These presets are being run without any real modifications. They can be contained, controlled and sweetened to tastes and the order of the signal path managed much better. This gentleman is a great guitarist and he could make this device really fly with some custom adjustments. I use the MX-5 with a Lyra-8 so have had to devote a lot of time to modifying. It’s a brilliant device for the money, in terms of creative sound exploration.
I’ve owned the Line 6 POD X3, POD HD500X, POD Go, Helix LT, and Helix Floor, and I love my MX5 the most, and that’s purely based on sound. The MX5 is fantastic, and I don’t see a need for IR’s. I have no problem sitting in a mix alongside my other guitarist running Mesa tube amps into a Torpedo Capture. Plus, it’s not a downgraded version of the flagship like Line 6 continually pushes out. PLUS, there’s tails going from preset to preset. And even though there’s less effects, I feel that the quality of each effect is greater than individual effects in the Helix family. Just my two cents. They were a steal $400 US, but even at $500 it’s a great deal.
Bought mine from PMT Newcastle a few weeks ago, assisted by the ever-helpful John. really enjoying the opening salvos with mine. The possibilities seem endless and you can easily lose days just popping down the Headrush rabbit hole. Highly recommended, especially if you're new to this kind of thing. having fun - and that's surely what it's all about?
Anyone who buys this. If you're not very talented at tweaking, do yourself a favor and buy some patches available online. Stock ones are garbage. There are a few free ones floating around.
I completely agree! I'm actually gonna return it and keep the Hot tone ampero 2. I just don't like how overly noisy and fizzy everything sounds. The hot tone has great tones on the preset and patches.
How different does it sound running in the front of a clean valve amp compared to the line out through monitors? I always wonder if all the wizardry in these modern day pedal boards can really be appreciated plugged into standard mono guitar amp? I think, now tell me if i am wrong, that nowadays you'd just run into a house P.A or a set of stereo powered monitors not a stack?
Does anyone know how to use a dual Ampero footswitch pedal with the MX5? I saw some videos with the M-Vave Chocolate, but it had an app for programming. However, my footswitch is basic, and I don't know how to configure it with the MX5.
Call me crazy, but I think I still prefer the Boss GT-1 for a small portable multi-effects box. The Headrush has a nicer interface, but the Boss effects sound more like the originals to me. Plus, the Boss is way less expensive.
The GT-1 sucks in comparison. You have to take into account that he isn’t messing with anything to improve on the always lackluster presets in all of these types of units.
You can run into a PA if it's a powered speaker.......I hear you shouldn't plug into a Cab unless it's Powered as well.....but some people say the Unit has enough power to run some smaller cabs, but I doubt you could plug into a larger cab without some external power source.
@@94SexyStang It puts out a line level signal that runs directly into the mixer (or a powered speaker). From there it can go into a PA, headphones, DAW, etc.,
Here's my take on the MX-5. Don't bother trying to dial in a good tone without Custom IRs. Even then the Helix and PODGo products are way better in the amp tones before it hits the Custom IRs. The only way to get a good tone out of the MX-5 is to use a great Custom IR because the amp tone is not that good. Also, the amp selection is a handful of amps with some slight variations. You get what you pay for and the MX-5 is cheap. Mine got returned and I had high hopes for it since it was based on the Eleven Rack product line.
I don't agree. Yes having some Ir's is always nice no matter what product you choose to use. Headrush is just a lot easier to learn how to use and tweak. the cabs I do wish they came w/ a few more options but you can also download more as well. However, once you learn what cab sounds best with your rig and how to tweak it, there are some that sounds amazing.. most of my rigs don't have IR's in it the signal chain. Just a cab.
Amp and cab sounds are just different EQ curves, use the built in parametric that serves as a global parametric. The amps, when dialed in are so much fuller and more natural to my ears.
Cool, but is it blind accessible? I am 50 years old, I have been playing guitar for 40 years, and I have been blind for30. Touch screens and scrolling through menus suck. Music instrument companies do not consider blind accessibility. Even the big companies, like offender, don’t consider this. I purchased a fender digital modelling amplifier, because its companion iPhone app was accessible for me. Once they updated the app or the amplifier, it is no longer as functional, and it is not a priority for them. I want my money back.
@@AtTheSourceStudios lol, you must think you're so cool and edgy by picking on people with disabilities. I can assure you, if you could not properly use virtually any modeler out there you would also be quite mad, it's understandable.
Guys, I'm a little confused on how I can use this with my amp. Can I use the MX5 as a regular effects pedal and run it into my amp as I normally would or not? Please help.
Yes you can. You can run it in front of your amp as any kind of pedal/pedal board, but also in the effects loop in a 4 cable method so you can choose where the pedals should sit in the chain.
looks awesome.. crappy price.. wife would kick my ass.. thankfully I can do this all with my Spark, to a lesser degree... but I suck at guitar so its good enough for now... love these PMTVUK videos !!!
A much lesser degree. IR loading, Stereo rigs, wet/dry set up, pedal stacking, signal chain options, looping. None of those things can you do on a spark, to my knowledge.
It has a hands-free mode that lets you edit using the expression pedal. It's not as fast (until you get used to doing it) as adjusting by hand, but it works fine. The screen isn't hard to see while standing (I'm 6 feet tall).
The screen on it isn’t far off from helix and the like. And yeah, the hands free mode is pretty cool. But complaining you’ll have to bend over is ridiculous. You’d have to do that with pedals, or virtually any other rig. What a weird troll
Probably should have spent about 20 minutes on a youtube tutorial and learned how to actually use it. I was frustrated w/ my original pedalboard at first, then I found a tutorial no I own three Headrush pedals, the pedalboard, gigboard and the mx5. And they all are amazing. And it's so easy to download Ir's etc onto and tweak to make your own rigs.
@@bloodflower2141 I had the MX5 METAL, back when they called it that, also recently had the the Headrush Core, returned that also after a month, just couldn’t get over the fake and artificial tone it had! I’ve been spoiled by the sound of a true tube amp!

I remember not long ago when touchscreens weren't even a thing in these pedalboards. This is so easy to use, i have the pedalboard but I still use my mx5 the most cause that's where I build most of my rigs cause it's small and can sit on a desk, a chair, even the trays on airplanes. and you can use the second large knob to adjust things instead of sliding w/ the touch
I bought one of these after owning an axefx3 and it rocks. Not trying to compare the two at all but I can say I am happy with its tones.
I've already bought one Dagen. I absolutely love it! As always, great video man. Cheers 🍻 🤘

Are you running the Headrush straight into the cab? Is it powerful enough o push the speakers? Thank you!
