I can only feel the need to release my sorrows and pains. So beautiful. Comforting. Thank you mr Elgar.
I first heard this transcription about 30 years ago. It still holds the same power over me as when I first heard it. Long live Bach and Elgar, two great men.
What is amazing about the second part of the fugue, is that the theme consists of nothing but six accending notes of the minor scale. If most composers were asked to write a fugue on such a theme, they would look at you like you were insane. But Bach! The creator of music's Old Testament. For Bach, it's "stand back!". lol
Génial !!!!
Never thought I would ever like "High Tory" Elgar ..love his Cello Concerto..this just blew me away..up with Resphigi and Busoni ..magnificent, just ..
played this in highschool...I will always love this piece
MONUMENTAL ! This transcription has to be known
I agree strongly!!! Alot of Bach's works and fugues work very well with all kinds of instruments. I've listen to alot of his great works originally written for piano/organ and when they're transcribed to full orchestra, vocals, woodwinds, brass, they breathe new life! This is Bach's genius!
sounds very modern. incredible. like a soundtrack for a drama film
Breath taking. Elgar has like all of us taken inspiration from the master of Baroque. Bach is so adaptable in his music.. Love it.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account?

Thank you so much, you saved my account!
@Cooper Dakota Happy to help :D
Quanto Bach è universale! Pensare che questo brano così moderno è stato composto nel 1700!
Fantastic. A controlled, finesse driven transcription. BTW, that second theme in the fugue, the one consisting of 6 rising notes on the minor scale; that's Bach's homage to the music of the Middle Ages! It's an ancient technique called the "hexachord", and was the basis of the very first hints of polyphony, that would eventually become the towering counterpoint of the Baroque era.
Davvero stupendo per organo ma anche per orchestra!!!! Okokok
the violin player at 2:47 min. is full of emotion
"bacon", he is full of "bacon"...
Needs more Diapason and Mixture V.
totally agree :D :D
Don't forget about Posaune 16". ;)
What about the 64' Diaphone lol
Hello from gerubach
It is a symphony in its own right.
Start at 1:37
wonderful... impressive...
I'm from Montcalm Harmony and we have played this song before. I'm 14 years old this song is a master piece!
Beautiful!!!! Indeed, Bach's piece becomes a thing of glorious beauty when transcribed to the orchestra.... I agree that we should have more transcription of his pieces....
The 2019 proms version has been removed from bbc sounds 😭😭😭
7:27 this is usually why I don't listen to orchestral transcriptions.
Bach + Mussorgsky. Visions of Mickey Mouse.
BWV 1080 & BWV makes one Bow in humility To Gott/God...
look the samambaia!!
Are they London Symphony??
BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Since when was Elgar High Tory. He cared little for empire and suchlike. Some people are so fxxxing ignorant
@sAmfRancIs94 You're absolutely right! People demands more recordings for J.S. Bach orchestral transcriptions, because there is abudant library of those available.
Funny how a professional Organist can play the exact same piece versus an entire symphony orchestra.
I love Elgar's music & his enthusiasm, but with this orchestration the piece has lost the baroque style & the piece has lost "Bach" unfortunately. It's a "crossover". It's too romantic. There are too much opened emotions in this performance. What's this ending from 9:39 and what about this (french) trill at 3:28 ? Bach have to be a mystery.
p.s.: sorry for my english!
Effective but empty. Beginning is good, but conclusion is tasteless. More appropriate could be instrumentation for homogeneous group of instruments (for strings only or for wind instruments only).
This is rather an illustration of how to play Bach is not necessary in any case! this is Wagner with Saint-Saens, but not Bach...
This piece was extremely well performed and Bach is an absolute genius. However, I can stand overly flamboyant conductors. I get there is a bit of a show to put on, but not at the expense of the orchestra. My goodness, on that last note, how many times was he going to wave is arms for a one note hold? There is absolutely no reason to continue counting the beats on the last note. Even if he did want to count the beats, it could have been more timid than 3 strokes that could have ended the piece.
Take a look at the score and see what's actually occurring during that "one note held," because you plainly have no idea what's occurring and why the conductor maintains a pulse throughout.
are you kidding me john
very bad.. complete lack of taste and baroque style..
It is a Romantic transcription, not a straight baroque orchestration.
