be upscaled to 4k with Davinci Resolve, without cropping. A7c + weebill 3s beat any camera in stabilization. Cine1 is better than slog2 and slog3 in 8 bit camera, i would not use slog in low light anyway even with 10 bit camera. The 24Mp sensor has one of the best low light performance on any camera. @CC-gt3ro yea...I was thinking the 24mp on the A7C will let in more light because the pixels will be bigger tha than pixels on the A7CII.

    The ZVE1 outperforms the A7 at 12800 and above so you need to shoot at a base ISO. However, if you are run and gunning in dark environs, and not setting ISO, the A7 would be better for SLOG but not necessarily other profiles. But I can’t be bothered with SLOG and instead use S Cinetone with a lower second base ISO, and so the ZVE1 performs better than the A7C in that scenario at sub 12800 more 'normal' ISO levels.
    So the tests isnt really which performs better at low light, theres no question the sensor on the ZVE1 performs better at low light, but which one is better at lower ISOs in SLOG.
    I’d be v interested to see the test again using S Cinetone.

    • @ConstantineSPhotography
      @ConstantineSPhotography  4 місяці тому

      I agree, but aren't both cameras have the base iso of 2000 in s-cinetone?

    • @wakeywarrior
      @wakeywarrior 4 місяці тому +1

      @@ConstantineSPhotography yes 100 and 2000 but between those figures and above 2000 the ZVE1 should have less noise due to its much larger light gathering pixels. I shoot S Cinetone and it’s very clean in extremely dark environs, even though it pushes above 2000.
      Really you can’t use the ZVE1 without ND filters in S log as you need it sub 640 in the day or 12800 really at night. It’s a better low light performer than the A7Cii at Slog as it’s cleaner at 12800, but it comes with hassle. If you want to shoot Slog and run and gun and not set ISO, because the camera would pick usually a lower iso even when it’s quite dark, then A7Cii is easier. The 12800 is almost overkill, and it results in noisier image at lower ISO. I’d have preferred it to be 6400 personally. But it will shoot clean in very, very dark environments.
      ZVE1 is a low light wonder, it’s just its dual gain is set at extremely high levels in Slog, I am not sure why Sony set it up as they did, whether it was a choice, or there’s a physics reason behind it.
      I don’t have the A7Cii so would be very interested to see both cameras pushed way up high in SCinetone to see which is best, and I’d expect that to be ZVE1.
