A natural question is if such topological defects shouldn't finally decay into stable configurations as particles, also e.g. in string hadronization assuming 1D structures, often modeled as Abrikosov vortices, decay into particles observed in LHC collisions. There are such Skyrmion approaches, also "liquid crystal particle models" - I wonder what cosmologists think about them?
