My wife's 2018 Traverse had this happen after exchanging battery in Fob, somehow one of them got unpaired from vehicle while other would still allow lock/unlock/remote start; however, it wouldn't recognize it in vehicle to start. To drive just hold down start/stop button (no brake) for at least 12 seconds. Once you let go you should be able to press brake and start and drive. However, you still may be throwing a deterrent error. The vehicle wants the other fob paired. Make sure fobs both have working batteries. To do this, remove emergency key with both fobs in vehicle, then turn e key counter clockwise 5 times within 10 seconds on driver door (may have to remove cover panel from bottom side of handle). Dash should tell you to add 2nd fob, place unpaired fob into transmitter pocket/ console below mat (or possibly cup holder depending on model). Press start stop, then remove fob and press lock on fob, then hold down start/stop for 12 seconds...no brake on these steps Now both fobs should be paired. After pressing brake start /STOP the vehicle should start and theft deterent removes itself. I unhooked battery for 3 hours and it didn't reset, newer models often times won't allow for this in regards to theft deterent. Plus GM dealers can't just plug in and remove... They'll charge you hundreds to "fix". Took me hours to figure out... Good luck!
So my problem is that the theft deterrent must have a module or something that's going bad. Because I'll drive my car and it will run fine I'll park it and then I'll go to start it and the start button doesn't work. I've tried three different key fobs and it's hit or miss when it wants to start or not. But I almost always get the indicator that says roll down driver side window then passenger side window theft attempt
I did that on my 2015 tahoe ltz and it asked me to roll down and up the drivers side window and then the passenger side window....passenger side window will no longer work now, any suggestions?
I just had 2 new key fobs programmed for my 19 suburban by a local locksmith. He used an Autel scan tool. The theft light came on on the dashboard. The vehicle was not immobilized. The light went off after about 3 or 4 key start cycles.
Do you know how to disable the theft deterrent system altogether? Whenever I leave my dog in the vehicle and lock it with the remote, the alarm goes off if the dog moves around inside the vehicle. Highly annoying! Thanks so much.
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage not sure I understand what you mean. I only have this issue if the dog is in the vehicle and I lock it with the remote. An email tune? Can you explain that. The theft deterrent thing happened on my 2003 suburban. Wondering if this might work. I've read that it could be the ignition switch but I'm trying the easiest/cheapest solutions first. Weird thing is, it was running perfectly fine after replacing o2 sensors and giving it a battery boost. A few hours later learned that the battery died. Replaced it under warranty. Plugged the new battery in and suburban wouldn't start. It was no longer clicking like when the battery was dead. This time, it would crank but not start. So now I'm stuck... I was wondering if it had something to do with the order that the battery terminals were connected. Anyway - thanks for the video, I'll cross my fingers that it works!
It shouldn’t take longer than 5 minutes. Press the horn to discharge any additional power, and if you take off the positive (red) make sure it is the first to go back on and then the negative (black).
