      Sweet! Glad it helped. Other videos didn't help me, and Digitech was non-responsive, so I took matters into my own hands.

    Helpful video here. My Whammy was being really difficult when attempting to open it, so your walkthrough let me know for sure what had to be removed to open it. Thank you!

    Pro tip here from an electrical engineer: unless there’s a reason I don’t understand, I would not spray a populated PCB with DeoxIT. Parts that deal with some sort of mechanical movement like connectors, pots and switches, yes. Spots where you want to clean off rust or specific oxidation, yes. Otherwise, use a small clean paint brush and compressed air to blow away dust and use 99+% isopropyl alcohol to clean off parts and PCBs. DeoxIT does leave a lubricating residue on things, which is perfect for mechanical parts, but I wouldn’t want that all over my PCB. Plus the alcohol is way cheaper than DeoxIT and is used in industry for cleaning off components and PCBs.

      Very much appreciated. I was in a desperate situation and just went for it with the Deoxit. So far so good, but will be more careful if I have to go back in. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

    Thank you very much!
    I got one of these, fancy chrome edition, used. I got the full range of the pot back after spraying it with dioxide, but the heel position was never 0% which caused the guitar "to not be in tune".
    Just took it apart and put it back together, good as new!

      If it happens to you that the expression of the whammy pedal becomes very reduced, or that the octaves are a little out of tune, be careful, your pedal is not giving up the ghost! you just have to recalibrate it.
      For that :
      - disconnect the power
      - reconnect the power supply by pressing the on/off button.
      - normally the LED flashes. Then move the pedal all the way up then all the way down twice.
      - press the on/off button again.
      Normally the expression pedal has rebalanced!

      @@Lolo.13 Thanks for adding this to the comments. If there's any Whammy issue, this is a great thing to try first, and even do again after taking it apart.

    My rotary knob is the only thing I need to clean out. Is it still necessary to take the whole thing apart, or could I just remove the black knob and spray some Deoxit in there?

    • @bentfishrecordings
      @bentfishrecordings  9 місяців тому +1

      @JoshBeavers Unfortunately the Deoxit would not penetrate to the parts that really need the cleaning. But I suppose if you just take the 2 casing pieces apart, you could hit the inner workings from the side and spin the knob to spread the Deoxit around.

    I got whammy 4 and i might have to replace the "potentiometer"..? 🤔 few stupid questions: what is the real name of that part and could i replace it "wrong"? Like 180° way? Thanks for great video and gimme answers? 😊🤘

    • @bentfishrecordings
      @bentfishrecordings  Рік тому +2

      @somniferumshine Not a stupid question. What you're looking for is an "Alpha 16mm Rotary Encoder for Digitech Whammy IV". From the looks of it you can't replace it wrong. I found a video to talk you through it. It's for a Whammy 5 but I when I compared the parts, they look identical to the 4.

    Ever have the problem of the pedal reading the effect full on no matter how you move the expression pedal? And how to fix that?

    • @bentfishrecordings
      @bentfishrecordings  5 місяців тому

      I have not encountered that problem. Do any followers have a suggestion? Mine would be to reset it, and give it a proper cleaning. I never thought mine would be useable again but an electronics clean helped.

    How long should I wait before I plug it in after using the deoxit, anyone know?

    • @bentfishrecordings
      @bentfishrecordings  Місяць тому

      If it's just from cleaning the inputs you could use it immediately. If it's internal, I usually wait until it visually appears dry. The time that it takes to put it back together should be enough.

      If you let go of the foot switch as SOON as you possibly can after the light starts blinking, it should work.

      Dang, sorry to hear that. Would need to know more. How long has it been non-functioning? Might need a second clean. I haven't had any issues with using too much Deoxit. Just might take longer to dry. This version of the Whammy has proved temperamental.
