Part 6 of an 8 part interview, shortly after Kid A.
This video was given a good mention in April's edition of Q Magazine. That makes me feel special on the inside.
I really respect Thom for being assertive, and not putting up with the interviewers crap.
Yeah same here. Interviewers can be annoying they shouldn’t ask such personal questions smh
@Meneer Rookworst The interviewer kept asking personal questions after he refused
while i respect this, imagine how the interviewer feels in this situation. its not really the interviewers fault in the end, its the fault of the higher ups/businessmen. being douchey to someone who isnt the problem is just being douchey, not being assertive.
@@hatw_”imagine how the interviewer feels” The interviewer is a grown man.
Thom didn’t want to answer questions about what the band were doing at the time, and he still pushed at it.
@@Christian-97 bro you right i changed my mind since then dont worry
He's a reasonable man, get off, get off, get off his case.
Packt Sardines right?
@@sweetwheatsy shut up before I
@@sweetwheatsy ...yes
Hahahah nice
after years of waiting nothing came
''can you be more specific?'' ''no :3''
More like: :B
Hole & Wood "Neeext question"
H. HAHA I love him
H. Hahaha
Lmao I died with that
As soon as the interviewer says the word 'relationship' Thom's look on his face simply says "oh for fucks sake".
Nope, Thom was not amused...
I see ur Animals pic
why was the interviewer even asking those questions? I have no idea what happened
He probably be cussing people out in the most relaxed and sophisticated way
Strange thing to say but your grammar is fucking terrible. He probably be? Are you black?
his eyes are so beautiful
not only the eyes! he is really beautiful out and inside.
mgmtisyeah kinda freaks me out that his left eye never blinks.
his left eye is paralyzed.
he was born with it closed when he was a baby and had surgery on it to open it, so it's underdeveloped
Thank you
Thom Yorke didn't want to open that door for interviewers. It's completely understandable. The interviewer kept hounding him about the subject so Thom got agitated and reacted. That's not awkward at all.
ImSorryOfficer I don't think the title was implying that Thom himself was being awkward. Just the interview which was indeed very awkward.
"can you be more specific" is not hounding.
He was very patient with the asshole disrespectful interviwer.
TruthSurge he was dumb ,he could already notice Thom didnt want that kind of question.
Its like asking if he ever thought about cheating his wife.
Some personal questions can be painful and any interviewer should respect that!
Mumbo Jumbo De Runter if you never want to be asked you'll never see a reason to answer he should at least give a straight answer and leave it at that
Mumbo Jumbo De Runter if they keep asking then you get pissed
Elliotte Rodriguez He did gave an honest straight answer which was: Yes there were struggles and difficulties and it's their business, no anyone elses. Easiest thing for Thom would've been lying and say that everything is all milk and cookies but the interviewer should have stopped and not take the role of a reporter.
“Things have changed”
Thom-“Yeah”
“In what way?”
Thom-“They’re better now”
😂lol
Where there difficulties in-
Yep.
Can you be more specific?
No.
"no ones business, but my own'' - present tense
publicSTONE mine*
publicSTONE WOW!! I never noticed that! I'll love this comment forever.
Leave Thom Yorke alone, LEAVE HIM ALONE
Hugo Butler he's a reasonable man, get off his chest
The interviewer?? The fuck he is. Why is Thoms personal life matter in an interview about his music
i was speaking about thom!
+Hugo Butler LEAVE HIM ALONE, like he is a defenseless child, you're a dumb fuck hugo butler
Hugo Butler Creep
The fact that the interviewer is trying to bait him into talking shit about his mates shows what a class act Thom is.
This made me gain a shitload of respect for Thom, he states his point and keeps his composure
Interview: "Do you have a problem with these questions?"
Obviously he does, there are multiple sighs pointing to that.He doesn't want to tell the media about this personal life. That's not awkward it's smart.💁
Thom Yorke is a genius.
i like how he stood his ground and still sounded dignified. I would've either acted very timid or started cussing out the interviewer if I were him.
the only awkward guy is the interviewer being stunned silent after thom said "next question"
Interviewer: Were there any difficulties in th-
Thom: Yup 🙂
Interviewer: Can you be more specific?
Thom: No 🙂
Radiohead has been my favorite band since 5th grade..im about to turn 21 now and they still continue to blow my mind with every new song. I hope that their music will live on whenever they decide to stop making it. They have changed my life and I will forever be greatful.
What about now?
@@lukapatarkalashvili3031 youre in your 30s now
to be fair he did try to be nice about it until the interviewer
Good for you Thom, for speaking up, not feeding into the bullshit & for not allowing the interviewer to bully you into business and personal questions 👍👍👍👍👍👍well done.
“Can you be more specific?”
“No. 🗿”
what a hero to just keep calm and not be a jerk about the rest of the band
Thats not awkward it ish is own business
Lol That is so badass at the end when "The National Anthem" starts to come in.
D'awh he tried to be nice about it
I have a TON of respect for Thom being very intentional to NOT answer the questions.
Well done, sir!
his kitten smile :)
his *crazy* kitten smile
I love this guyyy. He is great and expresses his emotions freely. Protects himself instead of giving into pressure from the media. That takes a lot of guts.
i see nothing awkward on thom's side. the questions just were simply too personal.
wow, he's a real hipster for having a smartwatch back then!
Thom is awesome. Love it
Hell yeah it's not anyone's business! A band like it or not is a FAMILY!!! You are pouring raw, honest emotions into something you create with a select few (unless you're manufactured test tube pop). Only true lovers of music would get that.
"Do you have a problem with these kind of questions?"
"Yes."
"Why is that so"
Oh for God's sake, why can't interviewers just apologize and go to the following questions already, it's not a mystery why certain people wouldn't answer such personal questions to anybody.
This interview was conducted after the release of Kid A and the band was in a really bad spot at the time. At this point Thom was very depressed and I think that's where he is coming from during the interview.
i very appreciate that man
he is and radiohead are on of the finest musicians of our time
wow. people need to respect him more.you ask a question, he politely declines to answer it, and you keep pestering him about why he wouldn't answer it?
Maybe the interviewer got a little lost and didn't know what to say, but hey, job's a job, right?
I've been listening to Radiohead for more than 4 years and I just realised I'd never listened to Thom speak before I watched this video.
I can really relate to what Thom is saying about his contribution to the band's writing process. I am pretty good at starting things or providing a launchpad, but I need my compatriots to help flesh it out and bring their own things to it. I actually think that's one of the great things about making music as a team rather than solo. It's beautiful to see what is created when minds work together.
i used to be exactly the same, i couldn't understand what all the fuss was about, but over the last couple of years they have crept into my heart.
keep listening to a wide variety of their songs,it will be worth it in the end!
roses are red
violets are blue
Grozero you are watching
Thom Yorke's akward interview
Can you be more specific?
The house was just flat out bring rude lmao
grose zero its none of your business actually
Next question
The only awkward thing about this interview is that damn camera angle.
That was a simple and dignified No. I respect Thom even more now.
If anything is awkward here then the interviewer who can't respect boundaries.
I like his voice lol, monotone even when pissed off :)
It's not awkward. That's how you're supposed to deal with a-holes, and he was dealing with one.
He was polite as fuck. I'd leave the interview on the second try by the reporter, no mercy, as some of them usually don't have any
Good for him, seriously. He handled this very well. The interviewer is the only awkward one here.
I love how at 1:52 Thom stares directly into the camera. I feel like he's pleading his case to me.
Yep. "Can you be more specific?" No! :)
I'm in love with him.
Will he wear wigs?
Radiohead is a very unique group of individual, and if you are going to interview any of them it seems like it should be a top priority to at least know a little bit about the band so as not to piss them off and drive them into seclusion... again! Thom is a strange genius and he deserves the interviewers respect. This came accross as an interviewer trying to push Thom's buttons to make for better TV ratings. I think Thom is uncompromisingly genuine and noble for sticking up for his bandmates.
Best response ever, nobody's business! Love you Thom
I love how he smiles for real
My nigga Thom 😂😂😂
(Excuse the "n" word I'm a Spanish Radiohead lover)
P.s: the hood owns me
Yo también amo a Radiohead y soy español jajaja
I love how direct he is. Too many people pussyfoot around stuff.
"It's noones business but mine...."
"I remembered why I liked this guy so much.."
You can see and hear him start to get more irritated and annoyed but he still answered calmly.
he's so adorable when he's smiling
Everyone goes threw teenage angst. He just never got over his.
I will NEVER get tired of watching Thom Yorke get pissed off. Everything's such a fucking ordeal for him, it's hilarious.
This man obviously doesn't realise how lucky he is.
Not Thom’s first rodeo
The interviewer should know when to stop and move on
I find it incredible that this guy got the opportunity to interview Thom.... who rarely gives interviews... and then decided to persist with "dirt digging" questions that Thom made clear he didn't want to discuss.
He's damn right to draw boundaries and demand that people respect them.
why can't this interviewer respect him and just move on? honestly
I LOVE how pissed he gets when the interviewer brings up solo work. I think Thom wants Radiohead to be one of the few bands that never comes close to breaking up, and with the music they put out, who could blame him?
i don't think it's awkward,, i respect him for setting boundaries and the interviewer couldn't really come to terms with that he was in the wrong and just needed to move on without questioning it
he's so awkward I love him
I get this. The interviewer would basically be asking if a normal persons marriage is working out, and if he or she is planning to leave their spouse.
I don't really think the questions were unfair, and the interviewer was just doing his job. Nothing unfair about the interviewer's part. And he wasn't really aggressively pushing Thom to answer, it was more of a confused "Why not?" Thom clearly wasn't in a good mood haha
Not to mention, these items were probably addressed and talked about before the camera was even on. A hack would still ask the questions anyways when they know what the response will be.
thom yorke is not being arrogant, just borderline autstic, im that way too so it really hit me how anxious and reactive he became. ive always seen thom as a really "idea oriented" person. i don't think he'd turn the guy's life into a nightmare or anything, he isn't nosy, and this is not a personal fuss, he just, reacted, the way it made him feel, he has very little social filter according to some but that's what's so wonderful about him, he's being himself, really. in interviews .....
i mean yeah its awkward for thom yorke having the interviewer repeatedly ignore him not wanting to talk about it lmao
@wimblewomble21
He deserves his own privacy and that is all that he has requested. He is a brilliant musician. It makes sense that he would want to be known and respected for his musical works and not have his image formed by the media's distorted view of his personal life.
Thom Yorke is a rare breed of celebrity, he is soo frank and honest that it is often perceived as rude and up his own arse... he obviously does music for the love of his creation and not for the accolades and attention so questions like that are not musci so he brushes them off...the guy persisted and he took a tongue lashing...if we were all so frank life would be better
A real artist, meaning someone with integrity, is not your regular media product which is always willing to perform the intended image
1:34 "next question"
Digging the calculator watch. Bring back calculator watches.
I can totally see where Thom is coming from because just because he's a celebrity, that doesn't give anyone the right to pry into his or his band's private affairs. However, I can see why people think he is rude. Both the interviewer and Thom couldn't have handled this much better.
+Jillian Allen Yea. I don't think the interviewer came up with the questions though, cause once he realized he offended Thom he started getting nervous, like, "oh crap i seem like a jerk." I do agree with Thom on the subject that just cause he's popular doesn't mean he is some human newspaper
i guess my search of hearing Yorke answer some deeper more personal questions ends here. good thing this was one of the first few.
lyrics will tell a man's soul. and Thom doesn't seem like one who will mask the reality he knows. lyrics, no matter what you feel when you listen to a song, tell you more about the song than anything else. has anyone ever just read through one of those lyric booklets that come with a cd? how about In Rainbows? anyone?
I've thought about how Thom destroys the interviewer's questions.
I do feel bad for the interviewer, i think he was just trying to do his job in the best way possible, as it's their job to get a well structuted answer.
Thom is a mystery man, though. We can't do anything about it. Privacy is a right as well so they both deserve respect from each other.
"When I'm king you would be first against the wall" is ringing In his mind
The "professional relationship" question was still an infringement upon Thom. These are quite two-dimensional questions, typical of common MTV-style interviewers. It is this very approach used by the interviewer that Thom is upset about.
omg, thoms amazing
When every artist first starts out, they value their privacy.
Thom's just leaving his problems in the past. Not letting any chance for them to be brought up for fear of those internal band issues coming back and even worse.
Maybe that's why Radiohead has been the same 5 members for the past 20+ years.
I have a right to know, cause I buy your shit
You pay for music, not for gossip
You have the right to the music you payed for in the transaction. Beyond that, you don't have the right to anything.
Tranquil Shepard Hey, that's not true! I want his body too! Not fair! :'(
What ever personal differences they had were that, personal. This is the reaction after 30 times being asked the same shit. I understand him.
"next question" - polite way to say fuck off
I love the way thom Yorks eyes move.
Oh, Thom. I love you, man.
I think its fair that he was holding back.... its up to him to do that. He has the right to keep his stuff private, I respect him for that.
LOVE Radiohead, thanks for the upload :)
his eye gets lazier the angrier he gets
Thom Yorke wasn’t the one who made it awkward it was the interviewer asking a question Thom Yorke promptly said he didnt want to answer
Good!
And I get what you're saying, I justify it though by what he was going through at this point in his life. The period after OK Computer was dark for Thom, and the media scene became really negative for him. I think he actually handled this remarkably well, considering the pressure he was under. I'm sure many people would not have been able to remain as calm as he did with strangers prying into their life like that, day after day.
I understand him being upset with those kind of questions in regards to Radiohead as a whole because that is personal. If the interviewer really wanted to know about his solo project (if there is one) he should not of associated it with ill happenings with his group (if there were any). After all that is a bad basis to introduce a solo project if there was one.
