    As a black member of the church... I feel the same way. We who have African blood running through our veins and choose to stay in the church regardless of the past, I believe more often than not, we have been blessed with powerful experiences. Not because we are better, but to show that this is the work of God, and nothing, not even the faults of men in our out of the church, will stop it.

    Great comparison that Isiah shared when he compares Peter walking on water... There are many 'waves and winds' that detract us from focusing on the Savior.

    I’m glad that the priesthood ban was lifted and I think I agree with the guest on the show that it was an error by man. I’ll never understand why but what I understand is that currently we are in a good situation.

      Thank you for saying that many of us have had a faith crisis that we have experienced . We need to choose where we want to be. There is so much happiness that we can feel in this church. We need to stay focused on Jesus Christ and keep our covenants if we want to receive the blessings the Lord has promised. Thank you for your testimonies. God bless you and your families.❤🎉❤😊

    I love you guys thank you for your testimony. I’m a white male who grew up in a predominantly black community. The priesthood ban really bothers me but I know the gospel is true so I had to put that awful history aside and let God revel it to me in his time. Blacks need to see each other in the church living the truth.

    Thank you Andrew and Isaiah for sharing your testimonies. I also love how you have appeared on both Saints Unscripted and Ward Radio, so you can reach a wider audience. I am a fan of both channels. Isaiah, is Darius Gray your father? I have been a big fan of his for quite a few years. He is a pioneer in so many ways.

    I’m very happy of your strength in the church. I hope you are familiar with all the gospel topics essays, one of which is about the priesthood and African Americans.
    I hope all members get the chance to review and pray and ponder about these essays, found on the church website. Because the contents of these essays are not taught, spoken of or referenced in my 45 year experience as a faithful member
    Cheers 🍻

    Thanks to Andrew and Isiah for their heartfelt testimonies. Paul Reeves' work on race and the priesthood is something all members of the Church should read - it gave me knowledge I had wanted to know since I was a young man in the Church and also introduced me to the many black Saints whose faith took them through the Gospel prior to 1978 - very humbling to read about their powerful stories.
    At the heart of the mistakes that some of the Lord's servants made between 1852, 1907, and through to 1978 is the fact that the Lord holds free agency to be very sacred. He allows even his servants to exercise their agency even though it may lead to errors and hurting others. That is how sacred agency is. However, the Lord works around our errors and carries his work forward... It's not an excuse to what happened but helps understand it. Nothing can stop the work from progressing.

    Great interview guys! I appreciate that the church has disavowed the reasons for the priesthood ban and that Deseret Book is selling Paul Reeves book which outlines that the ban is not from God. I believe though that we haven’t gone far enough and that this will continue to be a distraction until there is a message from the top that the ban was from men and not from God, and then issue an official apology. This is how repentance works and I think this is what it will take to move on. Thoughts?

    • @elissajones5154
      @elissajones5154 Місяць тому +1

      I agree. It drives me crazy when members use all these lame excuses as to why the ban happened. I wish we could just call it as it is: racism from a former prophet. It’s worse when we beat around the bush.

    • @Commenter2121
      @Commenter2121 Місяць тому

      @@elissajones5154 Definitely, it can be frustrating to witness. This ban never should have happened in the first place, and definitely should not have lasted nearly 130 years. Since it did though, just imagine where the church would be today if we had apologized for the ban and stated that it had not come from God, within a few years of 1978. This issue would be over for most people. It’s the fact that we still blame God for this that keeps this issue alive. It’s time to do the right thing. Have you read Paul Reeves book? It’s a quick read and sold at Deseret Book. Every member should read it, it lays out the history and message that should be coming from our church leaders.

    race and polygamy were eyesores from BY prophesy and doctrine. while it’s good that the church has repented from those teachings, it should make you think more critically about the fallacy of the prophets (false prophets?!) and how the one true church is forced to rebrand and move the doctrine goalposts (is it really true then? or the same as or worse than all the “abominations”)

  • @user-yw2bl6ze9h

    Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 1John4:1 Which gospel are you preaching? Which Jesus Christ do you follow?

    I always think to James and John when they wanted to summon fire from heaven onto the Samaritans. These were followers and apostles of Christ who did not like Samaritans. It was jews vs Samaritans back then. Unfortunately this happens. Even with actual apostles. I love what they said about this being destractions like waves and whirlwinds destracting from Christ.

    I think some historical perspective might help. In the Old Testament only one of the twelve tribes of Israel held the Priesthood. Whatever the actual reason for withholding of Priesthood ordination, oftentimes things are done because of mortal conditions. Considering the horrific ways that people of African descent have been treated by the world in general, perhaps there needed to be a social and spiritual revolution to open hearts and minds to accept and welcome them without bringing more horrors from those who wished harm? I am overjoyed to live in a time when not only are people of all hues and cultures welcomed in public life, but also bring their uniqueness of spirit and culture to the fold of the Savior's church.
