Absolutely! You can order some aftermarket alarm accessories from 3rd party providers - if you so wish. However the Toyota standard spec alarm system is more than sufficient. Ofcourse the true test would be to leave the vehicle unattended in Joburg CBD for 48 hours...and see if it is still there when you return ;) #LOL #JustKidding

Please put this up against the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport on the trail & let's see if spending the extra R500k for the Toyota Prado is worth it? I just can't see it, overpriced & overrated in my opinion (the only + point for the Prado is fuel capacity)!
@@SA4x4online Thanks for that, much appreciated. It would be interesting to see the Prado, Fortuner & Pajero Sport in the same test environment, with your opinion on whether or not it is actually worth spending the extra +- R500K on a vehicle that really doesn't do too much more than the cheaper models mentioned (in my opinion of course)?
@@Paul-RSA hi Paul! oh yes! we completely agree. in order for a test to be truly comparative - one would need to do exactly the same test, with each product on the same trail. However, the differences in all three of these vehicles will change considerably when you add different makes of rooftop tents, fridges, food supplies and then your wife and kids. The Prado does have many benefits over the Pajero Sport, and vice versa. Predominantly that is your resale value because it is Toyota. However - As you so rightly pointed out that the Pajero is alot more cost effective. It also matters on how you take care and look after your vehicle. At the end of the day we wouldn't remark that one is better than another. moreso - that each of these vehicles can be optimised or modified for your tailored adventure or overlanding. Thanks Keyboard Commando. The 19 inch wheels are needed for better general performance on road. bigger tyres mean more grip. but also not as big as 22 Inch, which could be more costly to replace/service. in essence the 19s are a balance of grip, acceleration, price, and ride harshness for most users on road. Increasing these for off-road uses could be recommended. But..... depending on needs and application. ;)
@@SA4x4online I understand, however the reasoning is poor. Because a 17 inch handles fine enough on the road, and the 19 inch rendors the vehicle having atleast 50 percent less traction in sand as well as less comfort offroad due to not being able to let the pressure down. Poor from toyota to change such a small detail from a otherwise perfect vehicle. The tread length on the 19 inch is absolutely useless in moderate offroad conditions.
@@keyboardcommando9046 Ah, we hear what you're saying, and you do make some interesting observations that would warrant further investigation and testing from our side. Do you have any reading literature that can substantiate the 50% less traction in sand VS the 17 inch? That would be very interesting for us to research. Where are you based?
@@SA4x4online hi yes, if you would like to investigate, I recommend measuring the exact difference in tread length at any given pressure. If I am correct the 17 inch should have a longer tread pattern even with similar pressures to the 19 inch, but especially when letting down pressure. The main concern with the 19 inch is that it's impossible for the 19 inch of a similar tyre diameter to achieve the tread length of that of the 17 inch due to the difference in the tyre profile. I also wouldn't even go bellow 1.8 bar or you risk debeading the tyre of the rim with the 19. It will be useless on the beach. As you asked, if you want to work out the traction difference, then I suggest measuring the tread length of the two tyres. Traction and contact patch surface area is directly correlated so if you measure the two you can work it out as a percentage relative two each other. Let the pressure down on sand then jack the two vehicles up if you want an exact measurement.
I would like to see a proper trail test. Keep the videos coming. TX
Thanks Adriaan, we will get it back for a trail test then.
