Clint, the more I watch your videos the more I am impressed! You can jump in and drive any piece of equipment, work on it and haul it home from the auction! You sir are a jack of all trades!
To many years ago to count, I had a job with a guy who did land clearing in South Texas. His haul truck was an old single axle GMC with a 4-71 GMC diesel that had a cracked block, so he ran engine oil in the radiator. The transmission was an old twin stick with some regearing to allow it to handle the weight of the equipment. The trailer was a dual axle float that was picked up with a winch line. My most memorable moment was loading an Euclid bulldozer with a very heavy Garwood blade. By walking the 'dozer almost over the end of the trailer, he could use the winch to pick up the float and lock it into the fifth wheel. Then he backed the tractor up and set the blade onto the last six inches of the deck. After, draining the excess oil out of the crankcase and pouring it back into the radiator to get the "water" temperature back below 200 degrees, we got into the truck and headed for the next job site. On the way there, I noticed the driver began to work the two gearshifts with both hands, hanging his arm in the steering wheel trying not to coast during his shifts. I understood when I saw us approaching a hill. The driver asked me to steer as he began two handed downshifting as we lost speed on the grade. When we were in bottom gear, we opened the doors as the old 4-71 began to lose rpm. We topped the rise with about 450 RPM on the tach. As we leveled out, the old engine began to gradually pick up RPM and we both breathed a lot easier. When we could, the driver pulled over and we drained the excess oil out of the crankcase and put it back into the radiator. The rest of the trip was uneventful.
Use to drive Peter built with 53 trailers had to give it up To Diabetes now I’m a custody officer wish I was doing what you do, thanks client the u tube’s are great. Love em James Layman
As a young lad growing up in the 50's and 60's whenever there was a piece of heavy equipment working I would watch for as long as i could. Thanks to you and "DIRT PERFECT" AND "LETSDIG 18" I can still hang on to some of my youth.
AWESOME tip about the exhaust. I've been trucking 20+ years, mostly local, & never knew about doing that. All the equipment moves we do are an hour or less for travel time(s).
You are fortunate to have the knowledge and experience to be successful in business at the time of demand. You on a level that few will ever achieve with figuring the weight of equipment.
I met you through DP Mike, I enjoyed this one so most like love anything you toss up as I loved trucking and Mechanicing myself. Now 72 and a crippled retired mechanic with trucking experience. Back many years ago, hauled a load out of Pennsylvania from a auction... before hauling the load quite the experience of theft in a major way as my load description was a case excavator and lot ticket no., so seen machine an immediately called owner in washington state. He told me I was right so went looking myself and did find right machine in a different row of equipment that was going to be loaded out, called the cops, they come full boogie with ten cars or so. Pointed out right machine an my ticket no., which "John" was on phone waiting.... it all got straightened out but while I was leaving with right machine another guy was over at the same place I was at and sure enough he being the owner knew what was what. It wasn't someone playing tricks, the guy was trading lot tickets on machines cause that was all they had on them, nothing in glass or machine, just tags. I just barely caught mine or we would of both lost right machines.... crazy hu?? That was in 1972 and trust me, equipment has come a long way since then. I was driving a narrow nose Pete with a 220 cummins an no turbo or inner coolers etc.. I wrestled those two sticks all the way home. I have had pickups with more power than it had.... for a while as we learned about buttons, stingers, springs an yes, it was my own truck. I never touched anything but dip sticks on other peoples rigs.
Howdy Mr. Chitwood, Came back for a second viewun. You make haulin look like anybody can do it!!!!! Some of the full time truckers "puff up a bit" in the tellin.
Glad to see the extra chains, after 25 years of heavy haul and 3 yrs trying to teach the right way to do it I was really disappointed with the know it all attitude of the ones that make it difficult for the good drivers who took the time to learn state and federal laws and guidelines, thanks.
I am in the market for a small clean dozer. My case 450C is ready to retire. I keep a check on your web site. I should have came up and bought that Dressta former forest service dozer you had a while back. You snooze you lose I guess lol. Found your channel through DP and subscribed.
Yes I do enjoy watching you hall your equipment, I am retired from driving truck, at one time in my career I worked for a excavation Co that done excavation work for new gas wells to be constructed, my job was hauling the equipment from job to job throughout the day and if I would get caught up and they needed an operator I would fill in. Now that I’m retired I have a small lawn and garden equipment repair shop. So I not only enjoy the trucking part of your content I really enjoy watching the repairs that you do, you really do a good job on your filming you really get into detail, you done a real nice job on dirt perfect’s low boy, I guess I started following you when dirt perfect started whining about the dozer that he bought off of you, I lost a lot of respect for him over that situation of throwing you under the bus before he gave you a chance, I have the upmost admiration for the way you handled that situation, I know you’re a businessman and sometimes you have to deal with ignorance, but he is a businessman also and I know that he wouldn’t appreciate one of his customers Doing him the way he treated you on UA-cam. But God only expects us to be his hands and feet and he will deal with the rest of the people in the world. You and Chris on let’s dig, out of the heavy equipment content that I follow on UA-cam, You and Chris are my favorite videos! If I had a bucket list, spending some time in the seat behind the controls of one of those Komatsu D475A dozers would probably just send me over the top! Keep up the good work brother you make my day!
Nothing wrong with making side deals at auctions (unless the auctioneer / seller explicitly prohibits it). I collect old electric meters and one year, another bidder and I bought 15+ pallets of used electric meters the local municipal utility had replaced, for barely $100 total. I offered my half to the other guy (a scrapper) for the right to search them all for any models I didn't have. It was backbreaking work a few weeks later, but I found a few I didn't have, including a mint 1950s model that only needed the glass cleaned. Still had the factory sticker and seal on the back!
Really enjoyed the footage from the Florida auctions. Your explanations of what you were checking on each piece was very interesting. THANKS FOR THE EXCELLENT VIDEOS. Take care, from Ottawa Canada
Been there done that . I use to drive a 1970 Auto Car With true 24 inch rubber Truck & lowboy . Truck had a KT450 cum A part 5x4 with 3 speed rears .65,000 lbs rears The lowboy was a Rodgers 150 ton You could put a Cat D 8 K which weight 49 ton with a ripper 98,000lbs . The truck and lowboy empty weight 62,500 lbs Yes it was heavy but this unit was built too move Cranes Oh that K T 450 was putting out 875 hp to the ground !
Just started following your channel definitely like what I have seen loved the auction vids with dirt perfect and letsdig18 and you and your dad your dad is a great guy loved how he gets on any piece of equipment and gives it the once-over and his comments are very amusing and straight to the point brilliant so keep up the good work and keep the videos coming 😀 👍
I am woefully late to viewing this video (been doing some catching up on your channel videos).., those are some pretty big pieces of iron (excavators)…, good deal on the quick re-sale of the one. Love watching this kind of stuff, looking forward to more auction pre-view videos…, I don’t know “jack” about the equipment, the biggest thing I run is a 40hp, rubber tire Kubota tractor, and an old 1966 Dodge C500 dump truck, (gravel for my drive way), around my property. Thank you sir.
i heard of it doing a bike wheel, never thought a turbo. I was wondering can a excavator spin all the way around? trying to imagine what in sam hill kind of controls will allow even 180 ?
@@C_CEQUIPMENT : Yeah for sure... Do this again and put a camera out the window (perhaps on top of cab) for a few miles with just that sound. Miss the hell out of a whining turbo and shifting till the cows come in. ;-)) I turned this video up LAF till wife told me to knock it off and turn it down... LOL...
Clint... Question for you. I noticed that you opted for not using the outriggers with the 330. Just wondering why? My rule of thumb is that if the center of the sprocket is on, or overhanging, the frame rail, I run the outriggers to keep from bending the top of the rail over time. I'm sure you have seen older trailers where both sides are slanted. taping exhaust.. Funny, I do the same and for the exact same reason.. As a matter of fact, I have bags made of canvas that I slip over exhausts. I mentioned exhausts on Dirt Perfect's driver's channel and was promptly told it was a debunked myth. Try leaving a manufacturer's property with a new piece of equipment without coverings. Apparently, they don't know about the debunking of the myth. A long ago employer of mine had to actually replace the turbo on a Cat 950F wheel loader after I hauled it about 300 miles with exhaust coverings. Hard lesson learned by a young heavy equipment hauler. Nice video.
Thanks I have used the outriggers a few times and have the boards for them in the center of the trailer So my main trailer boards stick up a bit and the tracks don’t put much pressure if any on the side rails. Now if the undercarriage was worn out very bad and had allot of flex then that might be a different story Now on a rubber tire machine that’s overwidth I may use them! I always figure it’s cheap insurance on covering the exhaust and always specify it when I have other people haul my equipment in I buy. If it’s not covered when it shows up to my shop it gets noted on BOL and if turbo is bad the trucking company is out. I have had about 2 machines coming in with bad turbos from hauling that’s way!
It great to see what a truck driver has to go through just haul a load. Do you have to have a weight scale ticket for every haul you make, or just the one to let you know what your weight was for that type of backhoe.
I don't like that pilot at all good place to get your hood tore off. That truck looks like a truck from Iowa. You need to get Dirt Perfect to hook you up with them speed binders
I can remember when I was taking my CDL test and I’ll never forget what my instructor said,….D.O.T. will never pull you over for having too many chains securing your load…. So when in doubt throw a few more on…I don’t know if every state is the same on this but in Pa it’s 1 chain per 10’ of load, I guess I was one of them just in case drivers because I always added more than needed….” Just in case “ I’ve always done it that way. Unfortunately I don’t drive anymore, thanks to a person running me off the road and rolling over, ended up messing a lot of things up and took me about 3 years to learn to walk and a bunch of other stuff… And all that matters is I’m alive.
Man i was just thinking them excavators are awful heavy for that trailer. Then you said you were gonna come after them with the bigger trailer. Answered mu thoughts right away
Do you have to have the equipment out within a certain time period? I have been looking at excavators at auctions but I live in Maine and it would take some time to arrange transportation.
That's a good looking Peterbuilt. Love the blue color. Sounds like it has a Cat engine? I own Case equipment. A cx160 b excavator and 850h dozer with a cab and AC. I like em. You sell some good looking equipment. I need a skid steer next year. I will give you a chance to sell me one when I get ready. I think I want a Case or Takeuchi. But I'm not sure. I'm like the guy commenting before me, I found your channel from watching DP. You should get on his live stream with him soon. Great video! I watch them all now.
Hey Jason, not sure about Case but the Takeuchi T12 stands up to Andrew Camaratas tasks so is probably worth looking into. If he didn't break it, it might be indestructible. :)
Clint, the more I watch your videos the more I am impressed! You can jump in and drive any piece of equipment, work on it and haul it home from the auction! You sir are a jack of all trades!
With the way that trackpad flexed when he was tied down I don't want to mess with him

Never thought I’d find a video about hauling heavy equipment entertaining, but darned if I didn’t watch every minute of it! I’m hooked. 😎
Thanks

didnt know that either
Watch trailered equipment exhausts on the highways. They are bagged.
I really like watching you guys work on equipment and stuff like you and Dirt Prefect working together
You are fortunate to have the knowledge and experience to be successful in business at the time of demand. You on a level that few will ever achieve with figuring the weight of equipment.
Being a retired trucker I hope some of these younger drivers will see through you there is a heck of lot to know than just knowing how to shift gears.

I pulled lowboy and dump trailer 40 plus years . Pulled Trailer for 48 years . I retired 3/31/2021 with over 6 .5 million logged miles !
Wow!
You have the soft touch like Mike and Chris 👌❤️
Howdy Mr. Chitwood,
Came back for a second viewun.
You make haulin look like anybody can do it!!!!! Some of the full time truckers "puff up a bit" in the tellin.
I sure do like this content, don't be afraid too show us what a average day consist of for Mr. Clinton. Cheers from Canada !
Thanks Clinbt you show your world most of us don't know about. Be safe and looking for the next adventure!
Love the video, Officer Hoover would be proud of the way you over chain and check your weight.
Your technical explanations of loads and loading science are interesting. Nothing beats learning from a Pro ! Thank you
Always enjoy the auctions and seeing what you scored. Keep it coming. Thank you
Glad to see the extra chains, after 25 years of heavy haul and 3 yrs trying to teach the right way to do it I was really disappointed with the know it all attitude of the ones that make it difficult for the good drivers who took the time to learn state and federal laws and guidelines, thanks.
The ones you hate are the ones that use no tie downs and they think their the smart ones.
Like your commentaries. The company I retired from had those same kind of stickers on them about taking care of the equipment and youe job.
That Peterbilt purrs like a kitten. Didn’t struggle one bit with that scraper ad buckets on her back.
I like the variety of this channel, interesting stuff. Worked road construction in Chicago subs for 10 years. That was in the 80s .

Greatly appreciated
That is why when I used to work as a heavy equipment mechanic I had a big key ring full of equipment key's because operators always took the keys.
You do a fine, fine job picking up that equipment! Very impressive. Best wishes.

You my man are worth a mighty bunch of nickels! Nice equipment! A hard worker also! That is why you have lots of nickels!
hauled flatbed and float for 44 years hauld tractors for john deer for 14 years of it love what you do , jerry in newbrunswick canada.
Selling equipment before taking possession is a good thing no inspections you need to do all on them ,but does not give your guy work
That ole Pete is a man’s truck for sure love um
I put the mud scrapers on backwards once and they put mud on the disc's instead out off!
yes ! definetivly, the info about trucks weigths, limits and so one are very interesting, even I am not in the USA
Love the ride along, good job Clint!
Really enjoyed the footage from the Florida auctions.

We have more coming
You and Ole Captain Kleeman have lots of fun hauling iron. I liked the comments on the chaining and scale info.

Never thought about taping the exhaust up! Good idea thanks
Nothing like a 30 tonner to make the float work, old cat spools up nice.
i heard of it doing a bike wheel, never thought a turbo. I was wondering can a excavator spin all the way around? trying to imagine what in sam hill kind of controls will allow even 180 ?

Thanks for watching
Great video! I’ like the ride along too. A lot of time and work just picking up some good auction buys. lol
Really like the sound of the pipes on that truck so getter done

It great to see what a truck driver has to go through just haul a load. Do you have to have a weight scale ticket for every haul you make, or just the one to let you know what your weight was for that type of backhoe.
Normally just get one when we are overweight
Cool deal nice ride love them cat motors in a big truck
Enjoyed the ride and narration.
I like trucks. I watch the Australian road train's quite a lot. But it's seeing how others do things in the world.
Slow on the hydraulics bringing stick down? Sounded like it was a tad jerky. Always loved Case.
I don't like that pilot at all good place to get your hood tore off. That truck looks like a truck from Iowa. You need to get Dirt Perfect to hook you up with them speed binders
Yes but make sure you have a charging station set up. Doesn’t do any good if With a dead battery and no way to charge it.
I’m hearing that Nashville can’t get enough equipment. That place is booming!
Just noticed there is no head ache rack on the tractor but it’s on the trailer.
I have seen a scraper where the front had a steering axle
Looked like a little truck pulling a big scraper
Absolutely show us what you got your knowledge and expertise are very helpful thank you for sharing
Thx for the experience...your gonna have to gently tease Dirt Perfect with that scraper...I think he could use one buddy !
G'day Clint. That was good I now know why my dog liked to stick his head out the window.

Awesome bringing us along
Really enjoyed the video just hoping you got the key out of the first one so you can start the second one.
The big bucket is like me missing a tooth. Lol
😁
Never had any idea how much was required when moving equipment. How much experience you need❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your hard time working. If can do more it is nice.
Ohhh yeah BTW I found your channel watching dirt prefect, I've just subscribed about a week or two ago.
Peterbuilt with a Cat motor how could you not like it Keep up the good work
Mack seats
I always liked driving a 627 over the tail when loading
Yep
.... thanks for the ride a long.... enjoyed it ....
Clint do they make wider trailers so that the equipment doesn’t hand over the sides?
They do make overwidth trailers
No big boss man lol! He must know you can handle those big job's LoL!
Yeah like the float work ,, in Aussie ain't seen trailers like that Ron SOUTH AUSTRALIA
That cat app saves a lot of time when it works
Do you have to have the equipment out within a certain time period? I have been looking at excavators at auctions but I live in Maine and it would take some time to arrange transportation.
Yes some are only a few days
Some will give you a couple weeks
Forgot to take your oversize load signs off en route to load up?
I normally leave them in since we haul that stuff all the time
I have a yearly oversized permit in Indiana
@@C_CEQUIPMENT our state fines you for displaying them when not needing them. Good for you
@@ericdaniel7069 nice to know
I do remove them when going outta state if not hauling oversize
I really enjoy your show I like the way you film it you talk explain things it’s great fantastic work
Great stuff always wanted to drive big rig only got as far as school bus
I was curious what you paid for those 330 excavators?
Keep the videos coming. We will watch them. Thanks and Happy New Year!
Thanks
Those tracks on that first track loader seriously need a squirt of WD-40...... LOL
I’m liken the ride along sir. Thank you.👍
That's a good looking Peterbuilt. Love the blue color. Sounds like it has a Cat engine? I own Case equipment. A cx160 b excavator and 850h dozer with a cab and AC. I like em.
