No, if you have good shoes they should not hurt. But you dont have to wear high heels. In Scandinavia, especially Norway and Sweeden you might stand out if you wear high heels any other time than friday/saturday evening or for events. We mostly wear sneakers here.
I enjoy traveling because in this way, I can learn more about different food, cuisines, culture, and of course fashion. I am inspired by American Women every day and actually my style changed because of them. If you know what European Women wear, then you notice that on the streets and get inspired. The choice is yours. You don't need to apply these changes, but it is great to admire it. :)
Could prevent you from getting targeted, but still, dress codes are really different from place to place because of different cultures, climates, city planning etc.
