I was really a fan of deuce n domino And you are right about the tag titles During 07 09 the titles were barely featured in PPVs relegated to dark shows or defenses on the weekly shows
Yang was in wcw at the end with the Jung dragons and had a run in wwe in 2004 as Tajiris henchman. After he was released during his run as wang Yang, he visited backstage and Vince asked him where he’d been. When Yang told him he’d fired him, Vince actually resigned him and he came back for another run before being let go again
Deuce & Domino had a short run, but they are one of my all time favorites. They lived that gimmick and it was so much fun! Jimmy Wang Yang was also super fun to watch. Such a shame ...
The reason why that anti-hero face gimmick failed was because as Paul would reveal in an interview "Vince was clueless and not caught up with the current pop culture interest and love for Privateers, and anti-hero/anti-heroine pirates that the first Pirates of the Caribbean film PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl ushered in." Meaning the reason why "Pirate" Paul Burchill didn't get the right booking or writing was because Vince was behind the times and failed to realize the success of the first Pirates of the Caribbean film meant fans would totally support a properly booked anti-hero face who was gimmick was that of a noble, courageous, and kind-hearted pirate.
It was very controversial at the time and def wouldn't fly today. But most people watching weren't making fun of Eugene. Instead, they were rooting for him. I sure was. I loved when he could do all the random finishers.
Original Doink the Clown has to be on here! Matt Bourne played that role to perfection, and of course it ended too soon! They could have done so much with the schizophrenic/bi-polar and sadistic clown who was an expert grappler and technician role!
Matt Bourne's Indy doink was pretty dark in comparison. And his Bourne again character in ecw was awesome too the whole BPD and losing the plot because he'd been forced to play a clown was a nice twist.
Jean-Pierre Lafitte getting buried by the Kliq was his biggest obstacle in WWF, same with Shane "Dean" Douglas. Regarding Chris Candido, somehow I doubt HBK was the only one in the WWF locker room having "Sunny days" at that time.
I feel like Jamie Noble's trailer park gimmick is underated. Dude was was cruserweight champ for most of 2003 and then gone and forgotten before 04 ended. Dudes run was so dominate and so brief that he was never in a WWE video game.
Jimmy Wang Yang's character had SO much potential just thrown down the drain. Could have been in a stable with Cade and Murdoch or Jesse and Festus. And was mid card enough to hold the US title. A large number of WWE fans, if not the majority, are southern kids. This would have been a hit.
I think that KWANG was a very underrated gimmick. That was the first wrestler I remember being excited about as a kid watching back in 1995. A wrestling ninja who spits. What's not to love? He was even a playable character in WWF Raw 32X.
Part of the reason The Mountie was dropped so quickly was that the actual Canadian Mounties did, in fact, get quite upset with the gimmick despite how nice he tried to be in Canada. I believe they actually threatened the WWE with a lawsuit for defamation, hence why the gimmick was changed to a more comedic one with a more slimmed down gear appearance before the Quebecers were introduced. Also, one little known fact about Shane Douglas is that he had a brief run in WWE in early 1991. He was actually a participant in the 1991 Royal Rumble.
In the same vein as Losing Streak Curt Hawkins, I absolutely LOVED Heath "I got kids to feed" Slater. Perfect for the post-pipe bomb era of reality wrestling.
As a Native Texan, I'm here to tell you that guys like Wang Yang are real. Black Red Necks are real too and Black Cowboys are very real. It's true, it's very true.
Jimmy Wang Yang owns a Red Neck Party Bus company in West Chester Ohio. My friends rented it for my birthday and he drove us around Downtown Cincinnati. Super nice guy!!!
Man, I miss Deuce N Domino. You never get a tag team like that, and it's such a shame. I liked the greaser gimmicks. And who would've thought that Dean Douglas would be the precursor to Matt Striker's teacher gimmick too?
Yes it was ditched too early and the character would have to be a world title threat to truly garner the super heel he could have been. He could have been a menace sabotaging people who questioned him and fought him for denouncing his latin race, or something along those lines
In the same vein, Simon Dean was perfect as the guy you tuned in to (hopefully) see get the shit kicked out of him. Even more so once he got teamed with the Gymini.
Kushida's almost been one of mt favorite wrestlers coming out of new japan deep down vince would have had him chasing the 24/7 championship on the main roster
I thought Kushida got that gimmick from when he and Alex Shelly formed The Time Splitters because they split their time between the states and Japan and he rolled with it . Maybe im wrong . Either way Kushida is a great talent ! But so is Jimmy Wang Yang ! Great wrestler ! Silly gimmick but I actually dug it . And im not big on comedic wrestling . But that was a perfect blend if your gonna go that route . I wish he was wrestling now days though .
Jaques Rougeau was awesome. Great tag team with his brother. Great singles run as the Mountie. Great tag team with Pierre. Should be in everyone's boy stable.
Bruce Prichard and Vince's McMahon NxT 2.0 garbage saw Kushida and Ikeman jiro in toilet humor jokes backstage and fancy jacket comedy. NXT in 2021 coming off the pandemic was already down and with HHH suffering a heart attack NXT was dismantled. I'd even say HHH didn't wanted NXT to be 2 hours. This was a WWE higher up move to test it against AEW promotion on Wednesday night wars which resulted in NXT losing to a much larger show in rival company.

I really liked Jimmy Wang Yang. It was fun gimmick and he’s a really good wrestler
I remember Jimmy Wang Yang. He was cool.
He was great in TNA as part of the flying Elvises as well.
He should be a surprise in a Royal Rumble
@@claymathewselevator8121 I agree, but he was a high flyer he might be too old to pull of those moves now 😭 but he was very entertaining back in the day forsure!!
The correct amount of comedic and damn did he really just pull that off wow
"Ruined by the Kliq" has enough material for a full-ass documentary.
Preach
Breezango is also underrated. Comedy aside, they're actually great performers
I was really a fan of deuce n domino
And you are right about the tag titles

Deuce N Domino were fun to watch. Loved there entrance theme
All about coooooooooooooooooool.
"Pirate" Paul Burchill could've been great. A nice midcard act that could have evolved into a more serious role when pushed up the card.
The reason why that anti-hero face gimmick failed was because as Paul would reveal in an interview "Vince was clueless and not caught up with the current pop culture interest and love for Privateers, and anti-hero/anti-heroine pirates that the first Pirates of the Caribbean film PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl ushered in."

Especially in the pg Era where that would have been a hit with children instead of man who wanted to boink his sister
Yeah but they fucked up with the weird angle with his “sister” and being very incest like.
Eugene was seriously underrated, his feud with triple h and kurt angle was great
It was very controversial at the time and def wouldn't fly today. But most people watching weren't making fun of Eugene. Instead, they were rooting for him. I sure was. I loved when he could do all the random finishers.

Evil Doink with green tights was legit scary at that time, especially cuz he can wrestle good as well.

shawn and the kliq are the worse thing about the 90s
(Pirate) Paul Burchill
&
Boogeyman
Both top my "What If" lists
Yes. Boogeyman could have terrorize superstars and have had several creepy angles but instead was made a comedy act.
Jimmy wang Yang and the confederate flag is crazy
Not everyone was so offended and soft back than
A good gimmick was shannon moore prince of punk!
The clique was poison for wrestling
Loving the Jimmy Wang Yang appreciation!
He needs to show up in a Royal Rumble
I feel like Jamie Noble's trailer park gimmick is underated. Dude was was cruserweight champ for most of 2003 and then gone and forgotten before 04 ended. Dudes run was so dominate and so brief that he was never in a WWE video game.
Yoshi Tatsu comes to mind. But really any foreign wrestler pre 2008 was doomed to job
The Kliq certainly were a bunch of troublemakers
Kama = Balrog (Street Fighter II)
That should have worked because a lot kids played the hell outta that game, especially, before Mortal Kombat.
The Skinner gimmick worked for the Liver King too.
I miss Jimmy Wang Yang. Dude was legit one of my favorites. I need to get a ride in his taxi

Savio Vega still uses this gimmick at times in mlw
Dean Douglas and kama careers turned out great
Paul Burchell's pirate gimmick is so enraged that I love it
Your year in review series is so informative and helpful thank you for your content
Paul Burchill pirate gimmick was over! Wish they didn't pull the plug there.
Deuce and Domino could have been so much better had they been used right.
Douglas was one of biggest misses on this list.
Jaques the Mountie seems like such a nice guy in shoot interviews .
Apparently Hogan thought so too. Believe it or not, Hogan threw him a bone at a house show once and did the job for him clean.

Kudshida back to the future gimmick

I can't help but image an angle where the Big Boss Man and the Mountie ended forming a tag team.
I would have called this tag team, the Board Patrol.
Big Bossman was underrated

I love the fact that they didn’t use the typical crazy martial arts Asian tropes with jimmy wang Yang
They gave Stone Cold the persona of a serious version of Jimmy Wang Yang
5:26 He was in WCW prior and was 1 half of the 'Amazing French Canadians.'
Gotta be honest...I think Chavo as Kerwin White could have been something special...like a Repo Man for that generation.
Yes it was ditched too early and the character would have to be a world title threat to truly garner the super heel he could have been. He could have been a menace sabotaging people who questioned him and fought him for denouncing his latin race, or something along those lines

The macho warrior ric hogan.. awesome and hilarious gimmick I just recently seen from I believe Memphis in the 90s
Loved Kama and Jean Pierre Lafite.
So The Mountie was the first wrestler to be a babyface in Canada and a heel in the US and not Bret wow Im blown away
1:48 UFC was in its infancy, mma had been around for years already.
Kushida's almost been one of mt favorite wrestlers coming out of new japan deep down vince would have had him chasing the 24/7 championship on the main roster
Great video 👌🏼 I was a big fan of the Adam Bomb Gimmick in mid 90s WWF 💣
Same! He was like an action figure come to life

Jaques Rougeau was awesome. Great tag team with his brother. Great singles run as the Mountie. Great tag team with Pierre. Should be in everyone's boy stable.

And some of the best entrance themes of all time
@@tims4502 true but some might argue others had better entrances but I did find his theme catchy and fun to listen to
The PCO one almost knocked me out of my chair
Pirate Paul Burchill could have been bigger than life ☠️
I gave Curt Hawkins a 3 match losing streak on my Super-WrestleMania cards. He deserved it
Holy crap I did not realize that was PCO
I liked deuce and domino remembered I was in college back then. And didn’t get to watch wwe much but I did have a crush on cherry
I Like This Awesome Video 📸 Wonderful Job Wrestle With Andy Keep Up The Good Work.
I feel Doink the Clown was also an underrated gimmick. He deserved a title
I think the best thing that happened to Shane Douglas was to do so poorly in WWF that he was fired.
DEVIL'S ADVOCATE SEAN O 'HAIRE
The MOUNTIE was awesome!!!!!!!!
Only disagree with Skinner. That was not a good gimmick nor did it have potential.
One I think was underrated was Bo Dallas Bo-lieve.
Bruce Prichard and Vince's McMahon NxT 2.0 garbage saw Kushida and Ikeman jiro in toilet humor jokes backstage and fancy jacket comedy.

JWYang was elite.
I'm sorry but I could never take Jimmy Wang seriously. Especially as a champion
Anyone else seeing a common theme here... HBK was a prick his whole WWE/F run. He was just someone that was coked up and a huge ego.
