So basically the iridized is sprayed on and dichroic is burned on? Am i understanding that right?

Actually between the iridized , semitransparent , and mirror transparencies one can choose only a couple options come up for frit , rods, tiles its only in the sheets that you got another 80 choices. So it seems most of the kiln firing glass is the dichronic , opaque , or transparent categories... so if wondering if this is just random or there is a chemistry reason for why frit , rods, and tiles don't come in this form very often.

I am attempting to make a irridized glass coaster using coe 90 glass. I use irridized glass for the bottom piece, face down, and then have a irridized strip going down the middle on the top layer(two layers). However, i have been having a hard time not burning off the irridized coating on the top piece. I have changed the time and heat, used kiln paper covers, etc and have still not perfected the results with the coating often burning off and leaving me with black opaque glass on the top layer. I have seen other artists perfect this and make great coasters so it can be done. What am i missing here?

great explanation and even a glimpse into how they make it with a vacuum chamber. Curious notice frit only comes in dichronic , opaque , and transparent ...Of off the search www.delphiglass.com/page/main_glass . Which makes me wonder if frit need special glass and do all frits retain there same color that you look at when you purchases them or does the kiln change the color normally?
