Was my GRIII, but it broke in moist conditions. Now considering this X100V, since next smallest set that I own is Canon 1Ds3 with 40mm, so something smaller is definitely needed.
I bought my X100F as a travel camera and loved it. An upgrade to the X100V brought me to appreciate the sharper lens, quicker more positive AF and the gorgeous jpegs straight out of camera. For the form factor, pocket-ability and sheer bang for the bucks for a take it anywhere camera, however, I find it hard to go past my Ricoh GR1 - horses for courses.
Thank you for the perspective on this camera. Though why you apply a crop factor to aperture I don't get. Aperture and light going through a lens doesn't change just because the sensor is smaller. 2.0 is 2.0.
Hello, thanks for you review. Yesterday I purchased a Nisi UV filter for my beloved X100V and I'm still in doubt if it doesn't negatively affect the image quality. Protection of the lens against the dust, water or scratches is the strong reason to use it, for me personally. I noticed some flares using the filter, but only when a strong source of light (sun, street lights in the night) is in the frame. Can you describe please your long term experience using the Nisi filter? Isn't it bothering you with some unwanted flares? Any opinons appreciated, thank you
fantastic long term review., well articulated and well lit video and clear audio. subscribed and looking forward to more cool content. cheers from belgium
Thanks for the review. Fuji X100V seems like it will be my next small camera, since options in with cameras having high X-Sync and weather sealing are quite scarse. GRIII had the sync, but apparently won't keep up with my use.
Nice review and you made some very good pro's and con's. I have a love hate relationship with the X100V and actually went through 2 X100V's thinking there was something wrong with the AF system on it. In short the X100V fell very short in it's AF performance for me and I found it just unreliable even on static subjects. Don't get me wrong I love everything else about the X100V but dishing out $1500 for a subpar AF system with todays camera market just didn't add up for me. In the end I returned the X100V and am now sporting an A7C with a very compact 35mm Zeiss and could not be happier.
A7c is a very intriguing camera for me too, especially now that I also have purchased the new Sigma 35mm f2. But the size of x100v cannot be beaten for me because I routinely carry a small bag for my keys and wallet and AirPods, and x100v is one of the few cameras that fit into all of my bags. Funny how sometimes camera decisions ultimately comes down to small things such as bag size.
Great first review! I’m on my third X100 family camera now, so it’s great to see other people checking them out. I’ve honestly never had an issue with eye detect being inaccurate. It’s definitely not the world’s fastest focusing camera, but the V advances the ball to where it’s fast enough for anything I’m doing with it... and I’m using to just focusing manually if needed. I’ve also never had heat issues with any of them, but I treat them more like film cameras, generally shooting singles or doubles at any one time. That said, I have had battery issues, and the app hasn’t always worked well, and (until the V lens revision) the lens was mediocre at closer focusing distances. The V is definitely the first model I felt was comparable to my Leica and Zeiss glass, so now it’s my daily carry, whereas before it would have just been more of a backup/novelty camera
The autofocus is more than capable. I guess I’m just spoiled by Sony when it comes to that department. Thanks for mentioning battery life too, I regret I didn’t talk about it in video, because V’s battery life is a marked improvement and it’s the first camera I own that I feel comfortable going out without a spare battery.
why do ppl keep complaining about ibis in this camera? If it would have ibis it would become to big (because of integrated lens), heavy and probably expensive. For street you mostly do not need slow shutter speeds because of the blur
GR III is smaller with IBIS so I guess it would be possible. Although I understand that Fujifilm might have had other priorities for this camera. I don’t slow down the shutter much as you said, but ibis really helps when I’m walking and snapping.
@@rickyissak565 I wonder how ibis helps you if you do not slow down your shutter speeds for photos, do you refer to video only? GR III is indeed smaller but also with evf and ovf and a smaller 2.8 lens. so in that respect gr iii has some room for the ibis
@@gerben4875 IBIS in GRIII is amazing feature. It’s just nice to have. Sometimes it helps me shooting in poor lightning conditions when you should slower your shutter
On Ya Mate! You cited the two reasons I am holding of for a 2020 Ricoh GR IV or a Fujifilm X100 VI. No IBIS and the second rate AF kill it for me. Hell, I'm using an old Olympus OMD and it can do both - that is ten years old - but it is a PASM unit.
my x100v tends to get warm after like 5 minutes taking photos with tracking af and short burst shoots. Does this happen to yours? My other Fuji body and x100F never have this issue. I use latest firmware.
The only issue i have with it is the heat thing. Its not a real problem but annoys me evertime if its on for 30 minutes... I m not sure how other Fuji cameras handle this little heat thing and if the XT-30 maybe has the same problem
I rarely leave it on for extended period of time so don’t find it to be an issue. But yes if I’m snapping photos constantly, like shoot a burst every 10 seconds, it would be come uncomfortable to hold.
When you showed the cameras from yesteryear, how did they manage without handgrips lol. Would IBIS make the camera a little bigger I wonder? As for video I don't use it and they can remove it for me (get the cost down). It is a great camera to use, with quality images. Quite funny when you let other photographers have a play with it, their eyes glass over and they keep turning it around and looking at it.
I would never recomment x100v to anyone who intends to use it for video. It has powerful video features, yes. However there's simply better options. X-t4 is a great hybrid camera, but I'm personally not a fan of the fuji lens lineup for video. Maybe look into sony cameras? You can start with APSC bodies with full frame lenses, then upgrade to full frame body further down the road.
@@cj7073 Yes. That’s a big advantage of Sony system. For example you can buy a samyang 18mm lens and use it for vlogging on full frame, than do street photography on apsc body/mode at 28mm equivalent.
Good video, I just wish I saw it five days earlier before I bought UV filter, lens hood with adapter and lens cap that makes camera roughly half centimeter thicker and I bought is especially for size as Panasonic GF1+20mm/f1.7 upgrade. After changing like 5 settings (touch screen AF to area, MF focus peeking, histogram and something) I already like it. I'm keeping Panasonic G80 for zoom lenses, IBIS, video, etc. For me MFT sensor is good enough and this camera complements it perfectly - it's portable, it's likely much better for social events where higher ISO beats IBIS. I was thinking about Panasonic GX9 as well (it's for third of the price).
Used MFT cameras are crazy cheap now, so I guess it is a good time to invest in a G9. I have a GH5 listed on Facebook market at a crazy price and no one is interested….
On a serious note, not really. Ricoh iii is very compellingly priced right now with obvious size advantage. Then there’s the newer Sony a7c with so many tiny 35mm lenses to choose from. X100v isn’t the obvious best choice for people not necessarily confined to the x100 line.

My favorite small package is the EM5 Mark 3 with the small pana/Leica weather resistant 50mm equivalent 1.4. I just wish the 100v had ibis.
Just curious but why do you want ibis with a 23mm lens? I would understand that with a telephoto or telezoom lens, but 23?
