Fun fact, the commentator in this match Jeff Blatnik was one of the original UFC commentators starting around UFC 13 or so. He was also an Olympic wrestler himself. He passed away from cancer not long ago.
He passed away like 10 years ago mate
@@amiineem8168 has it been that long? Damn. Time flies bro.
Fun fact, he gave the sport the name MMA.
@@user-yx1qk4sk5t yep he sure did
Ten years ago is only 1999
The clip we've Ben Askren for
Hello?? Hellur?? Dude's name is Funky Ben Askew. Just ask fight announcer Bruce Buffer to verify.
Underrated comment
Put some respect on Askren! This is his legacy not getting sparked by a disney kid
Fortunately people on this channel and who are watching this video already know that. God willing they stay out of this community.

They lack the attention span for this sort of sport
MMA has become a main stream thing for the next gen unfortunately
@@consumedbydeceit5942 not even , most people nowadays still only hype up boxing, and forget about all the other combat sports and martial arts

Look at the comments in MMA vids
Bunch of morons just talking shit lol
MMA has become way too mainstream because of all the WWE like antics
Every decision he took is a part of his legacy. He chose a money fight as the reward with a risk of getting a black mark on his legacy. Now that it backfired, you can't just pretend something did not happen.
My son sorta wrestled like a Askren type. He’d reach back put his head on the mat. His rubbery style while wrestling threw the other guy off. My son was very flexible and that threw many wrestlers off. My son wrestled in HS and made it and won a few and lost a few in the State tourney. Fun to watch.
A proud dad. I hope you two have a good relationship still. I’m glad you could be there for him at those moments
Your son might like juijitsu favors wrestlers who are flexible and unorthodox
That two count in the first period was way too fast. And honestly Askren wasn’t even parallel to the ground on the second count. It’s a shame when trigger happy refs give back points too fast
A 2 count in college is literally 1 second. If a guy breaks 45 degrees and rolls through it’s a 2 count
@@timothyjohnson5304 Yeah, they start with 1s just by getting into position lol
@@timothyjohnson5304 nah the 2 count was too fast
What about Pendleton obviously grabbing the edge of the mat and fleeing in the first???? Should have been a penalty point. He was still a step ahead of Ben at this point.
Thank you Jeff Blatnik. I’ve sent this video to my son and asked him to listen to what you’re saying about not keeping your head down because you’re not in a lifting position.
Also the word leverage that my son doesn’t understand.
RIP Jeff and thank you.
If there’s any way to get a Kolat final on here I’d love to watch it!
This^!
Ben is a true master of funk!!
I like both these wrestlers
I think most of Ben's college losses were to Pendleton if I remember correctly. Dude just had his number. Other than Pendleton Ben didn't really lose
One other guy beat him.
Must have been his freshman year, he did not lose junior senior year.
No way this is 2004… this is 1980s camera quality 🤣 Jesus
Makes me realize how much the rules have changed.
Post max askren finals please
I wanna see this ben kid fight in the UFC one day, maybe he could takedown Masvidal or have a boxing match with Jake Paul.
Ben Askren lost to Demian Maia
He went out there, tried, failed but he went out there against the best. You can't possibly imagine what that requires.
Yo the headliner for the video is exactly how Ben was positioned when he took the knee 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for uploading! Can we get a Tommy Rowlands match?
Thanks for the request! Here's his 2004 NCAA title match: ua-cam.com/video/NKjsIkr1gtQ/v-deo.html
@@NCAAChampionships thank you!!!
Good match
PUT SOME DAVE SCHULTZ MATCHES ON HERE
Ben looked as dominated in this match as he did when Burroughs teched him a few years ago at Beat the Streets.
you mean when he was old, had a failing hip, and wrestled one of the best wrestlers in the world at his prime?
It’s sad people know askren for fighting Jake Paul… dudes one of the greatest college wrestlers of all time and his accomplishments speak for themselves. Jake Paul could only dream of the athletic accomplishments Askren has achieved.
Askren not getting smashed in 3 seconds was fun to watch
Now imagine Jake Paul vs Askren in a wrestling match 😁
So askren wrestled Robbie lawler in college lol ?
Just 15 years later he becomes apart of the fastest knockout in ufc history!
Allot of Egg and Hammers making remarks here.
Such a shame that the celebs only want to box. But we can be glad that they know they wouldn't have a chance to beat these legends in a real/mma fight.
It’s because the average person can easily comprehend the idea of punch the other guy in the face. The technique of wrestling and takedowns is too technical and confusing for the average layperson.
I can’t believe ufc traded legendary DEMETRIUS JOHNSON for this clown 😮
Here after watching Askren block Masvidal's knee with his face
If only he could strike.
pendleton just flees
Yeah right!! What match are you watching?? Dude smoked Askren two finals in a row in college. Actually he beat Askren in all their matches in college except for one. Total domination and fleeing👎👎.
Askren obviously a great wrestler and nice enough guy, never impressed by his style or tennis physique.
“Never impressed by his style” why would you comment as if you watch a lot of wrestling lol. You have nothing to draw from for reference 😅
Put some respect on tennis players names. Pro tennis players have a MUCH better physique than Ben asscream has ever had 😂
I have never seen a fight that Ben won?
Dude has only lost 2 fights in his MMA career… was the 2nd wrestler in history to win 2 college wrestlers of the year. One of the most accomplished college wrestlers ever. Jake Paul beat a 40 year old wrestler who literally hopped outta bed fresh outta hip surgery… who cares about that shit. Ben Askren would whoop you and your daddy’s ass at the same time
Faking an injury because Askren had superior cardio.
Sure buddy😂😂😂
How tf was he even in here
