I set mine up a little different, so the door actually closes all the way. But the idea with the rubber band works great for me. I do plan on replacing the part altogether ($26.40) at some point. For now though, this is a great solution. Thanks for the idea! =)

Hi had same issue with the detergent lid ,replaced the idea of rubber band wit small Gage Zip ties . when done with wash.. over cut off . next wash put new one on , the coast of ties under 3 dollars for 50,. the ties will make the detergent lid close all the way
had concern about the rubber band would get in to plumbing .
zip ties will not fall in to drain . the police use them for temporary hand cuffs

You can skip the detergent holder altogether. Keep one partition of the cutlery holder empty. Pop a tablet in there. Wash as normal.

Do you have the same dishwasher model as mine? Regardless, I would try amazon. Just type in dishwasher parts and it should come up with the different brand for you. Good luck!
so basically instead of the lid staying open , it now closes at roughly 75-80%...hardly a fix as the lid has to be fully closed so the washer will do its job correctly

I don’t see this working at all. The detergent tray needs to be water tight. That isn’t water tight. Most of the detergent is going to be used up before the main wash cycle even happens. Good try though.
You are completely right Ardie. For me, this worked enough and better than what my other family member was doing which was just filling the detergent slot and closing the dishwasher door. Thanks for your comment!

And you have to unplug and disconnect the dishwasher, then remove and dissemble the door to replace it. An elastic is just fine.
