Turning Spinning Tops by Dan Douthart

Dan Douthart uses creation of spinning tops to teach techniques needed for spindle turning. He begins with selecting proper tools and the grinds that would be used for various applications. He follows with discussion about how to prep the components for the tops as well as considerations as to what makes a good spinning top. GWA usually performs this as a demonstration in their booth at The Atlanta Woodworking Show and then gives to tops to the children attending.

At 41:17 a tool is shown that looks like a spiral burr in a handle with a large/long brass ferrule. What is that tool? Is it home-made? The audio doesn't identify it or where it came from. If you would please....
