Been a while since I've watched some instructional guitar stuff. I really got into the legato thing after watching Rusty Cooley's series with all the modal sequences. The way the pick attack pumps so much low end into the start of each note when alternate picking, especially really fast, has a super aggressive sound which is great in a lot of scenarios, but legato, I feel, has many more applications outside of metal. I love the sound of both. I've been working on getting my pull offs to be rhythmically even lately. That's always been the hardest part for me. Great video!

Yup, agreed both have their place, I’ve struggled with hybrid picking because I hold my pick Thumb/Middle thanks to a very early EVH interview in the ‘70s and so I’ve become very proficient at it
but it’s makes hybrid harder (Thanks Edward! may he RIP)
but “free or notes from nowhere legato” is easy although when I’m working at hybrid and become frustrated I do wind up just alt picking the phrase with ease, but we tend to want to do everything we see so back to the classic
Thumb/Forefinger and cliffs of Dover for me 😂
