    Hi Geoff, interesting video, thanks. I've just left a more extensive comment on one of your older videos from last year..."Are you a bird photographer or bird artists". Not sure if you get notifications regarding comments on earlier posts.

    I've just inherited one of these from my dad. I'm setting it up today for the first time. The mechanism on my one isn't working so slickly, it's much slower and seems to be straining somewhat. I think this needs further investigation.

      Let's hope you can get it going. There might not be too much wrong with it.Thanks for commenting.I just looked at yiur channel. you would have something in common with my youngest son who works in the film industry.He has worked on a lot of the hollywood movies with various companies in Australia. Animation and lighting and special effects are some of his specilaties.He now teaches in these fields .

      @@pembridgehouse Hey, thanks Geoff.
      After a bit more running the slide change-overs are more successful now, but perhaps not as snappy as your machine there. I've read that there is a motor that runs all the time (for the fan) and a rubberized pulley wheel engages when the slide change action is triggered. I suspect this is the area most likely to have suffered with age. But I think mine is running well-enough for my purposes now.
      I have boxes and boxes of my dad's old slides, and I'm hoping to use this projector to help me explore them and digitise them more rapidly. So I've put my DSLR camera (tethered shooting, with some macro lens tubes) inside the lens barrel of the projector and I am experimenting with different light sources instead of the big hot bulb. Early tests look promising as I can focus on the slides and fill the frame with image.
      I should be able to sit at my computer, advance the slides (with the Rollei remote cable) and from the PC control the stills captures (Using Lightroom in tethered shooting mode). It wont be a 'fully automated' process, but should be more efficient than trying to hand position each slide under the camera on a light box.
      The Rollei projector is a beast, and seems to be a good candidate for this venture. There is lots of room inside to fit my DSLR lens and space-enough to experiment with different light sources / diffusion filtering etc. too.

      @@chrisgavin Hi Chris. That sounds like an impressive workaround or "hack" as they say these days.I would be interested to see some samples after you're done.I have digitised most of my dad's slides and my own and my father in laws with an Epson v700. Now to do Uncle Harry's and the lady across the road gave me a large quantity over a year ago. It is a tedious business if there are a lot. cheers. Geoff

    I am interested in knowing more about slide film, when projected on a clear plain wall with the curtains closed and the lights turned off, what aspect ratio are the photos displayed on the wall when using a slide projector.

    • @pembridgehouse
      @pembridgehouse  2 роки тому +1

      Hi and thanks for your question. The slides are projected in whatever aspect ratio they have been captured and processed. Can be square from 6x6cm slides,rectangular from 6x4.5cm and so on.Projectors don't have provision to crop an image so what you see is what you get.In the 1950's ,60's and 70's a "slide night" was a popular evening's entertainment in homes of keen photographers.The practice can be remembered fondly or as boring when your dad rambled on about every shot. cheers Geoff

      @@pembridgehouse So when you view slide film onto a plain wall with the curtains closed and lights out, can the photos be displayed at 4:3 aspect ratio with slide film and would 35mm full frame and medium format be 4:3

    • @pembridgehouse
      @pembridgehouse  2 роки тому +2

      @@cariza5 I am not sure where you are going with this question.Prior to digital photography slides or transparencies were not thought of as in ratios. The idea of ratios is digital terminology.If you are physically holding a slide of any format, and you measure the length and depth, well whatever that ratio is is what will be depicted on the screen.Medium format film sizes are varied. They can be 6x6 cms,6x4.5, 6x7,6x8. Those measurements are how you work out your ratios.I may have confused you but it might make sense.

    • @sheldonspock5566
      @sheldonspock5566 Рік тому

      @@cariza5 the pictures are displayed in their aspect ratio, the projector lens doesn't change that. So if it's 35mm then it's 3:2, and if it's 6x6 then it's 1:1

      Hi Somari. Most of these have similar operations. You would be able to use a remote control or push separate buttons.Universal slide magazines which are common will fit your machine. I couldn't find a manual either. thanks Geoff
