Thank you for sharing this! I think you sharing your journey shows that you’re continuously striving to improve. And I think a lot of people probably find these videos helpful! Excited for you man.
Thanks Kyle! It's definitely not a straightforward journey, I'll say that. I have a lot of doubts and worries along the way, but also optimism thrown in there too. I guess that comes with the territory haha
I appreciate your transparency! I'm a recent graduate of IT and I got a First Class Honours. I have been job searching for the past 5 months and today I felt so defeated due to constant rejections. You gave valuable advice as I keep being told by those who are not within IT that I should do freelance and I personally would prefer to have a secure income with an existing company. I will follow your footsteps by focusing on improving my designs and still be on the path of job searching. Good luck with your journey also!
I have since deviated from the advice I gave in this video. The most important thing I learned in the past few months is to ask myself "what do I WANT to do" and not "what SHOULD I do." Let that be your guiding star, and you will feel a lot better about what direction you're going in :)
Thank you for your honesty and transparency on your journey. Your story completely resonates with me, and I can see where Mizko was coming from. That would be a tough pill to swallow for sure, but I'm glad his advice helped you realize what you truly want. Best of luck on your job hunt!
Working with Product Managers as an in-house UX Designer does give some valuable and necessary collaboration experience. You learn how to approach and handle pushback. Also, working more closely with your users is very helpful.
That's so cool, you got to talk him! Honestly, I received similar advice well it was slightly different. I already some freelance experience as a graphic designer. So I understand what its like to work with people already in a creative field. Personally, I think the only difference is the company, prepare yourself for long ass boring meetings in the field you will join several meetings sometimes they aren't even about you. They are a waste of time lols. The process is also way slower cause of larger scale projects. Freelance can be a mix of both since you can possibly get a long-term company you work with them or a small project. I wouldn't scrap freelance 100% I mean you can even apply to those jobs too. My first gigs were all just jobs I applied too. So if you see those applications why not apply too? I never done cold messaging it probably works too but takes longer to get started. I just applied to freelance jobs on LinkedIn instead. I would keep an eye out for both applications.
Thank you so much Jansley, We are in the same boat and we'll Bloom soon. I am an Automobile engineer, professional Music producer, DJ, Composer, Keyboardist, etc. I switched into UX because automobile sector got boomed after C-19 (I was getting sales job) and music industry is not stable for me for a long term period because I am not sure if it'll bring enough food to the table and so on reasons. I have joined your discord server, we'll talk there more.
You're welcome! Honestly I feel like my project management system isn't super well defined at the moment, but when it is, I'd be happy to make a video about it :)

Thanks for the comment! I don't plan on scrapping freelance 100%, I've just put more focus on jobs, and freelance is on the backburner. :)
@@jansleyreal Yeah I know! But I'm excited to hear about your journey with interviewing and getting a position. Good luck you got this!
Thanks for sharing this video. I found it very helpful. Wish you the best in this new journey.
Thank you so much! I've since changed my mind about this ironically (or maybe not ironically haha)
