Chris, I'm on the "senior budget" now that I'm retired and have used your videos to due work on my '67 "California" beetle I bought off The Samba last year. Big help was the reupholstering video, watched while I worked. I had two bugs back in the day so remember well their natural state. First car was a 7 y/o 1966 bug. Had an 8 y/o 1970 bug. Love these cars and much appreciate you and your dad's work. Keep up the videos. Would love to visit your shop and turn a wrench with you all but Florida's a long way from you guys! Again, much thanks for you sharing your knowledge.

I just started to watch you. You are terrific. I'm from westchester and bought my '68 in '71. Mine took me all over the country from NY to FL and eventually to SF and back to Rochester. It was my first car and I had it 8 years. It made me a life long VW customer. I have a very special place in my heart for that car. It was blue and I almost never see that color in any of the rebuilds. I now own a '94 Audi S4 that is also a legendary car. There were only 3,000 of those sold in America. I am on the original clutch at 231,000 miles and I owe it all to learning how to drive a manual on that VW. In those days we changed our own oil and did the valves and tuneups ourselves. My Audi is chipped and it has a performance exhaust. It does do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. Just a little different than my '68. keep up the great videos

Chris...thank you for time and effort you put into the content of your channel. You’ve inspired my wife and I to restore her 1966 sunroof beetle and bring it back to it’s best life.😀

The price is ALWAYS going to be subjective regardless of what market is like. Like you pointed out - what needs to be done to the car and what HAS been done already? For example : I got my 1956 oval ragtop for $4k cash. Buuuuut - what have I have to do to it? New rebuilt ragtop, new restored seats, German carpet from WW, rebuilt year matching 56’ 36hp motor, rebuilt swing axle transmission, rebuilt brakes, rebuilt stock beam, had to put her back to stock height, pulled all the old wiring and installed brand new WW wire harness, all new German window seals yes even did the windshield without cracking it! Soooo about $10k-$13k later I’m at near completion and about 2-3 years worth of work so far. If I were to sell it? Prob $20k now. So it’s all in a case by case basis. I lowballed the seller because he wanted $9k for it but I KNEW how much needed to be done to get it proper again. So it’s all in what’s been done and what needs to be done - do YOU wanna be the guy that’s stuck having to fully restore and replace everything and go through the entire car top to bottom? If so, bring on that low selling price!

We bought our '78 Super Convertible last year for $5,300. It's mostly original. The interior is due for a refresh, and the top will need to be replaced soon, but overall it's a nice "10-foot" car with no rust, and decent original paint. I constantly get positive comments about the car where ever I go, and I drive it almost daily (rain, snow, sun). We sold a 2001 Mercury Cougar, which we bought new, and bought this bug because we wanted a fun, reliable, car, which was also inexpensive and easy to maintain. I think I've spent less than $200 over the last year for parts and maintenance, and I'm able to do all the work myself. We are very happy with the car, and plan to keep it for a long time.

    Good info !
Awesome videos - really enjoy the way you teach not just show.
What gets me here in the middle. Kansas/Nebraska/Missouri
There are some cars around that are very high caliber cars. Majority of what is for sale is crazy. Prices from $ 1000 to $ 3000 . Still needing lots of work. Some even missing engine & transaxle .
Then from $ 3500 to $ 5000 - Drive it home. Anything under $ 1000 is junk or parts. Now the people in the VW clubs are more reasonable about the buy & sell.
It's Mr. X that sees a Beetle on Craigslist - then thinks the 1975 hunk of crap his Dad turned into a Baja in 1981 should be worth $ 2500.

There are some bugs in pretty decent shape that can be had for a reasonable amount of money if you spend the time to look around. You definitely don't need to spend $10K+ to find a bug you can drive around in on the weekends!
And congrats again on getting hitched Chris!

I'll bet by January, you could buy a post 1967 Beetle in good condition for less than a grand. Right now here in Central Florida a fair condition beetle in running condition is about $1,000. All the high asking prices are just that. Asking prices.

    • @caduceus33

Tell me more about this. Does it take a lot to get the price to the $1000 level? Or do they just have to sit for a month without selling for the seller to realize their asking prices are unrealistic?

      2. Trump was merely in the right place at the right time when he inherited an upswing economy. If you analyze economic data from the national and global markets, you’ll soon see the patterns of up and down trends economic activity. So like how Trump inherited a ton of money from his family to start his business, he also inherited a strengthening economy which, by the way, is due to downswing and even burst within the next 12-24 months. That’s not politics. That’s math, science, sociology, and history.
      Peace!
