A few things: This video was a nightmare to make because my Steam deck actually broke midway through so I'm just happy I was able to salvage this video lol There is a lot less analysis and more so just me experiencing the game in this video. *Also don't forget to subscribe - I would like to join the 100k subs cool kids club* Hope you enjoy and open to feedback to make these videos better :) I'm still learning
Regarding your darkness/emulation issues: I could be wrong, but the (final) output looks like what happens when already high contrast SDR media is converted to HDR. That said, having playing Silent Hill 3 a billion times on both original and emulated hardware, I rather like the results! And issues or no, it's a fantastic vid. Thanks for making it!
You should look up the "Silent Hill circumcision" drama/situation online. There is a dude who swears Silent Hill is a secret message from God delivered to us thru Japanese devs..

I love how in SH2, the famous opening line is "In my restless dreams...I see that town," yet it's the only game out of the trilogy to not start with a dream/nightmare sequence.
Cause James was never awake. In my opinion sh2 takes places in a purgatory built for James after the “ in water incident” it’s backwards because time doesnt matter in this realm.
@@HolyClownFuckarus Well, you're kinda wrong. If we go by semantics, you'd be diminishing the real meaning of a purgatory. Even if you just mean "a place for him to suffer" it's still not the case and it wouldn't even be exclusively his.
Heather Morris really nailed the role of Heather Mason and brought her to life. When the game was released in 2003, she was only 16 years old if I remember correctly. There is something to be said for older actors being able to accurately mimic the vocal range, register, and weight of a teenage voice, but Morris did not have to struggle with any of that, since she was already in the same age category as her character--who is supposed to be 17. This naturally adds authenticity to her portrayal and is the main reason it's so good. The woman voicing Heather Mason in the HD remake of SH3 is Amanda Winn-Lee, who was I believe 39 years old during its 2012 release. IMO she was having a pretty tough time properly imitating Morris, and it was very obvious that the VA behind this version of Heather was not anywhere close to being a teenager. I mean, it oftentimes sounded like direction just used 1 take during her line deliveries and called it good. Nothing against Lee in particular, but she was unconvincing at best.
What makes Silent Hill 3 so special to me is that heathers dialogue is always so real, i always find myself reacting to something and then when i press X on it heather says the same thing and it always makes me laugh, Its horrifying, Its hilarious, Its ridiculous, Its amazing.
Around 12 or 13 years ago when I was reading an article on all the Silent Hill games rated, the author recommended Silent Hill 3 as the best in the series, so I went out and got a copy for the PS2 and tried it out and got thru the game and enjoyed it very much. Very much different in terms of horror side of it vs Resident Evil series. Resident Evil is straight out shoot em up zombies and doing battle, whereas Silent Hill plays with your mind psychologically to get you scared. I also played a similiar game even earlier when Playstation 1 was the thing called "D" which came out 3 or 4 years before the first Silent Hill game and it was a puzzle game with horror elements. Music was just very eerry and creepy. I did like the sound track to this game SH3 where she left the diner and was walking toward the Mall. The sound track was nice and relaxing so at one point I recorded that part and from time to time I loop it to use for reading or just sleeping. I feel like sometimes video game music is very underrepresented. Thanks for sharing this. Brings back memories for me.
@@HarryMcivor I was in the bread shop and I literally said to myself “Its just bread” maybe its because I’m a blunt person but i really do appreciate heathers bluntness as well
Regarding Harry's death, you have to remember that he was not armed to the teeth and loaded with all the items you'd have during the game. He was likely just, as you see him, chilling at home in his armchair, when suddenly a monster with blades-for-hands shows up and cuts him up.
Not only that, but going by the position of his body, I always pictured the creature sneaking up begin Harry and slitting his throat. Plus Harry is 17 years older, not exactly in his prime. Hell he was arguably past his prime in rhe first game.
My favorite part is how Heather slightly breaks the fourth wall by looking back at the camera as if she's asking the player if they know someone would put their hand in a filthy toilet.
Given how many weird places we see Valtiel in, and how often he seems to be stuck somewhere, I can't help imagining him having his own wacky adventure where he just keeps getting trapped in vents and cabinets while trying to follow Heather without being seen.
Now i can't stop imagining Vatiel putting on some of the most elaborate disguises and stealth tricks imaginable, only for all of them to be a complete waste due to the Otherworld warping the colors of said disguises and Heather just rolls her eyes at all of the failed stealth attempts.
One of the saddest bits in hindsight for me has always been that Heather had to see her former self getting murdered. I know that static image in the tv has always been abstract to get around censors, but it’s essentially the moments before the Order kills Cheryl. In hindsight, that always made me sad.
@@rodrigoogaz3860 From what I remember, they couldn’t show the actual murder with her being a child, so they showed that, which was her last moments. Then she died offscreen, getting reunited with Alessa. But yeah. That was the last time Harry saw her alive before they did what they did to her 😕😕
@@theycallmejodamo I didn´t know that! That explains why she´s shaking like that. I never understood those movements, but that makes so much sense. Thank you so much for the info. Poor Cheryl :(
I actually really like the exposition dump with the vocals under it. It recreated the feeling of a conversation with the radio playing, and made things a bit.. idk, sleepy and dreamlike, making it hard to entirely focus on the exposition but in a way that matches for me with the way they’re driving to Silent Hill, which is a dreamlike town, so it gives “crossing the border” kind of energy. And the final line, which is whispered when we fade to black is something like “we were put on this earth to feel joy” which is really heartbreaking considering what Heather had been through recently and as Alessa.
"Happy people can be so cruel. Is it so hard to believe that sympathy can be born out of pain and suffering?" I've always loved that quote from Claudia. Sure she's a lunatic and she's extremely misguided. But it's quite often that empathy is learned through not wanting others to experience pain you personally have. She did endure a childhood of systematic fear and abuse after all. And to put it quite simply, Claudia cooked with that one.
I mean that mf the missionary is a literal ninja. He probably jumped from the ceiling and probably said surprise mother fucker and slits harry’s throat with ease.
@@alexweschler9470 Unless we're to believe that The Missionary killed him then put him in the chair just so Heather would have to wait 5 more seconds to see that he's dead lol
Especially considering that by now, and not being fully aware of Heather's future role for The Order (he knew she is special), Harry had not kept his guard up to the maximum for presumably quite awhile. Moreover, he had probably mistaken the sounds something was making in his home for his daughter returning from her shopping errand, and so he didn't immediately get up from his chair. He was likely quite surprised in the few seconds he was still conscious that a creature from the town of Silent Hill had been able to manifest outside the bounds of that town at all. This and concern for Heather were possibly his last thoughts.
The whole video basically is a plot summary copied and pasted from Wikipedia with small sprinkling of analysis here and there as to not make the laziness overtly brazen.
@@Frazer2 neither does Legend of Dragoon, wild arms, persona 1, chrono trigger, Final fantasy 6-8, guess they arent jrpgs either. (Queue a "they more you know" meme.)
For me, the best horror concept SH3 ran with was the town coming to you. It's part of what makes the game so terrifying for me to play. There is a genuine terror of your entire reality being deconstructed around you, plunging you into a nightmare.
So, on hard mode, when you first disembark the train. The long corridor that leads to the sewer mazes actually starts to slowly corrupt like the mirror room in the hospital. Stay there too long and you die.
To explain the Seal of Metatron, the point of finding the seal is to parallel the first game. In SH1, Alessa created a huge Seal of Metatron to kill herself and the god within her, ending her pain through death. Vincent wants Heather to do the same, encouraging her to use it to get revenge on Claudia, but he doesn't know how Alessa used the seal in SH1, only hearing it from another cultist who also didn't know the full story, so his plan was doomed to fail from the beginning. Beyond the practical reason why it won't work, by this point in the story, Heather has overcome that desire to die that the Memory of Alessa represented, wishing to move past her pain and into the future, which she finds the strength to do so through the love of her father (The Pendant). The Seal represents the cult's traumatic teachings that led to Alessa and Claudia seeking to escape their suffering, being a loop of pain that utimently is self-destructive and is useless to heal. It's only by discarding those past teachings and making new connections (like with Harry and Douglas) can someone begin break that loop. The seal is mainly there to act as a reminder of what Heather once was, finding it in the hospital that morphed into the place that caused her wish for death, discarding it so she can confront the source of her suffering head on and finally begin to heal. As for going to the hospital, the main narrative point of that is to meet Lenoard and not the seal, as he's the indicating action that leads to Claudia's role in this game, helping pararell Alessa more and feeding into the cycle of abuse SH3 explores. The seal is only treated as something of importance for those who wish to exercise power and abuse people, so it's useless to someone like Heather, who just stumbles upon it and never treats it as valuble. The hospital is a confrontation of both Heather and Claudia's trauma and fears, not a trip to recover an object. tl;dr Seal's a trap, power of love pervails!
I always thought it was because in biblical terms, The Seal Of Metatron could only kill holy things and beings, it has no effects on demons and The "god" of Silent Hill is not a god but a demon, everyone just worships "god" blindly just as the pagans (the first order) who first came to the area did before them.
I think another point to add on top to this is that by having the sale of metatron fail, it's supposed to signal to us that Leonard didn't know as much as he thought he did. He was a poor guide for Heather and not as much of a religious guide as he thought. So when Leonard says to stab this crazy bitch, we should have learned our lesson and not listen to what he says. With all of our weapons unavailable to us, the player is supposed to brainstorm. What do we use? Who do we trust? In a mindset like that, the pendant your father gave you really stands out.
I typically fall asleep to these review/video essay style videos, most of the time they're filled with constant talking and not much of the game audio itself is heard, drifiting off asleep to your voice then waking up in a cold sweat after hearing whatever grotesque noises this game makes is a fucking trip at 3 in the morning. 10/10 fucking love this content. Please make more.
For me what makes Silent Hill special is the idea that each character is one and done. We play through their stories and never see them again and that's so much more impactful. Despite cameos and all that, the true tradition is, they don't bring these characters back even if they survive. They are left in their own individual plots, never to be dealt with again. Never has this series ever tried to bring Heather back with a brand new plot or story in Silent Hill and I respect that so much. She did what she needed to do and is now embedded in history. You can only get these people once in this series and you'll appreciate them while they're in the limelight of their time. Over 20 years ago and that nostalgia isn't replaceable til this day.
@@AutumnWildflower95 Trust me I've played all the Silent Hill games, and I thoroughly enjoyed Shattered Memories however, that's why it's "reimagined". The game presents a reimagined narrative rather than a completely new plotline for her is what I'm saying. Aside from that I'm talking more of Team Silent's Heather and not Climax Studio's version her.
@@gainzday2838 not to mention beside Yamaoka music, characters names and tittle it's has nothing common with OG Japanese SH series. It''s not as bad as instalments made by American devs, but still it's not as good as Japanese ones.
I've always wondered what happened to Heather following the events of the game A 17 year old game all alone in the world I like to imagine that Douglas helped her out financially and otherwise In a weird way, they have the potential to be friends considering Heather lost her father, and Douglas mentioned he lost his son years before
The "fetus deletus" joke got me good. BTW, I believe Vincent was partially right on the monsters. Some of them were actual people but since they were wicked, like the cult members and the abusive nurse, they are shown as horrible outside as they are in soul.
I always thought it suggested members of the Order might perceive the monsters in a positive way and so may see them as angelic. I mean, they worship some of them. Idk.
Part of why I love the Vincent line is how gas-lighty it is and can leave whether what he said was "joke" or not up to interpretation, which does a good job putting the player in Heather's shoes. Vincent may not be outright predatory, but he does have eerily similar characteristics like stalking Heather (as shown from the photo back at the apartments) and being an adult who plays mind-games with a traumatized teenager.
I think Harry's death is fine, it's supposed to be unsatisfying and irritating since Heather herself never got to say goodbye. I do agree with the Seal of Metatron through. Maybe they could've made it so the seal is what lets you and Vincent confront Claudia at the church, but it still fails to do anything to Claudia herself? That way it would still play a role and not be a rehash of something that's deliberately unsatisfying.
In my opinion from just watching this video, they probably made the seal useless cause it relies on the power of the cult themselves and the person who had it was delusional just as the cult is. I think they built it up cause the cult believed in it so hard, but just like their god it was false and grotesque filled with blind faith and insanity. I feel it fitting that an item the cult believed to be all powerful was just a lump of steel.
It's interesting that you mention everyone only wants something from Heather, except for Douglass. He was only asked to find her and did cause he was hired. He didn't personally want anything from her at all. It's why he's the only one who stays with her through it all
I mention that towards the end of the video. It’s a interesting shift when you realize Douglas was genuinely trying to find a missing teen not knowing he was unknowingly leading Heather to her abusers
@@Boofcan Although he should have realized that. His own notes include a bit about how a deranged cultist from Silent Hill attacked Harry, who had to kill in self-defense. And by this point, "Silent Hill" should be known as a town that vanished from the map under mysterious circumstances, even if nothing else about what really happened is known to the public. So really, when the girl you're hired to find is living under an alias with her father, who had to kill a crazy cult member from a lost city and then move away under a fake identity to remain safe, you should probably be able to piece together that the people looking for her aren't very nice.
2:13:29 So, I can see you're disappointed by this seemingly being a pointless inclusion, but there's a reason this scenario played out the way it did and was used to demonstrate a point about Silent Hill's rules, though it requires understanding of how its indigenous power works. The town gives you what you give it, reflecting wishes and intentionalities conscious and unconscious; it will produce a god for you as surely as it will a health drink. The Seal of Metatron _entirely on its own_ has very little inherent power, but when backed by faith or properly directed intention, the correct ritual procedure/context, and/or innate psychic powers such as Alessa's, it is absolutely capable of sealing the demon/god, as Silent Hill 1 so plainly demonstrated. Vincent has some idea of how Silent Hill works and how to wield its power, hence being safe in the Otherworld and giving Heather an occultism book on how to potentially wield the the Seal, but just whipping it out without focusing her will through it in a meaningful way won't achieve anything. In the first place, Heather isn't even sure what specifically she's actually trying to accomplish with it. Put in that context, it really is just a piece of junk, but while it may seem like a pointless waste of time to the player, it's a perfectly sensible way to demonstrate the characters succumbing to a mistaken impression of how to properly deal with Silent Hill.
To give credit to Harry’s death if someone is more powerful than you. You need 3 things surprise, violence of action and speed. Those three things will give you advantage over the strongest of foes
I heavily agree with this, since Harry is found in his comfy lounge chair, it’s safe to assume that Claudia and her goons snuck up on him and assassinated him. If Harry was privy to them getting into his home, he probably would have killed them all and ran to meet up with Heather.
Jacob's Ladder has such a big influence on Silent Hill 3. One neat fact I noticed was that Bergen Street, the train stop where Heather lives, is the same name as the train stop in the opening of Jacob's ladder.
Also the creature that appears in the intro shaking its head looks exactly the same as the monster shaking its head on the car that tries to run over Jacob at the alleyway
The voice on the phone was not wrong - Heather is 17 years old. 17 years ago Cheryl was 7 years old, add 17 + 7 and we get 24. Alessa 17 years ago was 14 years old add 17 + 14 and we get 31- the exact age of all parts of Heather
It must also be noted that near the final hallway before going to the sacrificial alter leading to Leonard, there is also a note that says "Happy 1st Birthday". It doesn't spawn into the world until after the player gets the call.
I honestly like the execution on harry's death, since that even if he's killed offscreen, his presence in the game remains really strong at that point forward. You see his diary, his thoughts, his letters, everything and he doesn't just go away. Seeing heather read her fathers thoughts and emotions and reacting to them is really cool
I love that the youtube community never stops making silent hill vids, these games are my comfort games so videos like these give me joy 🤝this one in particular is awsome, thanks for making this.
1:24:02 I´ve seen countless video essays about Silent Hill yet this is the first time I´ve heard Fukuro lady is meant to be Lisa in that part to showcase her destiny. I´m amazed to keep finding ot new information (it makes so much sense) but that´s so sad as well. Poor Lisa 😭
I love this game, easily one of my favorites of all time,Heather is such a brave character fighting against all the horrors of Silent Hill 3. Amazing video, you earned a sub.
Here is what I think the explanation for how creatures look is: Their look is influenced by two things: - The god's influence - we know that all creatures have been affected by the god, so they are "coated" in his influence.. - The observer's standpoint - we see creatures from Heather's standpoint. So, she probably sees everything connected to god as decrepit, rotten and rusted, while those who worship him see that influence as something, for example, angelic. That's why Vincent says "you see them as monsters", since he would have probably seen them at least as something neutral.
i was looking for other videos from boofcan only to realize this is a relatively new channel. this is such a well-made video i'm excited to see more!! i love your silent hill videos among other creators
Always loved and cherished the third SH more than any other entry in the series. I replayed SH3 last year on OG hardware, and I felt like I was thirteen all over again; borderline shitting myself every time the radio static went apeshit. Also, Harry talking about James shaking his shit broke me.
Heather is one of the bravest horror protagonists I've ever seen, on par with Ash Williams (without going full comedy). To see her joking and smirking like that while looking at another horrific abomination is very refreshing for the series. And the problems she has to solve, the questions she needs to answer aren't for the faint of heart. Considering Vincent's gaslighting joke, I don't think monsters being people is a thing. Simply because it would've been more than one throwaway line throughout the series otherwise. It would be too huge to sweep all the evidence under a rug. Besides, turning the whole divine shebang into a manic episode would be a platitude akin to "it was all a dream". Good for a fan theory, cheap for Team Silent.
Oh yeah, one more thing. I think your anger with the Seal of Metatron is misplaced. It never played that big a role in the plot, it wasn't our goal to find it. It was briefly mentioned before it fell into our lap, then turned out to be a dud. That's it. It's a cheeky move, sure, but don't overestimate its importance.
41:53 I'm pretty sure the Shotgun being neatly wrapped up in a present could be a refrence to the Terminator where Arnold also hides a similary his gun in a Box of Roases
I love SH2 but I can never get enough of this game. I always find myself coming back to videos like these and noticing interesting things I hadn't noticed before. Which is my favorite part of Silent Hill as a series in general to be honest. This video was great! I appreciated the nice editing and I had hardly noticed 2 hours had gone by. Subscribing!
Some things I can watch endlessly, and Silent Hill series plots are among them, even though I watched A TON of such videos, they still instantly catch my attention for hours. So, thank you for this one!
"It's all just a joke" More than a lot of horror pieces I can think of, Silent Hill 3 really plays with the boundary of horror and comedy. You commented a lot on the Vincent theories, and that is the most famous "just a joke" moment, but that line repeats itself throughout the game as the town messes with you (most blatantly during the haunted house). Hell it's kind of fitting that the main ending of the game concludes with Heather saying the line herself as she fakes out Douglas. Even if she's won she's still taken in part of Silent Hill, and its sick sense of humor. Except, of course, when the ending isn't a joke and she gets more overtly possessed in the end...
This comment is gold man. You're damn right about it's sick sense of humor. Maybe that's a reflection of Heathers state of mind. Always tethering on the line of both.
50:33 Another wonderful(ly awful) thing about this sound is how realistic it is. So many people I've watched play stop and look around their home or pull off their headphones cause it genuinely sounds like someone stomping around on the floor above you or the roof.
Honestly your complete playthough with meaningful commentary is by FAAAR the best in terms of analysis and walkthrough of this (and in fact any) game I've watched on UA-cam. It's like if I want nostalgia and want to go back to a game, this gives me an almost scene to scene of the game, plus some analysis. Please do more content this is really good work!
I always had the theory that Heather and Alessa merge after the carousal. Like reintegrating a traumatic part of your past. I don't think she tries to fool Claudia, she identifies as Alessa and her thirst for revenge is challenged by the feelings she has for her "sister". Just not for long.
Except Alyssa doesn't have any positive feelings for anyone in Silent Hill except maybe Lisa. She was bullied, she was tortured, she was burned alive, she deliberately cast out the good half of her soul and lived as a miserable, hateful husk. I can accept that Claudia existed in the Order but the idea that Alyssa ever WANTED any of this directly contradicts the first game. Either Team Silent forgot, or this was meant to show how delusional Claudia was.
@@Boofcan When I saw your video on Gears of War Judgement, you convinced me to sub in the first few minutes. Love your content, keep up the great work!
I really enjoyed watching both the SH1 and SH3 videos you made! I saw you replied to a comment with "The 2nd game I'm struggling to figure out how I can bring something new that other videos haven't said, but I will let you know", and whilst I have seen others like you mentioned, I (and presumably others) would still want to see it in your style. Your humor, the research you do for the lore, editing, etc, I think would make it a worth while watch. Not to mention, your potential SH2 video could be the first one that someone else sees. Food for thought, anyway... Keep up the great work!
My best explanation of Valtiel is this. In the mystical theology of the Order, he represents the patriarchal guiding force driving the sacrificial motherly force that is Alessa/Heather. Valtiel is not quite the father. More like the Holy Spirit. He drives forth the process of the Mother rebirthing God by fueling the incubating demon with violence and pain. The force that is Valtiel and his emanations cause the suffering and torment of the mother, who is consumed by nihilism and evil to nourish and eventually birth God back into the earth to usher in paradise. In our case God is a woman, her Jesus is also the Virgin Mary, and the Holy Spirit is a demonic butcher angel. This is why he is seen turning wheels and dragging Heather away on death screens. SH is sick bro. Heather, Valtiel, and the God are a dark trinity and it needs all its pieces.
Fun Fact: The "Beam Saber" is not a reference to Star Wars because you can't even say "Lightsaber" without paying George Lucas and/or Disney for the use of the Word. Instead, the Saber is a references to the Space Sheriff,a branch of the Metal Hero Series of Toei. Heather use the Saber in the same way as it's use in that material.
The third Silent Hill has had the absolute most effect on me, and literally changed the way that I look at the franchise, both retroactively and for any game that will ever come out after, with just one line. "They look like _monsters_ to you?" I distinctly remember the cold dread I felt hearing that line for the first time, my mind immediately flashing back to the child-sized monsters in the first game, in the school, and it didn't matter that he laughed it off immediately right after. To this day, whenever I see a SH monster, I wonder if it's actually a human.
I mean... they are. Monstrous dogs near dog houses. Monstrous kids in the school. Monstrous nurses in the hospital. They're victims of the town and Alessa's rage. They're all suffering.
It’s amazing how good silent hill 2 and 3 still look, just a timeless art style. Love these videos, they are like a walkthrough and retrospective in one and they are awesome. Keep up the great work my guy
I love the fact that you really went In depth with this game. I've never personally played a silent hill game and was always afraid of it since childhood. I'm glad someone like you can explain the whole story and give us people some clarity!

I watched this whole video yesterday and mainly put it on as background noise, because I thought I knew everything about this story. You really pointed out some details and plot points I've never caught in my 21 years of playing this masterpiece! Heather succumbing to the rage and hate during the final confrontation with Claudia was one of the things I never realized. It's definitely not a bad game and has several points of brilliance, but it's also a deeply flawed one. Still, better be flawed but unique than good but generic
I think SH4 is mediocre, mostly because the gameplay feels a lot worse without the precision of tank controls and how most of the worlds are meh, which you then have to run again. The only good parts are the music ofc and the room itself is pretty cool
@@Boofcan It's worth playing as it is one of the more interesting Silent Hill games that does a lot of things right and a few things wrong. It's....worth talking about for sure.

51:44 Actually there are always stealth mechanics in majority of Silent Hill games, it was so significant a mechanic Keiichiro Toyama even talk about this in a video introducing the first SH game. If you play most of the SH games (for me it's 1,3,4) on hard in your first play through you got to use stealth to sneak past a lot of enemies (in SH4 you can only sneak past male dogs though). Especially in SH3 since they added sound sensitive only but very annoying enemies like slurper and Missionary.
57:08 That’s why you need the silencer, with silencer on pistol they will never dash you down or grab your leg. Melee probably(?) also works but don’t get too close and don’t run.
@@AerisBell SH2 tight apartment complex corridors and dark rooms on hard difficulty was genuinely scary for me cuz I was one hit away from a game over and barely survived encounters. Hard mode should be on by default tbh.

Its like im listening to people talk while I have music playing on my noise cancelling headphones lmaooo
I like to think Vincent is fully aware of Heather's ability to manifest and create a Hell for herself, as Claudia can do so. So, when it comes to his "joke", whether or not it's true is always debatable, but the goal of him saying that is planting a seed of self-destruction in Heather's head. He would prefer it if both Heather and Claudia would stop existing, after all. It definitely remains the most fucked line in the series but I try not to dwell on it because it's more about how Heather herself interprets the line. Hence the secret bad girl points for killing semen soldiers and the like which could make her interpret human beings like Douglas as more monsters manifesting. What's a human or monster at this point?
That line at the end where he wishes they would both die. I wonder what his plan for Heather would have been if he didn't die to Claudia. I theorize that if the seal worked. It would have destroyed Claudia & Heather in the process. The book in the Chapel states "It will bring results regardless of whether the target is good or evil; its strength, therefore, places a very high burden on the caster. "
@@Boofcan best case scenario? if God isn't born, She probably becomes too incapacitated for her to be in Vincent's way and he gets to continue the grift. I believe him when he says he doesn't want God to be born; Vincent wants things to be comfy for him, and God is too "unpredictable" to be controlled. The Seal is... The oddest part of the equation. Dahlia does mislead Harry in regards to the Seal (she calls it the Seal of Samuel: God of Death), but it's actually being used by Alessa throughout SH1, judging by Dahlia's dialogue. However, we never see what happens when the ritual is complete. Given the commitment it takes, it likely destroys the evil influence on Silent Hill entirely, but that may include Cheryl and Alessa, too. The Occult Book specifies that it takes an incredible toll on the caster. Probably Death as well (as you stated). Its role in sh3 is a bit like sh1, because the same thing happened. Metatron is being used. Fails. Use the next best thing: Aglaophotis (Red liquid). Funny how that works out.
I played SH2 and SH3 back to back, way back when, and SH2 was a breeze. However, I had to pump myself up every time I pressed play on SH3. That game scares the shit out of me. SH2 is peak dread, SH3 is peak terror.
SH2 is dreamlike and melancholy with some parts that give me dread. SH3 i found self having to take breaks. Like it's a battle getting from area to area.
Absolutely love your content, these long form video essays are absolutely phenemonal and take so much hard work and effort. Truly some of best content on youtube
The edits and funny humour has me absolutely hooked to this video, and some information that I never really noticed before as well, new sub for you!! By any chance will you be covering Resident Evil: Outbreak Files games and ok i know your edits will be funnier here, Operation: Raccoon City. I know the latter aint canon but I would love to see your thoughts on these three (3) games!! 💪😎💕
This channel is one of my happiest discoveries this year, I've watched all of your videos and I must say... YOU KICK ASS! As a Brazilian English teacher, I keep learning new expressions and words whilst watching well-made content of my favourite game franchises (I've been a fan of Fallout and Silent Hill for more than 10 years now) Keep up the good work!
You are so funny. You make horror games tolerable. Otherwise, I'd be too scared to watch this, even tho I love silent hill. Thank you for making heavy content hilarious and entertaining. You would be my favorite person to watch scary movies with too. 10/10
That means a lot!! There will definitely be more! One of the best things about 2021 was during the summer with a group of my old friends we use to just binge horror movies, but we couldn’t help but find all the goofy and silliness of them. Like The Taking of Deborah Logan. I for the life of me can’t stop laughing at the TV flying off the wall and hitting the patient in the face or Deborah trying to eat that child in one bite. I love a good serious analysis but very few creators are doing goofy horror videos in a tasteful way.
@@Boofcan Hahah it definitely makes it much less scary when you can find humor in the horror! I used to go to opening nights of Paranormal Activity in the theaters as a pre-teen and sit in the front row, the theaters were packed full of kids screaming and crying and laughing together. It made the movies such a great memory for me, while normally I would be too scared to watch alone. Bye Bye Man is another unintentionally hilarious horror movie. You are an incredbile narrator and SO funny! You should def consider doing goofy horror videos in a tasteful way ✨
I remember those late winter break nights playing SH3 when I was 13. Horror games never had an affect on my so it was oddly cozy to play that game. Easily top 10 games of all time imo.
You bringing up the characterization of Heather is so good. There is so much written text about Heather you get a really good sense of who she is and what kind of character she is. It’s amazing
i respect the effort you've put into this video. Playing the entire game in itself was already super long. Cant imagine making a video on the entire thing to.
A few things: This video was a nightmare to make because my Steam deck actually broke midway through so I'm just happy I was able to salvage this video lol
There is a lot less analysis and more so just me experiencing the game in this video.

Hope you enjoy and open to feedback to make these videos better :) I'm still learning
what happend to a steam deck?
Oh no what happened? My only pc is a steam deck and I use it everyday. I don’t stream or edit video though but otherwise it’s on most of the time.

Restless dream youtube got some nice playthroughs.... uhh... yea just wanted to say that 😂

Even if you just mean "a place for him to suffer" it's still not the case and it wouldn't even be exclusively his.
given that james imagined the letter we are hearing, arguably it did start with a dream sequence
Hearing Heather crying and calling out for her dad is heartbreaking for me. Her voice actress did such a good job.
Heathers VA absolutely crushed it in this! So talented
Which is exactly why the remaster was terrible. I don't particularly care too much if some fog is gone but the new voice acting is awful
her VA was AMAZING! I love everything about Heather and her VA is easily one of the best in the series if not the best.
Her best role was voicing Konoko from Bungie's Oni game. Nowadays she's mentally ill and supports the smear campaign against Vic Mignogna.
What makes Silent Hill 3 so special to me is that heathers dialogue is always so real, i always find myself reacting to something and then when i press X on it heather says the same thing and it always makes me laugh, Its horrifying, Its hilarious, Its ridiculous, Its amazing.

it’s bread 🥖

"damn i sure do love family guy"
fuck ass monster appears
"damn i sure do love having 4 limbs and living life"

"damn"
Not only that, but going by the position of his body, I always pictured the creature sneaking up begin Harry and slitting his throat. Plus Harry is 17 years older, not exactly in his prime. Hell he was arguably past his prime in rhe first game.
Also it was 17 years ago, damn, man hasn’t had to fight for his life in over a decade.
He was probably fast asleep on the chair when he got got.

My favorite part is how Heather slightly breaks the fourth wall by looking back at the camera as if she's asking the player if they know someone would put their hand in a filthy toilet.
Slightly?
No shit, idiot.
Given how many weird places we see Valtiel in, and how often he seems to be stuck somewhere, I can't help imagining him having his own wacky adventure where he just keeps getting trapped in vents and cabinets while trying to follow Heather without being seen.
Valtiel spin-off game when???
Would pay to see this.
Now i can't stop imagining Vatiel putting on some of the most elaborate disguises and stealth tricks imaginable, only for all of them to be a complete waste due to the Otherworld warping the colors of said disguises and Heather just rolls her eyes at all of the failed stealth attempts.
I love your comment, thanks for the laugh 😂

One of the saddest bits in hindsight for me has always been that Heather had to see her former self getting murdered. I know that static image in the tv has always been abstract to get around censors, but it’s essentially the moments before the Order kills Cheryl.
In hindsight, that always made me sad.
Can you imagine watching yourself die? That in itself needs therapy, let alone what it did to Heather.
Wait I thought that was just when she was kidnapped, not while she was being murdered 🥲
@@rodrigoogaz3860 From what I remember, they couldn’t show the actual murder with her being a child, so they showed that, which was her last moments. Then she died offscreen, getting reunited with Alessa.

Is it so hard to believe that sympathy can be born out of pain and suffering?"
I've always loved that quote from Claudia. Sure she's a lunatic and she's extremely misguided. But it's quite often that empathy is learned through not wanting others to experience pain you personally have. She did endure a childhood of systematic fear and abuse after all. And to put it quite simply, Claudia cooked with that one.
"this is what killed Harry Mason?"
my guy, it's been 17 years. He's not training in the depts of hell slaying demons everyday
Also he doesn't necessarily live with a rifle in his hand at all times. If he got caught by surprise, that's it.
I mean that mf the missionary is a literal ninja. He probably jumped from the ceiling and probably said surprise mother fucker and slits harry’s throat with ease.
@@Mantosastoright, I thought it was pretty obvious Harry got kind of ambushed/executed

For me, the best horror concept SH3 ran with was the town coming to you. It's part of what makes the game so terrifying for me to play. There is a genuine terror of your entire reality being deconstructed around you, plunging you into a nightmare.
This is really hammered home at the end of the Borley mansion when he says we can come to you
So, on hard mode, when you first disembark the train. The long corridor that leads to the sewer mazes actually starts to slowly corrupt like the mirror room in the hospital.

This is genius
I haven't played this game for over 19 years and I never realized that😅
Damn, that's savage
Great explanation
I think another point to add on top to this is that by having the sale of metatron fail, it's supposed to signal to us that Leonard didn't know as much as he thought he did. He was a poor guide for Heather and not as much of a religious guide as he thought. So when Leonard says to stab this crazy bitch, we should have learned our lesson and not listen to what he says.
With all of our weapons unavailable to us, the player is supposed to brainstorm. What do we use? Who do we trust? In a mindset like that, the pendant your father gave you really stands out.
@@natkatmac I think you mean Vincent, since Leonard is Claudia's father.
@@joshuareesor1756 yes you're correct

10/10 fucking love this content. Please make more.
"Our favorite Discord moderator Vincent" followed by him saying "You make me sound like some unwated pest!" Has me rolling.
Well you can't forget Shattered Memories - Harry and Heather are both in that game with a reimagining of their stories
@@AutumnWildflower95 Trust me I've played all the Silent Hill games, and I thoroughly enjoyed Shattered Memories however, that's why it's "reimagined". The game presents a reimagined narrative rather than a completely new plotline for her is what I'm saying. I've always wondered what happened to Heather following the events of the game
A 17 year old game all alone in the world
I like to imagine that Douglas helped her out financially and otherwise
In a weird way, they have the potential to be friends considering Heather lost her father, and Douglas mentioned he lost his son years before
The "fetus deletus" joke got me good. BTW, I believe Vincent was partially right on the monsters. Some of them were actual people but since they were wicked, like the cult members and the abusive nurse, they are shown as horrible outside as they are in soul.
I’m leaning that I agree with Vincent a bit. Seems too much of an outburst for it to be a complete lie
It depends entirely on the character you playing, not that
I mean, Lisa herself is proof that the monsters were once people. She changes into one right before our eyes
I agree with this as well. Having Harry die like that gives you a similar feeling to how Heather feels, it's like a gut punch, it feels unfair.
This is true
I heavily agree with this, since Harry is found in his comfy lounge chair, it’s safe to assume that Claudia and her goons snuck up on him and assassinated him. If Harry was privy to them getting into his home, he probably would have killed them all and ran to meet up with Heather.
He also was getting old i think he was at least in his fifties

Jacob's Ladder has such a big influence on Silent Hill 3. One neat fact I noticed was that Bergen Street, the train stop where Heather lives, is the same name as the train stop in the opening of Jacob's ladder.
Interesting, thanks!
This is ture!
Also the creature that appears in the intro shaking its head looks exactly the same as the monster shaking its head on the car that tries to run over Jacob at the alleyway
One crazy thing I recently learned is that the wheelchair shot is not actually inspired by Session 9, according to Masahiro Ito

It doesn't spawn into the world until after the player gets the call.
you're a month too late, I already mentioned this
I honestly like the execution on harry's death, since that even if he's killed offscreen, his presence in the game remains really strong at that point forward. You see his diary, his thoughts, his letters, everything and he doesn't just go away. Seeing heather read her fathers thoughts and emotions and reacting to them is really cool

Amazing video,you earned a sub.
Couldn't agree more! Heather is really what makes Silent Hill 3 so charming.
Here is what I think the explanation for how creatures look is:
Their look is influenced by two things:
- The god's influence - we know that all creatures have been affected by the god, so they are "coated" in his influence..
Yeah because He sees them as Humans

Always loved and cherished the third SH more than any other entry in the series. I replayed SH3 last year on OG hardware, and I felt like I was thirteen all over again; borderline shitting myself every time the radio static went apeshit.
Also, Harry talking about James shaking his shit broke me.
Dude I love that I get to spill my unhinged brainrot into these videos.
SH3 is your favorite of the series too, huh? Nice. It's mine too.

"It's all just a joke"
More than a lot of horror pieces I can think of, Silent Hill 3 really plays with the boundary of horror and comedy.

YOU MAY NOT BE PREGNANT BUT YOU STILL DELIVERED
That is to thematically relevant to silent hill 3
AYO THATS GOOD 💀

And yet, God didn't make it
The quality of your content is insane, I really look forward to new videos from you. Great mix of humour and interesting commentary!
Dude too kind man. I hope you're doing well this morning!
@@Boofcan When I saw your video on Gears of War Judgement, you convinced me to sub in the first few minutes. Love your content, keep up the great work!
You just appeared in my recommended. 1 minute in, and I already love your editing style! Can’t wait to see more!
There will be more I promise!!
That was an amazing explanation!
Which I'm sure wasn't the least bit inspired by Star Wars.
OMG I JUST saw your video about SH1 and know you upload one about SH3? What a timing! Love your channel dude.
THANK YOU!! I hope you enjoy it!
I'm still on that "pressure him to deliver on New Vegas DLC video" mission that he hinted at the end of his last one! 😆
Playing this twenty years ago on a old boob tube at night was why I never woke up on time for middle school.
The third Silent Hill has had the absolute most effect on me, and literally changed the way that I look at the franchise, both retroactively and for any game that will ever come out after, with just one line.
"They look like _monsters_ to you?"
I distinctly remember the cold dread I felt hearing that line for the first time, my mind immediately flashing back to the child-sized monsters in the first game, in the school, and it didn't matter that he laughed it off immediately right after.
Bro, your editing is next level. I can't imagine how much time you spent on it yet it comes off so casually / effortlessly done. I hope the $ from the videos is worth it cuz it really should.
0:05 me trying to run up the stairs in the dark but i trip
I watched this whole video yesterday and mainly put it on as background noise, because I thought I knew everything about this story. You really pointed out some details and plot points I've never caught in my 21 years of playing this masterpiece! Heather succumbing to the rage and hate during the final confrontation with Claudia was one of the things I never realized. Looks like you were playing version with the correct aspect ratio, because in the HD version you can clearly see Harry's face 1:07:17, which was meant to be covered by the black bars in the original. Thanks, great work!
Thank you man! I’m glad you were able to find some enjoyment and pick up on new small details :)
So glad to see this video growing and growing on Patreon and finally having it come out on UA-cam! So excited to see more
Working on New Vegas DLCs now!! Dude thanks for supporting the channel. I’m going to keep pushing to make the uploads better!
I put shadow of the colossus as your favorite game at the end 🤘
I've played SH3 at least 3 times and I never knew you could talk to Douglas again in the amusement park! That's a very secret cutscene!
I really did feel bad for the old man. He didn't have to get himself involved with all of this. He was just trying to find a missing teenager.
The sense of nostalgia and melancholy i get from all things related to my childhood is so intrnse. I loved being a kid
I feel you bro, same for me
Aye been waiting on this coming out! Thanks for using my art!
You're talented man! Thank you for letting use the pixel art :)
1:02:52 I think the insane cancers are meant to embody how Alessa saw herself (a cancer that won’t stay dead) and not Heather’s old smoking habit
perhaps a bit of both
I hope to see more content from you man. I love listening while I take chats at work. Not only are you out here talking about my favorite games, but you have an appealing charm. It's inspiring
That means a lot! There will definitely be more throughout the year! :)
Playing the new SHRemake and got on a nostalgia watching binge and have to say you did a great job with this. You had me at " we may be gods baby momma but we still got to get out this mall" lol well played
Awesome video bro. You shouldn't stop making these. Btw, the shotgun in the gift wrap is a reference to Terminator 2
Appreciate that man! I didn’t even put the two and two together with Terminator. That’s sick
If you haven't already you should try silent hill 4 as well alot of people say only the first 3 are good but i think silent hill 4 is amazing as well it's so under rated and under appreciated
It's on my to-play list. I've started it but haven't finished yet. Walter seems very interesting
The story beats and the concept of the room itself(avoiding spoilers) are very compelling but the gameplay is definitely bad
Your video is as awesome as my favourite SH channel, TotallyPointlessTV.
Good pacing/explanation , great and entertaining personality/voice throughout the video that I didnt noticed it's 2 hours and I want more.
Love that guys channel!! One of the inspirations for wanting to start this channel
@@Boofcan Makes sense that you covered the games he skipped.
The best thing from Silent Hill 3 is the uncanny dialogues with upbeat background music
33:41 Peggy, that's the recipe for mustard gas!
Also played this game recently emulated on my steam deck, and as emaculate as it is the one gripe I have is it seems like the mixing on the audio can be a bit dodgy sometimes in cutscenes 😭 like the voice audio is too quiet while the bgm is hella loud. Its like im listening to people talk while I have music playing on my noise cancelling headphones lmaooo
Real! I had to tweak the audio quite a bit lol. The default settings ain't it
lol hi Edward
How do you emulate? Is it hard?
I've subbed. Your type of content creation is perfect! Maybe you could cover the underrated Silent Hill 4 next?
SH4 is on my to finish list. I’ll definitely look into making one eventually
The editing quality, solid jokes, enjoyable voice... and im only 11 minutes in. Looking forward to seeing more stuff from you. I think youll go big.
the secret ending needs the old Simpsons Krusty the clown "what the hell was that" clip XD
Please do an analysis on SH4 next, you would absolutely nail it!
It's on my to-do list this year!!
Dude that's too kind. Thank you !
💪😎💕
Probably not but I genuinely have been looking at making a Resident Evil 5 video lol
@@Boofcan I will be hyped all the same!! 😍😍

I’ve watched this vid 8 times I’m not even joking you did such a good job! I’m so excited for the next one
just started the video but im so glad you mentioned signalis :D its underrated and deserves more attention imo
It's such a gem. Would love to talk more about it eventually
This channel is one of my happiest discoveries this year, I've watched all of your videos and I must say... YOU KICK ASS!
As a Brazilian English teacher, I keep learning new expressions and words whilst watching well-made content of my favourite game franchises (I've been a fan of Fallout and Silent Hill for more than 10 years now)
Keep up the good work!
That's freaking awesome man! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos !
I just discovered your content and fell in love with it! These sick days wont pass so bad afterall, keep it up!
Thanks man!! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Hope you make a speedy recovery. I was sick last week myself
@@Boofcan Appreciate it ❤
Imo SH1 and SH4 are scarier, but that hospital is super hellish
I think SH4 will definitely get its own video this year 🤘 it does some things really well
You are so funny.
Thank you for showing the elevator scene, I’ve ALWAYS wondered wtf I was looking at and thought it was weird that everyone kinda ignores it
You bringing up the characterization of Heather is so good. There is so much written text about Heather you get a really good sense of who she is and what kind of character she is. It’s amazing
Thank you boofcan!!!!! Always look forward to a new video!
thank you!!! I hope you enjoy! This one is a little rough around the edges but it was still fun to make
Can't believe I legit watched the SH1 video like 2 days ago and then this bomb of a video comes out right after, love the long form content man.
That means a lot!! This video was a nightmare to make but I'm glad it's finally done.
