I only use well performing products that I've used on myself and clients. All products have been purchased by me (unless specifically stated) and I do not accept payment, and am not sponsored or benefit in any way for videos on this channel.
Thank you Sharon for demonstrating this technique. I am always worried I am probably doing things wrong when it comes to my hair which is fine and salt and pepper. Until I found your channel I did not even own rollers or know how to backcomb / tease my hair. You have also inspired me to grow my hair longer so that I have more options - and yesterday - my 67th birthday - I bought a grey scrunchie to do my longer hair up in a bun after watching your videos. You are a great encourager and an excellent teacher.
Ahhhhh thank you so much Patricia Horgan for the lovely compliment and for sharing how this channel has helped encourage you. Wonderful.
What a brilliant tutorial Not just on the baking soda, but on basic hair styling. I have the dreaded cowlick at the back too.
I knew I wasn't alone with the cowlick dilemma Strawberry 1. So glad you enjoyed the video.
I use baking soda as a dry shampoo to delay washing hair. Now will use it to wash my hair & fluff. Thank you for another fun video Sharon!
Your hair looks beautiful, Sharon. I’ve been washing my hair for about 15 years with baking soda, because I’m cheap, and it works! But I didn’t know about volumizing your hair with it. I’ll have to give it a try! Thanks! 😃
Good for you Connie Olson - yes I think as a volumizer too you'll like.
😮
May I ask how to wash it with baking soda, your hair? Thank you
Well, I used baking soda; I mean I Used Baking Soda! Tons of baking soda! And I have a pixie. But my hairdresser immediately asked what I had done to my hair as she could tell the silver was shiny like new highlights. Now I have the actual recipe I won’t have so much baking soda in my ears.
Thanks for your wonderful tips.
Yes, Mariangela Hollday, using the right amount is smart.
What’s the baking soda recipe? Please?
I have been using expensive dry shampoo to accomplish this up till now. I will be using Baking Soda from here on out! Thank you for sharing!!
You are most welcome.
Yes when I was in beauty school 1971 we always put a little baking soda mixed in with our shampoo to take off the terrible buildup of heavy hairspray when women used to come in once a week to get the hair done they would have it so sprayed hard from every day till they came back it really does work always enjoy your videos I still have trouble getting my eyebrows on it’s a process thank you
Now that's interesting Sharamay Ritter. I've only learned about the uses of baking soda since I embraced my gray hair. And you're right, it really does work.
Hi sweet lady! You are doing awesome video's for us while STILL recovering and being with your son! Thanks dear, for the great tips on the baking soda as a root lifter, and a clarifier! ( which I do, it works great) Will be using as a root lifter, and for volume! You and your hair look gorgeous. I'm so happy to see you being able to raise your arm again! I pray you are pain free and healed!
Thank you so much for your kind words Sharon La Tour and yes I'm really moving forward and have graduated from my physio therapist but will continue doing them myself at home for the next 3 months. And of course doing pin curls and updos is a perfect exercise too.
@@twominutetips Bravo for your ''Graduation''!! You have worked really hard! I pray for you and hope you do not have to be seen by then again! XO
I'm going to try this. I love your videos. I love your tips on how to do an updo because I really need to do something with my long, gray hair.
So glad you are enjoying while learning.
I have had my first baking soda hair treatment. I added it to the conditioner. First rinse and the water looked light brown. Second rinse, ok. Hair is soft and light. I am anxious to see the result after I blow dry!
It should ONLY be added to the shampoo NOT the conditioner. Remember this for next time and to rinse well and condition well. Good luck with it.
Love the big hair! Beautiful.
Beautiful hair. You are truly lovely.
I have that same cowlick at the crown! I use a smidge of essential oils with the baking soda.
Cowlick sister we are then Robbin Welch.
Very pretty! Sending to my gray twin sister!
Beautiful hair and great tips….. so glad I found you!!!!!
Can we use it on hair that is not fu fully white but a mixture black hair and white hair? Appreciate if you can confirm. Thank you for the video.❤
Ok I've watched this vid twice now.... and I'm hooked. I will try the baking soda.. I'm desperate! My gorgeous silver white hair has yellowed! It started with our water softener breaking at the beginning of the Pandemic and being a Front Line Worker, I washed my hair after work-everytime! That made 3 days a week of shampoo. Purple shampoo gave it a not natural cast, and suddenly, despite adding a filter head to my shower, my hair was horrible! I try to use curly girl method with products. I will definitely try this baking soda idea. I did get my water softener fixed but now I believe the sun is the culprit to my hair yellowing and dinginess. Thank you! I'll let you know the results!
I know this is 4 years after you posted so sorry. My grey turned ugly brassy blond! Then I discovered my water softener needed an iron filter!! Ferrous iron! Now I'll battle with baking soda to get my silver grey back. $1800 for the iron filter to twin with the $1800 water softener Cha ching.
As a cosmetologist of 31 years and have been semi-retired for many moons, I have to say you have wonderful teaching techniques! Just recently for my male clients, I purchased a product called Gorilla Styling powder. I was apprehensive at first and then viewed some of the videos to see how it worked. I was amazed and can say it works on my male clients just like advertised except it costs 20 dollars at my cost and a small bottle at that but a little goes a long way. I will have to try the baking soda just to compare. I will also check out if it is noticeable for darker hair. You have beautiful Silver-white hair and I also was wondering for one of my clients if you have any low-lights added to your hair?
Well, we need an update. How did the baking soda work in darker hair? How did it work compared to the Gorilla styling powder?
I envy anyone with curly hair. My hair used to be thick but not so much as I've gotten older. It's also dead straight and I struggle with a cow's lick. Trying to find a new hairstyle for 2020 but can't find anything I like. Can't be too short and no longer than shoulder length. Love the waves in your hair. 💕
LOVE this but what is the trick to using velcro rollers? I always am unable to get them out without a mess-they tangle my hair.
You're so pretty and your hair is lovely. I am growing out my hair now. My husband has beautiful white hair. He's 50 and I am 47.
And you're so kind lynne Gillette. Good for you - you'll be so glad you embraced your glorious gray.
Hooray for this uplifting, beautiful Sharon vid!
Thank you Cindy - so glad you enjoyed
Valuable information. Who would ever have imagined baking soda! Thank you Sharon.
You're most welcome Ethical Vegan. Ya - baking soda is da bomb for lots more reasons too.
many it is an indispensable item for myriad uses.
I am going to try the baking soda 😊 thank you, and you are looking beautiful as usual 🌷💐
You smooth talker laurie ann wilks - I'll take it. Thank you.
Just AWESOME! This technique just might encourage me to grow my hair longer 😍
So glad you like and are inspired Capsulend Capsulend
Omg use velcro roller all the time! When i blow dry my hair i put the roller as i go trough each layer with my big rouded brush. So it cool down on the position that i want! I'm curious to try the baking soda since i've got blond hair! Thanks foe sharing :-)
Yes Helena Papaz - Velcro Rollers are a staple in any dames hair wardrobe. Enjoy the baking soda.
Wow...your hair and you are just gorgeous...thanks for sharing this tip
You look great after your baking soda technique !!
Thank you Madelyn5454
I will totally try the baking soda for volume!
Great - enjoy denise bissell.
OMG the back of your hair (and cowlick) look exactly like mine!!! And you hair looks great. Looking forward to decanting some baking soda!
Simply wonderful, as always! A cheap fix, love it!
So glad you do Laura Freeman
Fantastic tip 😊thank you xx❤
Love it. Great information. Looking forward to trying that.
Excellent All about America - enjoy.
This is fabulous! I was wondering what could be a substitute for that expensive volumizing powder. As always, brilliant!
So glad you like Kelly Jensen
I love your wavy hair have you tried the curly girl method
Hair wizard!!! Thank you! And look at your shoulder rom. Great hair you have too!
Ah thank you Joy - yes the shoulder is doing MUCH better.
Never heard of using baking soda this way. Do you think it's better than dry shampoo? I've seen a number of YTers use dry shampoo on clean hair just for volume. I have used a little corn starch sprinkled on a brush but I get a bit of static as I'm in a dry climate. I'm going to try the soda.
Sharon, please elaborate on why you do not prefer to use purple shampoo. Metallic? I value your opinion
K Ham - as stated in the video purple shampoos, when used regularly create a metallic tint to the hair - like a metal. AND some of the purples shampoos tint the hair blue or lavender.
Love your videos, Sharon. My hair is the same color, length and texture as yours. I had been using baby powder to help with volumizing and disguising some thin spots, but after seeing this video, I'm going to give baking soda a try. I use a generic version of Shimmer Lights every 3rd shampoo, which does a pretty good job of keeping the yellow out.
Well if its working for you great then Deborah Graham
I have long hair, will the baking soda work on my hair without weighing it down? Thanks so much. I love this video.
It shouldn't weight it down, only volumize it. Charlotte Morse.
Your hair is really pretty.
Thank you very much L McCauley. It is thin and fine, but with proper styling it can look fuller.
Thanks, Sharon! Enjoyed this!
So glad you did Joan Komar
When you say “decanted soda, what do you mean? Did you mix it with some liquid or what? Please. I’ll be waiting for your kind answer! Thank you!
It means she took some out of the box and put it in the little plastic bottle.thats all 😏
I noted she didn’t tell us how to prepare the soda mix 😒
Wow! Amazing! Thanks for the video👏👏👏
You are so welcome Monica Chadwick - glad you like.
Awesome very beautiful I can't wait to try this one. Thanks for the update. Your a treasure 😍
Wonderful Teresa Harmon - enjoy it. And thank you for the compliment.
Another great video! Thanks so much!
Ah thank you Mihelle Cox
Looks great!
TY Paula Bush
Thanks so much i am going to try it
Wonderful Debra Windle-Smith
LOVE THIS - THANK YOU!!!
So glad you do Gamms2003
When do you remove the baking soda from your scalp, and is it safe to do this every day? I heard that it can be damaging to your skin and hair, but you just proved that it’s not true. Your hair looks gorgeous!👍
As per the video, I only mix in the baking soda and water with the shampoo and clean, rinse throughly and condition well. Hope that helps.
In this video were you using it dry? Or had you added some water to it?? If wet is it 1tablespoon to 1 cup of water?? Thank you it is a great tip.
I used it dry in the video as a POWDER volumizer Debra Windle-Smith. When I shampoo because its ALREADY in the hair I only use shampoo and it mixes with the powder baking soda and voila - bright and shiny.
Great tutorial. I saw your picture with wavy hair and it looks absolutely stunning on you. Is it softer and better feeling than when it's teased and sprayed? Am wanting to wear my hair more natural as it has a slight wave and teasing and spraying feels so stiff no matter how allegedly non stiff the hairspray is- have tried products from 10.00 to $50.00 and can't seem to find good products for gray hair. Leaving it without product does make it look limp and teasing doesn't last unless sprayed. BTW, do you know if there a hairspray that doesn't leave baby fine and thin gray hair sticky and stiff?
I think either curly or straight its all in the styling. You simply have two different approaches with either choice. Currently I'm using John Freida Flexible Hold. But all hairsprays will have a wee bit of a stiff feel to them depending on how much you use and how you apply. Try some Curl Keeper for you more natural wave as its water soluble and can be reactivated with a spritz of water. Also you can tease at the root only for lift. I have other videos on this in the Hairstyling Playlist on this channel for you.
Lady... genius ..
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing
So glad you like Janice White
Also, can you use vinegar on your hair after you wash with baking soda?
Thank lynne Gillette - I use to use the vinegar but I didn't see the necessity for it or that it made any difference so I just stopped and like the results.
Great tip, thank you!
So glad you like Rachel Ross
What a helpful tips and beautiful young lady. Thank you. Love your hair
Thank you and you are most welcome
Beautiful!
Thank you Sue Silva
Love it.....TFS!
How did you do it for the curly hair
Thanks for sharing 💖
What a great tip. Now I just have to find a bottle for dispensing it. I’m going to the beauty supply store today and I will look for it. Sharon, I hope live has turned around for you and you have nothing but sunshiny days. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Oh wonderful jud doolittle. And thank you - I'm certainly moving in the right direction.
Hi Sharon, I am looking for natural, salt and pepper colored, hair extensions. Do you have any suggestions? Fashion gray is easy to find but I want them to blend with my own hair which is about 50/50. My base color is medium brown.
Kathy Hehr - check the links in the description box below.
Brilliant!!!
Thanks Barbara von Eppinger
Beautiful. Thank you!
Sharon for those who maybe just want a purple conditioner I found a fantastic one. It's by JOICO and it's called color balance purple conditioner. I actually put it on my dry hair. The ends that is which yellow. I used about two tablespoons and worked it in. Left it in for an hour uncovered while I did something else. Remarkable. I will use this once a week. Even hubby noticed. Before I was using purple shampoos which dried hair out and did nothing. My hairdresser said to me once, "you have to use a purple conditioner not shampoo". So anyway it works. Thought I'd share.
Thank you denise bissell, but I don't recommend purple shampoos or conditioners to my followers as they can stain more porous hair and continued use creates a metallic look to the hair.
I try not to tease my hair bc I think it causes breakage/damage when combed out. I figure the less I fuss with it, the longer time it stays healthy.
Actually Donna Woodford, its ALL in the TECHNIQUE AND the COMBOUT. ALWAYS comb from the bottom of the hair shaft and work your way up. AND hair needs to be brushed and cleaned in order for it to be healthy along with a healthy lifestyle AND stress management.
Genius!
TY
What is decanted baking soda? If you were to add baking soda to your shampoo, how much would you add?
The video shows and describes for you
How much baking soda and water? in the little bottle?
Oh about a couple of tablespoons. You'll need to experiment. Try teaspoons first and see.
I think I missed it was the baking soda mix with water or on it own.....????
JR Pacer - if you've used it for a volumizer, then no need to add more when you shampoo AND you don't have to use it every shampoo.
Very lovely🌈😍
I never knew!!!! I see people using baby powder, corn starch, all sorts or stuff. I keep my baby powder to use as a scent when going to the dr or places I dont want to be attracting bees, lol. Corn starch is saved for cooking. Baking soda, on the other hand, I RARELY need for cooking, I use it for cleaning and clarifying my hair. I didnt realize how much volume it gives. I also never realized it helps remove the icky yellow grey I get when my hair is natural. I remember using apple cider vinegar in every rinse when I was younger to keep a hint of red in my blond hair. THANKS SO MUCH for your channel and all your advice and tips
You are most welcome Teresa Haven.
Is it just soda and water?
You also add shampoo
Interesting 🤔
Is this the same as bicarbonate of soda or is it baking powder?
poppy marenge - as stated - its baking soda - which IS ALSO CALLED bicarbonate of soda.
Can you tell us where you got your little squeeze bottle? Looks perfect for the job.
Just a drugstore brand amt
Is that straight baking soda or have you added water to it? Amazing what it does to your hair, which is gorgeous by the way!
Bevmaybe - as in the video I've used it in its powder form for a volumizer and when I shampoo my hair the baking soda is already in there so no need to add more.
Does this make your hair dull
No it doesn't Mia Anslow as I think you can see in the video.
Baking soda or baking soda and water in the bottle?
Baking soda ONLY Eli.
I must try the baking soda. I normally use a rather expensive product to give me the lift I need.
Great video, thank you so much for sharing ❤❤❤
Just subscribe ❤❤❤
A way to get rid of yellow!
YES it sure is Wanda Pease
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Monica Spada
Hair spray too..saturate your hair with hairspray, let it dry than shampoo.
I love your hair
Now, that's interesting krash Kb. I may just try that
👌🏽
Thank you. It was hard to hear. 🎶🎵
Thanks Nancy Moore - yet nobody else had trouble. Did you turn your speakers up?
W
Who knew?
I know eh Tribbles?
SHARON NEVER TOLD US HOW TO MIX IT UP TO USE BAKINGSODA..
Like all baking soda mixed with water or shampoo you have to shake it up each time before using.
I used baking soda , but it made my hair very dry , useless
Red lipstick is the aging lipstick. I just came upon this channel for the first time, this video was posted 2019, it's now Oct. 2021. Reading through the comments it seems this lovely woman's name is Sharon, and the color of her hair, the length are as beautiful as she is, I actually prefer it wavy. I'm 63, am a retired professional makeup artist and if I may please make one comment without coming across as rude: red lipstick is the aging lipstick. No female past the age of 50 (I stopped at 40), should ever wear it, it's harsh against an aging face and makes one look older. Please consider wearing a pale pink, light coral or a neutral. The pales with a touch of color lighten ones face and really do help us women look younger as we adapt to getting older. Less makeup is always best as we age. I stopped having fun dying my shoulder length, light brown hair in my 40's and let it go natural, it's still long, light brown with gray and white throughout it, friends tell me it looks highlighted, but I wish it would hurry up and go white all the way, I love yours! I use a fragrance free shampoo and conditioner as I'm highly allergic to fragrances of any kind, in anything, lotions, laundry detergent, soaps, etc. hair spray for me is toxic too. I read natural baking soda made into a paste, squished and combed through the hair may help lighten ones gray to whiter and found this video, subscribed and will watch more. Thank you for posting.
Unfortunately, I completely disagree with you. There are thousands of women I have coached over the years who are over 50 with great success and their family and friends notice how much more vibrant they are - and wearing RED or variations thereof. That is why I'm a "Master" artist as I've had decades of experience in every sector of the makeup world. The aim is is NOT to chase the illusive "younger" approach but to embrace where we are with full enthusiasm and knowledge of "expert" skill.
With as much respect as I can muster, it's this kind of thinking that leads women down the garden path of looking tired and drawn. My approach is NOT like a clown but uses proper intensity, architecture, depth and balance which are also all part of my approach to good makeup with successful results.
BS😨😢 didn't work!!!more yellow than ever!!
Are you using hot tools Marlene Engleman? If so have you turned the heat down? Are you using them over hairspray? All these things will contribute. The Baking soda method has been well tested and a good 98% find it fabulous when following the correct directions.
Beautiful!
Thank you.
