    I think it was his poor health that was the final nail. He was clearly frustrated with how things were going anyway but with his health, I think he realised he needed to go. Since he came back it felt like he was trying to get out the door but didn't know how to, culminating in his rant as he just lost it.

    Always great to hear the thoughts of a neutral. Say it how it is without the bias coming through from the clubs fans.
    Agree with you, longevity from the new manager who can engineer a team who can actually enjoy playing football, because this season it is clear the Spurs players haven't had much fun.
    If the Spurs board can get the next appointment correct as stated above, then the fans will be entertained and happier.
    Exciting times!

    Biggest criticism of him is that the whole 'he's saying it how it is' is ignoring the fact that he only did that because he wanted his severance package. He wanted to resign, but he wanted the payout, and he didn't care who he burned to get it. And yeah there's a lot of truth in what he says, but I wouldn't want him anywhere near my club

    • @MyObessiveDirector

      Basically this he gave up on a job where he got the backing (contrary to what people think we've spent £150 million+ on his signings) for him to mold the actual team culture to his liking

  • @ChrisMeerkat
    @ChrisMeerkat Рік тому +3

    He didn't say it how it is cos he didn't attribute any blame to himself. He knew Spurs' budget when he arrived and refused to adapt or develope. Not entirely his fault cos he was never the right man for Spurs. Also, he had Romero, Kulu, Bentencour, Lenglet, Perisic and Richarlison added to a squad already containing Kane, Son and Lloris.... The least he could do was adapt to the strengths of the squad. Instead he demanded players to fit his inflexible tactics and spat his dummy out at the worst possible moment. If being 'elite' means being an overpriced, inflexible, big-head, then Levy maybe should be more realistic this time and go for somebody less 'elite' and more down to earth.

  • @paulcasey4282
    @paulcasey4282 Рік тому +65

    I actually don’t think he’s done a bad job overall.
    Last season he got them top 4 whilst overturning a 9 point gap to Arsenal and he came in when they were 8th/9th.
    This season he had their best ever start to a premier league season and best start to a league season since 1963/64.
    I think they suffered from missing Bentancur as their results with him are very good.
    I also think they needed to give him time to bring in a proper Keeper, Skirinar like he wanted and another window.
    At the end of the day, he’s still in fourth.
    I actually think the reason why Spurs fans dislike him so much is because Arsenal are top playing amazing football. Even after their best ever Prem start they weren’t happy. The excuse of the stale football isn’t valid either because they knew he would play this football when he came in and they were ecstatic then. The only real change is Arsenal being top playing amazing football.

      Yeah, was an odd decision. I never felt that mourinho deserved that trophy. He had one relatively difficult game on the way to the final, and even had a bye (by?) in 1 round due to covid. Also although the team started playing fairly nice football for Jose, after they lost to west ham he changed to a really boring, negative approach. We'll never know what would have happened in the final, but that City team were good and Mason's team did fairly well against them, I'm not sure that Jose's would have done any better.

    Also wrt Poch one of the biggest issues with his tenure with the club is the fact that Poch is so notoriously picky with transfers that it along with Levy's attempts to get the best bargain prior to bring Paratici in kinda handicapped our transfer windows when we needed to be making those moves in the transfer windows to take that final step.

    I think hiring Nagelsmann would fall into the same category as Conte and Mourinho in terms of a big name who might think they are above the Spurs job. It would be stupid for Tottenham to go for someone like that again. Poch was up and coming and was Southampton manager when he came in and they need to bring in someone of that ilk I think. In terms of hiring Poch again? Not sure how that would go. I think you make good points James about the power he will have which is needed when you're a manager building a project (obv example is Arteta :) ).

    • @misters6749

      I’d say Naglesmann would be a good idea moving forward simply because of the way he plays.
      With Leipzig and Hoffenheim he was all about attacking.

    Slightly torn on whether to bring back Poch. I feel like that could end in tears as well, particularly if Spurs don't back him in the manner he desires and it becomes deja vu. Nagelsmann may well feel that he is beyond the Spurs job, and given how unfairly he left Bayern (and that they are continuing to pay his salary after he was sacked until the end of his contract), I can see him more likely taking time away and biding his time until a more suitable job arises. The hierarchy at Tottenham is an utter joke, Danny Rose pointed it out in that documentary when he said players would go complain to Daniel Levy whenever Mou shouted at them. Bunch of cry-baby pre-madonnas. Add to that the fact that they spent money on players Conte clearly did not want shows how much of a sham this club is.
    "Waaaaaa, we want good football. Waaaaa, we want trophies. Waaaaa we want to beat Arsenal".

    I think perhaps many Spurs fans were naive in expecting his football to not be this negative, however as a Spurs fan myself I have nothing but respect for him post-tenure. Whilst his comments were unprofessional, they were absolutely necessary and I love that he has called out the hierarchy and our lazy players.
    Daniel Levy, and ENIC are the bigger problem at Spurs but so many fans cannot see past it being the manager's fault. I think arguably the divide in our fan base is the largest I've seen in a while now. Until we make changes at board and ownership level, it feels as if whatever manager comes in, nothing will drastically improve. Levy only cares about top 4 for the income, he does not care about the club. Way too much of a narcissist that cannot admit to owning his mistakes.
    I'm numb to Tottenham at the moment. I love Poch as much as the next Spurs fan, but I can't see how he is the right option given he's returning to the club with many of the same players, and likely not enough backing from the board once again. Way too many Spurs fans stuck on this promise of nostalgia. Nagelsman as an opportunity is exciting, but it feels like we'll be here this time next year too.
