I made this short video in memory of one of my best friends Günther Tlotzek. He passed away early in December at the age of 100, just shy of turning 101 this February. He lived such an eventful life that there aren’t enough photos to cover it all. The song playing is „Wildgänse rauschen durch die Nacht“ (wild geese rushing through the night). One day during the war on the eastern front, Günther, along with other officers and NCO‘s, gathered to discuss the attack phase for the following day. He described how the mood was depressing, then suddenly an NCO (a school teacher by profession) began singing a song. This song in particular. It always stuck with him, for as the next day, he would be the last out of 80 men to survive an ambush.
After 5 years in Soviet captivity, coming home to no parents,country, and work, Günther fought through and made a long life for himself. Finally achieving his goal, of reaching 100.
