This interview went almost worryingly smoothly in comparison to most of Thom's interviews. I think he was taken aback that a smiley, bubbly media-type was asking him questions about his songs and their lyrics that he suspected nobody would "get" and yet she would nail (so to speak) what his points were in the songs within a few simple questions. The fact that she clearly fancies him helped a bit too...
This is just a great interview. Unfortunatly the music channel that broadcasted this (VIVA) was bought by MTV. The girl that did the interview (Charlotte Roach) was fired soon after that. Kind of sad. But she wrote a pretty interesting book after that about femenism and sex and a lot of disgusting well discribed scenes. (It's called wetlands).
the modeselector/mainstream-bit is priceless (that "sorry" accompanied by his shabby look in the camera). gonna check out modeselektor by the way. i discovered the great will oldham only because (many years ago, right after ok computer) thom -when a journalist complimented him on his latest lyrics- said that he'd better listen to will oldham if he wanted to hear some TRULY brilliant lyrics. damn right he was. did thom yorke perform with neil young on stage? {and yes, that girl is cute}
