- REPAIRING - A VINTAGE Paperback - I, ROBOT by Isaac ASIMOV - With BOOK Binders GLUE - GREAT Result!
In today's video I repair and tidy up a scarce vintage Digit paperback I bought off eBay recently. The book was held together by Sellotape which had aged and flaked off and the book page block was in many parts. Using a dedicated book binder's glue I was able to piece back the block and get the book looking quite nice.

Cue intro music " gentlemen we can ' rebuild ' ".Tape : 😫 the bane of all readers/ book collectors / repairs . Nice repair tutorial .
Thanks Sylvan!
Jules, great to see you restoring such a classic vintage paperback. I wonder how many were thrown in the bin! They are salvageable and can be restored with patience. These books are not as common as they used to be, especially in nice condition, some not at all. Good job!
Thanks Gary, this one was definitely worth saving. I've been after a copy for ages 🙂
Thank you for the great ideas about preserving vintage paperbacks!
My pleasure, hope it helps
Mr Sheen... the mind boggles! I must take one of my more desecrated books and experiment.
It's really effective 🙂
Love this Jules thanks for sharing - will be updating my book repair space with some new items. Cheers
Excellent news, glad you found it useful👍
Great video, Jules and a fantastic repair - you really brought that book back from the dead. That Glue-It is really amazing, I've used it for a couple of years and it does a wonderful job. Jason.
Look forward to seeing on 'The Repair Shop' soon ;-)
Ha! You never know Dave!🙂
Not sure I'd personally of bothered going to all that trouble, good clean, pages all in place and the bag it. Unlikely I'd read it or open the bag up again. Perhaps if it was to be resold it would be worth the effort otherwise maybe not. Decisions, decisions eh. Nice vid all the same as always.
Thanks, I wanted to test the new glue and I felt this was the perfect candidate. A real rarity in any condition tbh. Worth the effort, I feel.
Nice throwback to how i found your channel! 😊
Ah yes, more of these to come my friend 😉

The classic Digit copy where they managed to spell Asimov's name wrong, hard to find in any condition these days.
It's true, I'm guessing he was a bit cheesed off with the publisher. Definitely a tough one to find. It's taken me about a year of solid searching. So even low grade it was worth repairing.
How do you get the old musty smell out of old paper and books.
It's tricky, if not impossible. Generally it smells because the book has been stored in a damp environment, historically. Not something that can easily be fixed.
