This album is getting me through a break up. Such a beautiful album. She had her awakening moment in this album. There are some hidden gems in this, bang my box, space boots, freaky, Cyrus skies in my opinion. One of her best album because it is raw asfff
Honestly agreed, I like this album a lot and I think it has a lot of genuinely great instrumentals, Melodie’s and emotional moments despite the crassness (which I don’t even mind). I do think this is one of melons funniest reviews but I do think this album is over hated. A revival of it would be nice.

Weird... I usually agree with Anthony's thoughts and reasonings, if not his ratings. But I actually really enjoyed this album, and the track I hated the most (Dooo It!), is the only one he found tolerable. I guess it's really easy for me to zone out the lyrics and enjoy the spacey, psychedelic production which lasts through a good 90% of the tracks. I'm sure there is better psychedelic pop out there, but since I haven't touched the genre for a better part of a decade, this album was a nice surprise for me.

Going into this album, I was skeptical thinking "What are they trying to do with this?"
After listening, I was wondering that even more. The album is a like a question that just leads to even more questions.

You don't understand the irony within the album, she isn't taking herself seriously... she's talking about identity, personal relationships and our understanding of being and time:
"I see a light coming towards me
Moving slowly, but coming quickly
At the same time, I think it represents
What's going on in my mind"
Talking about our perception of time and our inability to understand the finiteness of our lives at times, whilst also feeling it completely in existential flashes.
Also:
"And I've heard we never truly see ourselves
You gotta leave it up to someone else
To know how beautiful you really are,
We never get to see ourselves
Sleeping peacefully next to the ones that we love
We never see us cry, when someone dies, see us cryin
Someone new was born"
Personal identity and the fact we never truly have the ability to formulate a sense of self because the image we have of ourselves is distorted.. I thought this was a very beautiful sentiment & an important issue in philosophy (the continuity of the self).
And:

Self control is not something I'm working on

Feeling of pure personal autonomy, non-commitance to social norms and mores. Perhaps the only way in which we can truly liberate ourselves is by ignoring social constructs and reacting to the world in a way which feels wholly natural?
BB talk and I Forgive Yiew were actually really touching and relatable if you are a girl in your teens/20s.. Yes the album us masqueraded by a lot of pretence - but this is ironic, and it can be argued that it adds a lot to the meaning of the album. We all try to define ourselves by a certain way of life or group or whatever...and she wants to show that we are embarrassing and vulnerable in our efforts to establish a sense of self; it is part of the human condition. This all contributes to the underlying philosophical theme of metaphysics & personal identity.
I have absolutely loved this album and it has given me a very emotional and thought provoking response, and I hope it can do the same for others. Yes the album can be incongruous and messy sometimes but there are some really beautiful ideas shining through, and considering Cyrus' age she has produced something really phenomenal.
Pretty sad that some balding man in his 40s can't see the merit in the exciting work of a young artist, I hope your review doesn't prohibit others from having the same experience I have had with the album. I really think this album is up there with my favourites like the Wall and Dark Side of the Moon, they're all dealing with the same themes... Pink Floyd just do it better because they were adults when they wrote these albums.
+Emma Maton "why they put the dick in the pussy?" is a really insightful lyric, i think this album is fantastic and that lyric was obviously trying to question peoples need for one night stands and other meaningless sex

The album has lots of thought provoking lyrics, even the seemingly meaningless songs like twinkle song or pablow the blowfish ask fundamental questions about the death and life correlation. Also, I think it's just beautiful to see someone expressing their feelings so raw and unconventionally and like she says herself - "not giving a fuck".
Two of my favourite songs of Dead Petz are "Something About Space Dude" and "Space Boots" which are essentially about unrealistic expectations in relationships and how somehow the person we really love just lives inside our minds - far away from reality like a spaceman. At least that's what I got from it :)

This is such a good review, Ebert levels of sass. The bit about needing to escape, like being in a trash compactor, is such a good analogy for hearing a song you hate.
