Devil May Cry Week starts now! Featuring Dante, from the Devil May Cry series!
(This is a pretty easy comparison, but I had to update this, and secondly, I wanted to see and hear how Reuben went from, DMC3, to his 14 year long journey to DMC5, and few other VA's who got to change up their Dante)
(Just like with Resident Evil Week, you'll see characters who appear in the DMC5 get videos, like Vergil, Trish, and Lady.)

I love how Ruben gradually shifted dantes voice as he matured and when it comes to spin offs or fighting games he keeps it at a in between of young and mature. That's how you know someone is serious about their character

Also voice actors get older aswell which means the voice will change.
Thats why it is always a good idea to keep the same actor for the same character over a decade. DMC 1 and 2 Dante sounded ways off given the timeline of the games. In 1 and 2 Dante sounds older then the oldest Dante in DMC5 which is.....weird.
you are right, I started the series with DMC4. When I heard his voice back in DMC3. You can absolutely tell the different.

Yeah but sadly they did a mistake here. In DMC4 Vergil looks and sounds older then in DMC3 which cant be possible because Vergil visited Fortuna before the events of DMC3.
But i guess that stuff happens when you release a series with a timeline in any fucking order you want.
@@HansPeter-iv9ck I am gonna give that a pass since it's still a cool voice to hear, he didn't share as much exposure as much as Dante or Nero and he didn't even have much dialogue anyway.

Reuben also did motion capture for dmc 3 too. He even colored his hair white for that. He is dante.
When I saw that commercial on TV, I thought it was just an awesome CGI. Later I learnt that it was after all, Dante himself.
He also did the mocap for Dante in DMC4 and 5.

Reuben was a stunt double for Power rangers for a long time too
I absolutely love how Rueben changed his voice over the course of the games to AUDIBLY show that he's aging. In 3 he sounded very young, in 4 he sounded pretty mid range, and now in 5 he actually sounds fully mature.
Tbh he sounds like ass in later tittles he shoulda kept the 3 va

I'm an idiot. All these years and I totally thought DMC 3 Dante had a different voice actor from DMC 4 but no, Reuben Langdon just has that great of range. Well... that and a years long gap between 3, 4, and 5.

Yeah, some time after DMC3 his voice actually changed. He commented on it saying that it was weird his voice changed in his late 20s, and at that point he also started to be able to grow facial hair. Odd lol
I did the same thing, but with DMC5. Just now i've discovered that its the same VA.

I really like Drew coombs, since he voiced the original version, but Ruben has voiced Dante for so long he's become the go-to va. Matt is underrated and did a good somber version of him

Love Rub's too though and is very iconic and fits the brighter, anime-esque Dante. 5, his take was mature and loved his realism, especially for the DMC shop scenes. But Drew's take and that original Dante was perfect. Hey, and who sounds cool crying anyway! Liight haha the original Dante was purest you're gonna get to the original vision. Dante there was naturally cool and mysterious!

In my opinion, Tim Phillipps did a good job portraying the Dante that they were going for in DmC. However, Reuben Langdon is the definitive Dante voice and is clearly the best one

Drew honestly sounds perfect for Dante's darker times like in DMC 1, and would have honestly been much better of a voice for 2 and the Anime. Reuben is still the definitive voice for him though, he just does the cocky attitude of Dante far better.
A comparison is pointless. Langdon captures Dante's playfulness and serious undertones the best. He is Dante.

Yep, Devil May Cry: The Animated Series is the very first anime I prefer to watch in english dub more than the original japanese thanks to Reuben Langdon and his awesome acting in DMC3.
Reuben Langdon is easily the best voice for Dante, having voiced the character the most, showing the most emotional range and brings the Most charisma.
It doesn't surprise me how fan girls swoon at his voice.

Cool thing is that Reuben also knows martial arts. He was in a street fighter X tekken video he played ken and the voice actor for Virgil played Ryu. Lol
Kyle Hebert plays Ryu, Vergil is played by Dan Southworth

They never said "Dan played as Ryu in the actual game" they said a video on the game. Jesus. Still. Not trying to start any fight. I suggest checking it out as it's quite enjoyable to see and honestly it shows the acting skill they possess. This wasn't even a super long time ago. Just go to Reuben's channel and it should be there.
Reuben Langdon is Dante, just like how Nolan North is Nathan Drake, Mark Hamill is the Joker and Kevin Conroy is Batman. Some voice actors simply were born to portray a certain role.

My favorite thing is how clearly Dante's aging is with Langdon. Really shows how the character grows over time without losing his identity along the way.

DMC4:SE was the very first mainline DMC game to feature Japanese voice acting. From 1-4 they all had an English cast. Even most Japanese dudes like the English cast better. It sort of like bloodborne in that regard.

Honestly at this point I can't imagine a DMC game where Dante and Vergil aren't voiced by Reuben and Dan. I'm glad that they brought them back for DMC5.
Reuben Langdon they guy that mocaped, did all the stunts and voice work for Dante, Date Masamune, Chris Redfield(mocap only) and Ken Masters. Nothing can replace this person.
No wonder he looks like Chris in DMC4
Note though Date Masamune is not jacked in the 4th installment of Basara. It's a design choice to make him look older than Nero yet retain that handsome features. DMC5 though is a different direction they wanna show the human side of Dante as he ages.

The only reason people don’t give credit to Kaminsky is because they don’t like DMC2, and the only reason they worship Langdon is because everyone loves 3/4/5.
If you look at the voices themselves in a vacuum without considering the games they were in or the lines they had to say, Drew Coombs was definitely the best for an adult dante.

He's most definitely has objectively improved his skill as years went by, but DMC3 Dante's younger voice is still my favorite/preference. Might be nostalgia but idk.
Drew Coombs for me was the best, besides his voice crack he did a solid job. However Reuben Langdon is a perfect replacement, no complaints there.
Yet they both sound similar. So good continuity as well.
Drew could easily be a great voice for Sparda
And the voice crack wasn't really his fault, I mean, they could have done another take but they probably realised that a massive voice crack would shift the focus from the terribleness of that line...

Gotta love that Reuben can do both younger Dante and older Dante’s voice. They sound similar, but young Dante’s got that young crackly voice, and DMC4 and 5’s Dante’s got that manlier umph to it.

I feel like Drew would've gotten better with more practice, but after hearing Reuben grow into Dante, I love him much more.

Reuben forever ..but one scene that moved me a lot before is that of DMC 1 when Dante yells: "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with laight!" You can feel a deep sadness and despair in that interpretation! Drew Coombs looked totally

I think all the actors did great, given how all the games had somewhat different (yet similar) tones.
Somehow MVCI Dante looks more like reboot Dante dressed as OG Dante, than actual Dante.
