I sold two nice rifles so I could get a PVS-14 gen-3 and now I can't remember what rifles I sold. Seeing in the dark is so much neater than having a new gun, it's very under rated. I'm hunting down all the supportive items for my NVGs, I just bought a Steiner DBAL D2. Next I need a bump helmet and a 8-10" 300 blackout upper for a new pistol build and then a can.
Is anyone making a "do everything" rifle scope (or mono or binocular, for that matter)? It would be nice to flip a switch to get night vision, then thermal, then day vision, etc.
When was the last time anyone saw a glazier walking across a field in the middle of the night when you were looking through your thermal scope? Exactly, Glass. the new ultimate camo. Set of windscreen wipers for a windy night. Good to go.
The piece of glass would be really obvious to thermal. I have both an Thermal in my opinion is the best for looking for people or animals (if they're there you'll see them. Night vision is better for just moving around but it's really easy to hide from.
The movement would still be easy to detect and even though your thermal signature is obscured by the glass, you would still be transferring heat to the glass by holding it, which would be visible
Renn It cannot see through glass but if someone was holding glass in a field I would see it immediately with my high end thermal scope it would appear as a perfect square gray block in a field because it would have a slight temp difference between the ambient air temp now if I’m scanning really fast I may not notice just depends on the situation.
Damn you bursted my bubble. I had a nice piece of bug out glass I was planning to shield myself with in a open dark bumpy field. Lolololol awesome video. Team thermal here
I recently bought a CAT S60 phone for a kind of new gadget. I don't use the phone anymore, but am keeping it for a tool because of it's ability to see the dogs at night if one takes off. Find's them right away, just a few feet away usually. FLIR is amazing.
Id rather have one defense rifle with night vision or thermal vision capabilities than to have 4 defense rifles with only white lights. It is an unbeatable force multiplier for when things go bump in the night.... 😵😲😂
Hello, I'm looking for a camera that has a long shutter speed to look at mountainsides for temperature differences. Do you know which one would be best? I suppose it does not need to be a really good one, because it does not have a short shutter speed like the pros use. But likely it needs an adjustable shutter speed and every pixel needs uniform sensitivity. It also probably needs a long focal length or range. Would you be able to point me in the right direction, I'm looking for something less than $300?
Are there any thermal or night vision that don't burn through a ton of batteries? Any lithium rechargeable with replaceable packs that last more hours of use? Feel like they all burn through batteries so fast is crazy not to mention expensive. Then rechargeable AA in my experience, which it's been a while, just don't hold up like alkaline. Are there rechargeables that hold up as good as standard batteries these days without going lithium? They can't make a lithium AA or anything because the voltage is double output for a lithium over a AA. Basically you get a AA device it can never be turned lithium really they claim. Anyway, thought I'd ask if there's a resolution for this problem. I've always wanted some night vision and thermal but feel the juice requirements are too excessive for me to afford to feed.
i wanted to know about the longevity of the thermal vs night vision. i understand that night scopes have tubes that burn out. for a $2500 purchase its alot of money. i dont know how long it takes for tubes to burn out and i dont know if thermals have similar things that burn out over time. would like to know more about what makes them work
As far as I heard thermals are all digital. But it is an electronic camera. As long as the electronics doesn’t fail the thermal will keep working just like a digital night vision. Analog night vision has a intensifier tube the more you use it the more it degrades over time. It also can be damaged by bright light.
It is not difficult to walk with thermal if you play with the setting it can actually show you details and texture so that you can walk around without everything looking the same
Does anyone have experience with a weapon mounted pvs-14? I have heard it can be done, but that it is not recommended. I'm curious about the durability of the intensifier tubes and the housing.
Eric Day what you wanna do is mount ur night vision on your helmet and use a tall mount or a riser for your optic. 1.93 and 2.04 inch mounts are designed for this. Or you could just use a half inch or so riser.
I want a scope but i dont need the bells & whistles, to me its K.I.S.S. I want robust & need it to just work, It seems difficult to find such an item b/c everything I find is overly fancy. Give me consistency & keep it simple. To me Thats way more important, than being able to down load a video on to a computer. smh Im talking SHTF here not "good times" can anyone help me?? looking at spending at least $500 Thank You!
Mount a Trijicon A.C.O.G. scope then back it up with a PBS14. The Trijicon acog it in some cases bulletproof. Get one with the fiberoptic feature and it will last forever. Other alternatives are Leopold scopes. They are unbelievably tough. And guaranteed forever. Leopold once replaced a scope for me that was made in 1963.
Wait a minute... sell a RIFLE?! Are you sure you can do that? I mean, I guess in theory... Seriously though, thank you guys. I'm certain I will never need nods, but I still feel like I should have something, but had no idea where to start.
NVG need at least some sort of light whereas FLIR doesn't. If you are using a IR lite, anyone else with NVG can and will see you broadcasting. Then all you need to do is watch it for a few seconds, observe the sweep of the beam and boom baby, instant target acquisition. Aim for the rotation point of the beam. Same as when using a flashlight on your weapon. Don't aim for the light, aim behind it. For the most part, these are still priced out of the 'every man' range. The optimum is a monocular IR and a scope mounted NVG. IR to acquire, NVG to dispatch.
With gen 3 night vision, you're pretty much always going to have enough ambient light outside to run NVGs without supplemental illumination. It's never perfectly dark out. I like to run an IR laser on my weapon with head mounted NVGs. That way you can always have your night vision without having to hold your weapon up and look through the optic.
does night vision emit light that can be detected by humans ? i have IR driveway alarm that goes red when it detects and i can see it and know i am passing an IR detector..............
If you haven't got your answer yet then no, it emits no visible light even with its little ir illuminator light on. now the part you look through can cast light on your face if you dont use the rubber eye cup. Usually that led on sensors is just to let you know it's on and or it could be a cheap/faulty ir led that emits a little visible light... now I'm going to have to go out and look at my driveway light with nightvison in the cold tonight lol
Black IR lights are 'no glow' (940nm, and not visible to the human eye). What you have is probably 'low glow' IR lights that emit at 860nm, faintly visible.. No glow is becoming more and more standard in e.g. wildlife camera's.
I'm no expert but it seems to me that unless your buddy is looking at the target that you referenced from your perspective, the azimuth is going to be different. If he is across from you, you would be off by 180 degrees.
AGREED: This is Not Radio Over Internet, let's get some ROI for my time, where are the Visuals, come on Dudes, did all the Pork mess up your minds? The Tube of you-tube is to watch interesting things, like all the things you both describe. Info=B Visuals=F Try Harder to think of what we want on the other side of the camera, OK? You Can Do It!
1. Isn't it illegal to hunt at night? 2. A picture is worth a thousand words; a thousand words without a picture is totally useless. 3. Why didn't you give us some real world examples of what these technologies actually look like looking through the lens? 4. The entire video was worthless to someone who didn't really know the difference between the two because of this-a wasted 10:51.
@Aegis Off Grid Living In this case, your video should be all inclusive and should not be dependent on one having to look at all your other videos to get a background on everything. If it IS dependent on looking at your other videos, even you should say so at the beginning of your video, then point out which of your videos should be the most helpful. I like the idea of this video, just not the way it was presented.
Save your money ! Buy ammo and training ! You don’t need it, I was a marine in the early 80s and we rarely used night vision. When we did night patrol we would let our eyes adjust to the dark, about a 1/2 hour. You would be surprised at how much you can see at night! One thing these guys aren’t telling you is that when you wear them , you loose your sense’s and situational awareness.. one more thing , you will not win against our military ! You also need military training to use correctly, not being disrespectful but these guys arent pros and I wouldn’t take their advice on night vision!
@Steven … Alan Kay is about as professional as it gets on this subject. He’s a DoD contractor and personally trains our elite troops on a regular basis.
Guys,...this is not radio, stop talking, start showing ......
Weird how they are not showing some video demonstrations
There are many demos on these products..... Just search it up.
please
Guys nice video, but you should show the image of night vision and thermal what is the different.
Have you guys seen “orbs” with your equipment? Thanks
“People equal problems.” Amen.
No other statement PROVES more true...
On my boats, I have dual payload FLIR cameras and I’d take thermal any day on the water. But, it’s nice having both.
I sold two nice rifles so I could get a PVS-14 gen-3 and now I can't remember what rifles I sold. Seeing in the dark is so much neater than having a new gun, it's very under rated. Trust me I own both If I could only have one hands down night vision
^^
Is anyone making a "do everything" rifle scope (or mono or binocular, for that matter)? It would be nice to flip a switch to get night vision, then thermal, then day vision, etc.
I think Predator has that
When was the last time anyone saw a glazier walking across a field in the middle of the night when you were looking through your thermal scope? Exactly, Glass. the new ultimate camo. Set of windscreen wipers for a windy night. Good to go.
Anyone with a Get Home Bag needs a PVS14 in one of it's pockets.
If you have used night vision you know what a game changer it is.
What kind of bag do you keep it in in case an EMP goes off? I couldn't understand in the video
What if I had a piece of glass that was camouflage walking through a field can they see me with either night vision or thermal
The piece of glass would be really obvious to thermal.
I have both an Thermal in my opinion is the best for looking for people or animals (if they're there you'll see them.

Vera 1957 , thermal cannot see through glass.

Renn you mean infra read
not sure if you touched on this (sorry, i did some FF thru the vid), but thermal will work well in daylight as well for subject acquisition.
Damn you bursted my bubble. I had a nice piece of bug out glass I was planning to shield myself with in a open dark bumpy field. Lolololol awesome video. Team thermal here
Old comment but why you go with thermal cause im at a toss up between a reap IR or some Nods.
I recently bought a CAT S60 phone for a kind of new gadget. I don't use the phone anymore, but am keeping it for a tool because of it's ability to see the dogs at night if one takes off. Find's them right away, just a few feet away usually. FLIR is amazing.
Questions:
Is anyone yet selling a mated Thermal/Night Vision device?
Can you couple the FLIR Breach up with a red dot sight, like the PVS14's?
You can do diy dual optics. Gets expensive kinda. Airsoft forums and such will be a help
Id rather have one defense rifle with night vision or thermal vision capabilities than to have 4 defense rifles with only white lights. It is an unbeatable force multiplier for when things go bump in the night.... 😵😲😂
I wonder how disorienting it would be to try to use one of each type of monocular at the same type on a helmet mount
Lol tape them together optic to optic and see what happens while you're at it.
What’s the name of the bag that he use in case there’s a EMP???
Do these devices have rechargeable batteries or do you need to buy new batteries to replace the depleted ones?
How would you keep them from getting too hot in a car?
thank you for all these tips -- gives me some ideas for things i need to address
what if there is radioactive fallout and the air becomes toxic to breathe, will this work with my SCBA

Now Amazon will have a run on Faraday bags
Was playing with my thermal on turkey day it's dark out but could see as if it were day

The military use a fusion of both if I'm not mistaken. If you could only pick one for tactical combat: what would be the pick?
Some units do
It is not difficult to walk with thermal if you play with the setting it can actually show you details and texture so that you can walk around without everything looking the same
Can you give a link to both items? Thank you! Im a survival dispatch insider member.
Guess not smh
Polar bears have a fun time on thermals. I wish I had their insulation. I could go swimming in the cold water.
I just want to know if u can see people through walls with either of them
Nope.
would be nice if you provide video of the two outputs. chatting to describe does not help
Holy shit is this Alen Kay?

Pretty informative but idc about the people part as I'm more interested in using this as a hunting tool

Could you ball park the price of both items?
$8-$10k
That's quite the ball park
That's quite the ball park
Pvs runs about 3k
Pvs runs about 3k
I'd rather go thermo and a torch then light enhancers, ir and white light.

It’s easier to move with NV instead of thermals. IR should be your back up. NV to move and navigate thermal as an extra line of defense.
Modern tubes don’t need as much light as you think, I’m speaking from experience.... also battery life is a huge factor in relation to nv vs. thermal

Huge price difference between thermal and flir nobody talks about that
thermal and flir are the same thing
FLIR means Forward Looking Infra Red, which is thermal sights
Cool- thank you!
👍🏻👍🏻
I have this thing that I call a flashlight that helps me move at night😊

@Aegis Off Grid Living That's because in Texas wild hogs are considered nuisance animals and hunting them is open all year long.

4 minutes of bs before any useful info. out of the remaining 7 minutes; what info was given. Could have been reduced down to 3 minutes.
what about thermal night vision? HHHHHHHMMMMMM (idk if this is a thing)
Or a thing that can switch between them
You look like you just bought that dress-shirt for this video. The folding-creases still show
