The line that refers to the song title at the end of each chorus is one of the most famous "mis-quoted lyrics" moments in rock and roll. "There's a bad moon on the rise" has been mis-quoted by SO many listeners as "There's a bathroom on the right". The singer John Fogerty continues the myth, jokingly. He pretty much sings the bathroom line at least once during the song when he plays it live!

  • @Van1973Auken

If I'm not mistaken, the special effects artists for that movie went on to do the special effects for the Michael Jackson Thriller video too. At any rate, Bad Moon Rising is iconic CCR. My favorite song. Always plays on the radio when I want to hear it. Dumb luck.
I died last August, doctors brought me back after 6 minutes. It's weird knowing I was dead and gone from this world for a little while. I didn't even know I died. I remember telling a nurse that I thought I was going to pass out. She said she handed me paperwork to transfer me to another hospital and I looked at her and said I don't think I'll be needing that. She said I passed out and died.
Alone in the hospital on life support for two months. Remember a nurse mixing my medicine and using the purple container on the wall. When I was finally able to communicate I asked about the purple container why the nurses only used the pink solution to mix my medicine but one nurse used the purple one. He asked did a nurse mix my medicine with the purple container contents. I said yeah. He said that was poison. Remember a nurse saying I was going to go to hell. I was unconscious but I was fading in and out I just couldn't get anyone's attention. I had my arms tied down to prevent me from moving. I was on life support and I had open heart surgery and my chest was cut open and moving would make it heal wrong. And I couldn't speak either. Even after I woke up to where doctors noticed I couldn't talk for another three weeks. For two weeks I was unable to move.
I'm glad I survived just so I can hear good music , talk with friends and see pretty scenery. I no longer feel like me, after coming back this world seems different. Nothing tastes good anymore. I have a sense that nothing in the world matters.
I know life is precious, it should be enjoyed as much as possible. Money, power, religion none of that stuff matters. When you go you just take yourself and nothing else. I still love bad Moon rising I'm just thankful I got to hear it again.

The dichotomy between the funky groove of the melody and the lyrics creates this sort of surrealistic feeling, it fits perfectly in, for example, movie scenes when something dark is happening, but you want a certain lightheartedness at the same time.

Whenever I hear this song, I think of a time, back in the 80's, and I was at the Tampa Fair. We came across a booth that had a TV screen showing VCR videos of people lip-singing. Turned out, you could pay to pick a song and go inside to record you and anyone with you, lip singing. They had some props, like a small drum set, guitars with no strings, etc. Well, we got to talking to a man and his family about, wouldn't it be fun to do that. So me, my boyfriend, Steve and the father's 3 boys, aged 11 to 16, picked this song. Steve bought, from a nearby booth, some cheap sunglasses for each of us to wear and in we went. When we came out, 2 copies of the taped video in hand, our performance was playing on the TV. It drew quite a crowd, with a great round of applause. Memorable moment, lol. Of course now, everyone takes videos of themselves singing and post them for the world to see.

I have loved this song and this group for a long time. However this song always makes me chuckle! It was featured once as an example of how people can misunderstand lyrics. "There's a bad moon on the rise" becomes "There's a bathroom on the right!" Listen to it again! Great song either way!

Back in 1998 I went to hear the Battlefield Band. The lead singer announced they were going to do a song that they had heard played by bar bands in every corner of the world, but they were pretty sure they were the only band that included the great highland bagpipe in their instrumentation.... And then they played Bad Moon Rising.

Fun fact: this song was/has been tagged with most mistaken lyrics in a song when he sings, "there's a bad moon on the rise" some people thought he was singing, "there's a bathroom on the right" lol fun fact..love CCR..love this song..my personal favorites are The Midnight Special and Long As I See The Light..great songs

@@Grumpy_Rabbit Yea I know right? Lol I've always heard, "there's a bad moon on the rise" but after reading that I went back and listened and could see where ppl heard that lol just like in Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze when he sings, "excuse me while I kiss the sky" some ppl thought he actually said, "excuse me while I kiss this guy" lol funny stuff

Lead singer and lead guitarist John Fogerty is an amazing songwriter. They had 9 top ten hits in about a 3 to 4 year period from late 60's to early 70's. My favorite CCR tune has always been "Long As I Can See the Light."

Otis has several songs that are great!
      “Respect”
      “These Arms of Mine”
“I’ve Been Loving You Too Long”
      “Just One More Day”
“Sitting’ On the Dock of the Bay”
I honestly feel that he’s a bit forgotten by history. But to me he’s arguably one of the best soul/r&b artists.

@@TheYetiThornton he had so much more to give! He, like many other legends, died too early. I've Been Loving You Too Long is one of the most heartfelt songs in history. Otis had a way of making himself completely vulnerable, and he uses that skill in volumes in that sone alone.

One of the greatest bands and voices (Fogerty) in rock history. You can't help but move when you hear any one of their songs! My parents told me I used to dance naked to "Down on the Corner" as a toddler! 😳😁🤣👏 Too bad they didn't have a video camera back then - I'd love to see that footage of me now it would be hilarious:) Anyway, I still love them and jam their music today... albeit usually fully clothed!

A classic from the misunderstood lyrics file. "There's a bathroom on the right".
(Hendrix - "Scuse me while I kiss this guy". "Louie Louie"......you know.)
AM Radio format drove song length back in the day. Extended versions of songs were often on the album - vinyl at 33 1/3 - and those versions would get played on the FM formats.
